Also, there was a shit ton of shenanigans going on during the last election. Other countries boycotting our products will absolutely help us. If it costs the 1% money, he will be taken down a notch. The oligarchs are in this for the money after all.
Meanwhile, those of us that most definitely did NOT vote for this are faced with new horrors every day, right here in our own country. It’s just a blast watching our former allies shutting the door and giving the entire population the finger when we are facing a crisis like this. I have to wonder, was this what it was like during the Nazi’s rise to power? Did other nations turn a blind eye and say “not my problem”? Now the formerly so called leader of the free world has been taken down by the oligarchs and so many countries and people are saying good luck, get fucked. I guess it’s fine to overthrow some back water country in the name of “democracy” but the US can rot right? Not like this will have any impact on global relations or climate change, right?
To be clear, I’m not attacking you, I’m just frustrated to see this happening around me and seeing so little support for the people here that want absolutely nothing to do with it. There are a lot of people here that don’t deserve what’s coming, that have voted, campaigned, protested and argued against it, and I really wish people took the time to understand that nuance to not just this situation, but everything.
To those that lend encouragement and support to anyone standing against this, thank you, whole heartedly, because we absolutely need it.

Sadly that would be a better outcome… they are really in it for control, the money is a stat to support that goal.

What specifically do you think other countries should be doing?
perestroika@lemm.ee 4 days ago
Prediction: what EU and China will be doing shortly - not out of good will, but because they won’t turn the other cheek - will be carefully targeted tariffs designed to hurt Trump’s main support bases.
It’s been practised before.
CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 4 days ago
Canada is also specifically targeting red states with retaliatory tariffs. Somehow I doubt that is the sort of “help for the American people” OP is asking for.
tacobellhop@midwest.social 4 days ago
You’re right but as a red stater this needs to be done to get my state senators heads out of their asses.
Countries need to target states specifically for economic pressure under a dictator

Providing support and resources for movements that are opposed to Project 2025 and the rise of fascism would be nice, but at the least how about drawing a distinction between the fascists and anti fascists. I’m tired of my friends, family, and myaelf being lumped in with the fascists. Don’t think your own country is immune to fascism either. I see a lot of countries whipping up nationalism in response to what’s happening here, and that’s troubling.

So you expect countries with smaller militaries (ie. all of them) to openly fund groups opposing a democratically elected leader?
but at the least how about drawing a distinction between the fascists and anti fascists
We recognize the distinction, but you have to be aware that you are unfortunately a minority in the country. Less than a third of Americans actually voted against this.
Not everyone in Russia supports the war in Ukraine, and I 100% support anyone trying to leave Russia or the Russian military, but Russia as a country can get fucked and needs to collapse for the good of the world.

Why not? How often do people talk about using a time machine to take out Hitler? How is this different?

This ignores the destruction of the democratic process through gerrymandering, voter suppression, and voter intimidation, not to mention the very real possibility that voting systems were compromised. Of the people that were of age, were able, and did vote, just over half voted for Trump, assuming voting tallies were accurate.
I don’t expect anyone to be out saviors, in fact I expect things to go much like Nazi Germany, where the infection of fascism spreads across the globe and many of the people around me including myself and my kids will probably die. The collapse of the US will not, and is not happening in a vacuum. And before you suggest that I take on the federal government, look at what happened in Hong Kong. Outside support and intervention in coordination with resistance elements in the US is absolutely critical.
Bartsbigbugbag@lemmy.ml 4 days ago
Less than a third voted for him, too. Millions are disenfranchised and millions more recognize that there is no correlation between desires and outcomes when it comes to voting.

The pearl clutching of many non-north American people is becoming nearly comedic.
It’s always been “you shouldn’t lump everyone on that label as the same because they aren’t” up to now, so it sure is “confusing” as to why suddenly all Americans bad.
RandomVideos@programming.dev 4 days ago
Other countries also currently have popular fascists problems. Its hard to help other countries deal with their fascist problems when you have your own fascist problems

It’s easier to roll into an underdeveloped nation than into the nation with the biggest military (and economy I think?) in the world!
Best we can do from the outside right now is help you guys help yourselves, by showing you that the last choice was a bad one so you may make a better choice next time. At least that’s all we can do officially and publicly.

I doubt there will be a true next time. Trump own all of the swing states which was real weird. It will be done on a larger scale next time. The only way we will get out of this is blood.
boonhet@lemm.ee 4 days ago
I mean according to Trump, Elon’s knowledge of computers, including election counting machines, won him the election.
Plagiatus@lemmy.world 4 days ago
I agree, that was really weird. But at least from what I saw nobody bat an eye in the grand scheme of things.

I’m hoping some of the other nations will provide us a way to escape by accepting those of us that wish to leave. I fully intend to try to get my family out if the worst comes to pass. As a white man with a black wife and a biracial son, I’m frankly terrified of all the white supremacy normalization going on. I’m just not sure what countries would be willing to have us. I’m neither rich nor particularly talented, but I’m willing to learn and work.
Plagiatus@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Agreed. It’s already starting with scientists that leave the us and come to Europe, and I hope we’ll welcome more of you with open arms in the future. Unfortunately the anti immigrant sentiment is growing in Europe as well, so it’s really unclear.
