- Comment on As the Canada "tax holiday" starts, Walmart increased the price of an item by the amount I would have saved 1 week ago:
The goal is to mess up price history. So it will have a list price of $50 but with a coupon to make it $35. Then a sale day happens and they lower the price to $40. It’s 20% off! Good deal.
It doesn’t really help if you’re comparison shopping with alerts. I don’t know that Amazon thinks you’re going to go to another site.

The context is just her life. That she’s attempting to apply to everyone always. The problem is not the question like she seems to assume. And her solution to ask “Where do you consider home?” is awkward and doesn’t really help.
To note, the problem is the underlying assertion that they have to be from somewhere foreign when other people in the same area won’t have that assumption applied to them. So the context the question is asked in matters a lot and her blanket statement completely takes that context out of it.

Sometimes the powers that be need the proper motivation needed to get rid of the orphan crushing machine.

It’s sick you think he was innocent.

First you listen to a bunch of speeches. Then they call everyone’s name individually, and you walk across a stage, shake hands with some people, get handed a degree. Then maybe everyone throws their hat in the air.

Aren’t you teaching them how effective bullying is? And that it’s ok for an adult to use it to get the behavior they want? Or do you face any consequences for your bullying?

It seems like networking would be even more important for you. You’d have people who could vouch for you: “Yeah they’re kind of weird in an interview, but they do amazing work.”

Is it because of the kids or the admin/parents/political activists/gun violence/low pay?
- Comment on gen z gorillas 4 weeks ago:
Maybe the people complaining drown out everyone else. But people like David Hogg and Greta Thunberg are Gen Z and out doing more than most to fix the problems they see. Like maybe people complain that Gen Z has no idea what files on a computer are, but that seems like a different thing than helplessness.

No. The outcome is Trump is president.

That isn’t an outcome.

There are the words straight out of Trump’s mouth. If you believe that Democrats will kill more people than Republicans, that’s a completely different conversation.

More people than the Republicans would.

It’s a stupid question. But that’s the reality. So genocide or worse genocide? If you say neither, it’s probably going to be worse genocide.

Uh, pronouns are just words. They don’t have some innate quality that means they had to exist when the entities those pronouns describe began. He/Him is likely about as old as he/him.

This in reply to a person who took more effort to write a program that wrote out the steps for inverting a matrix so they didn’t have to do the busy work of inverting a silly number of them? Kinda sounds like they prefer really understanding and challenging work to busy work is all.

- Comment on I'm going insane 2 months ago:
Yes, I have.
Have you tried it? Find a mirror big enough to show your whole body and press your face right up to it. Do you see your whole body? Now take a step back, do you see your whole body at the same time without having to look and up and down? Now walk several steps back and notice how much more you can see without moving your eyes.
We’re talking about 2 separate concepts is the problem.
- Comment on I'm going insane 2 months ago:
Ok, I can see the point, but it’s not usually what people mean when they can see their whole body. In that example, you’re looking down or looking up. It’s not the whole body entirely in your field of view. For your whole body to be entirely in your field of view, it absolutely does matter how close or far you are from the mirror.
- Comment on I'm going insane 2 months ago:
The reflection being further is the point? The further away something is, the smaller it looks, so the less of your field of view it takes up, the more you can see of it.
If I put my hand on my eye, I can’t see much of it. If I pull my hand back, I can see more of it. If I put a mirror on my eye, I can only see my eye. If I put it back, I can see my face because the reflection of my face is further (i.e. smaller).
I’m very confused what you’re trying to say.

I found this video and I really wouldn’t be able to tell if it was just sound. I think I have like 2 categories I can reliably do for strings: bow or not.
- Comment on Instruments 2 months ago:
Soundwise or visually? I can see the difference (big vs little) but I don’t think I could reliably pick out the sound between the two.
- Comment on Francis Ford Coppola: ‘Megalopolis’ cast purposefully includes ‘canceled’ actors 3 months ago:
It’s at least the same concept. Words can hurt. Don’t use them to hurt people. Why do they seem to get that with the n-word but not other slurs or demeaning language? Do they actually understand that with the n-word, or are they just copying what everyone else does without actually thinking about why?
