Here’s an expert explaining it better.

See my comments below. I’m pretty convinced he was manually cycling his slide because his suppressor, whether homemade or street sourced, lacked a Nielsen device or “piston” or “booster”

It’s A LOT to learn, and has been a primary interest of mine for a couple days, so I love sharing. I also love your big pp energy for updating the original comment.

I’m also of the mind that knowing the limitations of his setup, he trained around his need to manually cycle his weapon. In the video, he did so smoothly and efficiently without any perceptible panic in his movements.

I don’t want to be a hater, but you’re wrong about a lot of things in this post. Supressors do not slow a projectile, and in most cases actually increase muzzle velocity due to increased dwell time for gas expansion. They suppress muzzle flash and report by containing said gasses. Sonic booms still happen, and supressors work more effectively with specific sub sonic ammunition, which is usually achieved with a heavier projectile weight lowering the velocity.
I’m not trying to dunk on you here, just trying to educate.
Obtaining a supressor isn’t too difficult, but you do have to be thoroughly screened by the ATF after submitting photos, fingerprints, and a form, and a $200 tax, which leads me to believe this suppressor was homemade and lacked a Nielsen device, see my thread above.

So, many older pistol designs used a barrel in a fixed position in relation to the pistols frame. Due to this configuration, the added weight of a suppressor hanging from the barrel does not impede the mechanical operation of the slide cycling.
Modern pistol designs utilize variations of John Brownings tilting barrel design. Because the barrel tilts during the cycling of the pistol, the weight of the suppressor interrupts the movement of the barrel and slide preventing a full stroke of the slide to eject the spent case and feed another round from the magazine. Not good.
In response, something called a Nielsen device was developed, basically a cylinder with a spring in it that encourages the pistol slide to fully cycle. These are sometimes referred to as a “piston” or “booster”.
Suppressors are heavily regulated by the ATF, and id have to guess that when seeking one on the grey or black market, or manufacturing your own, a Nielsen device is not easy to replicate with crude means, nor easy to find on the street.
TL:DR dude was missing a part that makes a pistol work more gooder with a suppressor.

My big in game accomplishment was making it to SagA*, I spent some time in colonia and joined a discord of nerds that hung out there getting big exploration creds. I actually made the trek all the way back to the bubble after spending about a month in the galactic core. It was an epic adventure in my mind, but afterwards it was hard to be motivated for the engineering grind.

Yeah, I never even bought it after reading the reviews about how janky it is, I want to use a HOTAS and rudder pedals and it doesn’t sound possible in X4

Yeah, and it’s sad bro. I put about 900 hours into Elite: Dangerous, which I enjoyed a great deal, but it still left me longing for something with more depth. Back then I thought Star Citizen would be the next leap forward in my career as a space trucker who dabbles in bounty hunting and deep space exploration. I wanted to have games worthy of justifying a home cockpit setup, and now it seems like a lost cause.
I really hope someone picks up the torch. Even if it’s just Frontier making a generational leap with the Elite IP.

I dunno, there are plenty of valid criticisms of both games, but they were both great games. I played through both of them more than once and loved them. They were janky, glitchy, and the second game added a lot of new ideas, seemly at the cost of map size and polish.
I’m buying the day it’s available, I know it’ll have an issue or two but I’ll still love it.

This is right up my alley, so I bought it, congrats on your first release! I have to imagine it’ll play great on my steamdeck, hoping anyways.

If Disney doesn’t license at least one MF Doom track for the soundtrack it’ll be a huge missed opportunity

What I wouldn’t give to see Big Gretch in the Oval Office. MAGAts literally tried to hatch a plan to kidnap and murder her, so she’s aware of the threat they pose to civilization in a way few others are. That aside, she’s taught effectively for labor, helped repeal right to work in her home state, and is brimming with personality.
She also doesn’t want the job, which makes her even more perfect for it.
- Comment on Why not serve fried chicken on Juneteenth? How is it different from serving corned beef on St. Patrick’s day? 5 months ago:
Dated a lovely black woman back in my late 20s, she took me to meet her family like a month in, they were all super sweet. Dinner was fried chicken, hominy, mustard and collard greens, slaw and Mac n cheese, her grandmas fried chicken made me forget I ever cared about my grandmas fried chicken. Who the fuck doesn’t love fried chicken? Okay sure, vegans, but other than that?
And seriously I get the whole stereotype being a deep seated bunch of white people fuckery, but like, fuck that, let’s eat.
- Comment on Is it just me or do Lemmy communities tend to skew left wing? Why might this be? 6 months ago:
I would say that FOSS typically draws a more educated crowd, and right wing rhetoric and propaganda typically target those of lesser education and lower cognitive ability, simply because those people are the most likely hosts for rightoid brain worms. Why do colleges skew heavily left, gee it must be brainwashing /s

Find a dental school in your area. They often offer extremely low rates for simple things like a filling or extraction, just not much by the way of cosmetic work.

Neat. Sounds worth checking out.
I ran windows then, now I run Linux exclusively. Guess I’ll have to dig in and see if that works.

A couple years ago I installed misery and dumped a couple hundred hours into it and holy fuck was it good. Frantic memories of fights that I’ll probably never forget. Fuck burers.
- Comment on Looking for games with strong female leads for my daughter (even just to watch as I play). Came across this link, but they're a bit old. Any suggestions from the community? 1 year ago:
Ooo ooo I’ve got one.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits. It’s like a Pixar souls like adventure game. Lots of foresty magic, very beautiful, and challenging enough to give you a run for your money while she laughs at your many failures.
It’s a good game.
