Well this is borderline unintelligible, I’ll see myself out I guess. Carry on, people.

As an American I can unequivocally state that differing time zones are one thing we do get. It’s a very wide place.

Oof, nevermind the accent, do we have to import your sense of “humor”?

Interesting. I would have thought 5,2 or 6,1.
- Comment on Names for different positions on the couch 1 year ago:
As a person entrenched in the lower income class, almost every couch I’ve ever sat on has been profoundly uncomfortable. Gimme that floor spot any time. Easier to cuddle with the dogs anyway.

Agreed. I miss merry-go-rounds personally…

Sure. We will have to be willing to pay the price as a society, and that’s a hard sell for people who don’t choose to do those things. Probably worth reiterating that we actually do restrict people from swimming in certain places. Why? Because it’s too dangerous and also puts rescuers at risk. You might say, “well just let them drown”, but that seems rather callous in my opinion. I suppose the boring answer like usual is finding a middle ground where most interested parties are unhappy with the compromise.
- Comment on The Dope Fiend 1 year ago:
I support marijuana legalization, but this argument doesn’t work. The reality is that we all pay a price when people do certain things. It would be naive in the extreme to argue, for example, that opioids haven’t had a very negative impact on society as a whole. Or think about smoking cigarettes. How much does society pay for all the health problems it causes? Drinking? How much do we all pay for the chaos alcohol can cause, the domestic issues it creates, the broken families, the people killed by drunk drivers? This ain’t the wild west, you can’t just live and let live anymore in a world of 8 billion people.

I work for a plant that prints local papers. They are an invaluable source of local news, and you are correct, the internet is slowly killing them. It’s a real loss for civic engagement. People really need to pay attention to what’s happening locally. National stories are sexier, but we actually have much more control over what happens in our own neighborhoods and towns.
- Comment on So much for that dream. 1 year ago:
Please tell me you aren’t getting your news from Disney. But seriously, a halfway decent local paper is probably more worth your attention than the latest attention grabbing headline at the NYT. Good choice.
- Comment on If you know, you know 1 year ago:
It’s a very sad story actually, which I don’t think gets discussed much. All the characters who go in seem accutely isolated and lonely. That feeling of isolation from the world, if you’ve ever felt it, well, the story resonates. The characters literally only fit in to their own little place, completely separated from the rest of the world. There’s literally no room for anyone or anything else. But what comes out of living like that in the end? Well, it’s not pretty.
It’s an examination of modern life and hyper-individualism.

If you look through my comments in this thread you’ll see that nowhere have I said anything like that. In fact at one point I said that neither adult in a relationship should get to dictate where the other person sleeps.

Ironically it’s about the level of sense of humor those who would find this offensive have.

Explanations aren’t excuses, and without explanations we can’t fix the problem. Villainizing can be useful and certainly feels good but it doesn’t accomplish much else.
