- Comment on Reception for Avowed has been very positive with Xbox and Microsoft, game director says 3 weeks ago:
I’ve been enjoying the game and seem to be close to the end. I actually like that it is not overly complicated. Makes it easier to pick up for an hour or two and just play.
My problem is the inconsistencies. At times it acts like it wants to be a deeper game and at times it is just mindless action. Feels like they cut a lot of planned content and just smoothed it over. For example, both unique weapons and armor can be upgraded with materials you find and purchase, but only weapons allow upgrading the unique stat itself, and its only a single choice between two options. It seems almost pointless. They should have just dropped that system entirely or expanded it to be more meaningful.
Late in the game are two choices that feel meaningful and appear to influence the map and story. Great, except, where was this for the entire first half of the game? So many choices just seem to be for flavor that when one actually has consequences it is jarring.
Then there is stealth. The game has a stealth mechanic and skills to buff stealth attacks. However, the moment you attack from stealth, every enemy in range is aggro’d to your location and stealth is no longer possible. Stealth is effectively just a first hit damage bonus. Again, it seems like they planned to make stealth a thing, then either cut it or could not make it work, but left parts of it in the game.
Illusions… The game has several, fairly trivial elemental obstacles. Most can be dealt with in several ways. Tangled vines can be burned with fire skills, certain throwables, or a companion ability. Same for electric switches, freezable bars (to shatter them), etc. All except illusions. Those can only be cleared by a specific companion ability, which means late in the game you are either forced to use that companion or give up on anything behind illusions. There is even a spot in the throwables UI that looks like it could be for an extra item type, but I’ve yet to find something to fill it. Maybe in the last area…
Overall I do like the game, but no way is it worth $70.

I’ve only watched the first one. Visually it was great, but the scenes over shadowed the plot to such a degree that, even having read the source , it was still hard to follow.
- Comment on dear republicans, what's the point of alienating every single ally of the US? 4 weeks ago:
Simple bully logic. If you are bigger than someone else, simply hit and threatening them to get whatever you want. Works really well until all the victims gang up and fight back together.
- Comment on Suppose you were a dissident facing political persecution, how would you preserve your personal files so that you can retrieve it many years later, in case of imprisonment? 4 weeks ago:
Lawyer, friends/family, cloud storage, or safety deposit box all seem like viable normal options.
To be extra safe. 6 hard drives (each with a copy of the files, and four stacks of Blu-ray disks (each with a copy of the files). Divide these into at least two yeti coolers (include a large silica gel pack just in case), and bury the coolers as deep as possible in the woods.

- Comment on Multiverse 2 months ago:
Ah, but there would be another where someone anticipated this and figured out how to stop it.
Of course that then suggests a universe where a madman figured out how to destroy the multiverse and keep it from being stopped, and one where a dogooder anticipated that…
Such a multiverse could end up existing in a state of indeterminate existance. Like a certain cat…

- Comment on Anons make the worst game ever 2 months ago:
Every single shelf, cupboard, sack, discolored patch of dirt, hollow tree, etc. Is lootable. 99.9% of the loot is useless. The remaining 0.1% is key to solving several quests and/or the best stuff in the game.

- Comment on USA President term limits 4 months ago:
He could run again as a placeholders VP, then have the placeholder resign after taking office. This would bypass the can only be “elected” twice rule.
Yes, there is an amendment that requires a VP to meet the same eligibility requirements as the president that should prevent this, but a corrupt court could rule that since that amendment does not explicitly mention term limits, those do not apply…
- Comment on Do you actually care about your friend's new baby, vacation abroad or similar life events or are you just being nice? 5 months ago:
Yes and no. For close friends, family, and long time coworkers. I care that you had a good trip, that mom and baby are healthy, and would not mind a few photos. But that’s it. I don’t need a 500 page travel album or daily baby pics.

- Comment on Sea of Stars – Throes of the Watchmaker DLC – Indie World Showcase 8.27.2024 7 months ago:
I’m not sure I even made it 1/10 of the way. I want to like the game but there was just nothing compelling me to continue or to pick it back up. The combat was especially disappointing. They captured the monotony of an rpg button masher without the ability to just zone out or multitask while playing. Also seems way to reliant on the moonerang.
- Comment on What are some game series you would like to see revived? And if possible, which entry should the new game follow from? 7 months ago:
Master of Orion I loved I and II. The third apparently bombed and reboots have failed.
Sim City I mean the real Sim city as Maxis would have made it. Not a cash grab, not a mobile game, not a “city painter” where any simulation takes a back seat to decorating with DLC assets.
Super Mario RPG no those other, spiritual successors do not count. They are fine games on their own but not the same.
Lost in Blue not the fanciest games, but I enjoyed them. There are plenty of modern games in the genre, but I haven’t found one that quite fits…

Locomotion was the official “spiritual” sequel, but I remember that game being horribly disappointing.

- Comment on Brian Cox Says Cinema Is In “a Very Bad Way”, Cites Marvel, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’: “It’s Become Party Time” 7 months ago:
When going to the movies requires planning the entire day around arbitrary showtimes and inflated runtimes, showing up early on case of lines, spending a small fortune on tickets and an even larger one on snacks, dealing with power tripping teens who threaten to call the cops to kill you…, being forced to watch 20 minutes of commercials before the trailers even start so that by the time the movie begins any popcorn left is cold and mysteriously starting to smell like vomit, then running to the restroom to find half the lights and toilets don’t even work, the movie better be guaranteed to be worth the effort and make full use of the “cinema experience”.
For me, that means big names in established franchises with lots of action and explosions as pretty much anything else would be better watched at home.

- Comment on Coming back to a western open world game H:FW after Elden Ring is a massive whiplash 8 months ago:
I liked Gensin Impact for the first few years, but last time I played it, that game was the worst example of this.
Teleport to location. Chat with npc for 5 minutes. Teleport to next location. Chat with another npc rehashing the first conversation for 5 minutes. Quick fight with trivial enemies. Teleport back to first npc Chat about random crap, slow walk to another npc, rehash the earlier conversation again, walk back to starting location, receive the most basic of rewards.
The game is 90% dialog of which very little is relevant or meaningful and none can be skipped. There is an auto advance option for conversations, but so many meaningless dialog prompts (with options are always the same semanticly) that it doesn’t work.
Of course this is all by design as the real goal is to sell you characters, not play a game.

Given an infinite number of rooms and guests, it is highly likely both he and the boulder are already there. So he should o to the hotel where he already is and has a room
Happy comes from hap, which is essentially luck. So happy can imply lucky or fortunate. If he gets to the hotel and finds he already is checked into his room in an otherwise full hotel, then he is indeed lucky and likely happy.
