Yeah man, the prices are unfortunate, but supply and demand is definitely a thing. Items are only worth what people are willing to pay, and I’m fortunate to be able to justify some of my expendable income on growing my collection here and there.
If you really want your head to hurt, look up some of those really popular games sealed and WATA/PSA graded. Old graded consoles still sealed can sell for 6 digits.
I definitely have several of my favorites ripped for a rainy day. It’s definitely not a hobby for everyone. I have more modern emulation machines that can easily run all of my backups, but there’s really no replacement for the real games on real hardware. Just like some people are audiophile vinyl collectors who thumb their nose at Spotify and a pair of ear buds.

-
Selling games from 10-20 years ago isn’t scalping.
-
I have 15 Nintendo handhelds on my last count. 2 of the 3ds are modded.
-
I have a pretty sizable collection and I’ve not had a game die on me yet, aside from save batteries that I’m capable of changing. I know the games can eventually die, I know it’s on the horizon, but they all still work for now, and I think even after they die I’ll enjoy the memories that the physical media provided me.

This. My bad log of physical DS and 3ds games is extensive and grows a little every time I remember I have the eBay app on my phone. Sorry wallet.
- Comment on Games you really want to play, but can't or won't? 1 week ago:
I have a beefy gaming PC and spend way more time on retro handhelds. Nintendo 3ds, DS, GBA. Gives me a nerd hobby to collect games, and you can enjoy keeping them nice, picking them up when you want and putting them down when you’re done. Soooo many good titles too.
- Comment on Is AsteroidOS usable? Should I get an old smartwatch and install it? 5 weeks ago:
I’m into other forms of retro electronics and I must warn you. It sounds like you’re veering into hobby territory.
You found this thing. It might be neat. But let’s say you pick it up and find that the batter doesn’t hold a charge very long. Do you buy another one, or do you invest in new tools for tiny electronics, maybe some jewelers style magnification and lighting, and invest time into learning how to service this device, building skills and knowledge from the experience.
To me this sounds great, assuming you can afford a hobby, or find ways to make the hobby affordable. What other interesting directions could the new skills and tools take you in?

The correct way to refer to the left lane is “the passing lane”
Get in it. Pass someone. Get the fuck back out. If you aren’t passing, you have no business in the passing lane, simple.

Yep, I have the same story verbatim dude. Fuck Rockstar, permanently. Haven’t played one of their games in like 5 years, and I never will again.

Ohhhhhh shit you’re right. I still stand by my statement lol. If you don’t own Stardew you should.
Hollow knight is another one like that. Absolute must play.
- Comment on What should I get my online friend for their birthday? 6 months ago:
Definitely Stardew. Everyone should have Stardew.
- Comment on Why is Lemmy attempting to radicalise people to enforce class wars? 7 months ago:
Precisely. I’m a millennial, and this place has a decidedly millennial vibe. Linux nerds, privacy advocates, people seeking an alternative to the slop of mainstream social media. I would imagine people under 25 are a rarity here.
- Comment on Apple TV+ is painful as fuck 8 months ago:
I’ve ran into the apple hate crowd plenty of times. I don’t think they’re any kind of tech paragon, but my household includes the Apple TV, three HomePods, two iPhones and MacBook Air and all of them work together seamlessly.
My main PC is running EndeavourOS and hyprland, so at least there’s no windows in the house.
- Comment on Apple TV+ is painful as fuck 8 months ago:
Been running an AppleTV HD for two years, and I’ve never had to reinput my password, nor have I had any other issues with it. I charge the remote battery maybe twice a year, and everything just works, faster and smoother than any onboard smart tv os I’ve ever used.

- Comment on My sister’s AMAB friend likes to look like a girl and even said she wanted to be a “Japanese woman”, why would conservatives think using she/her pronouns for her is forcing an agenda? 10 months ago:
I think it’s pretty fucking obvious what their problem is. They don’t want the newfound visibility that trans people have gained over the last few years to present a visible option for their kids and grandkids. They didn’t care about trans people years ago because they were largely in the shadows. Now that the language and culture around trans people is becoming visible to the average American, it has become the perfect shibboleth for the right wing to rally around no different than when the Christian right pulled abortion out of thin air as a rallying point to drive right wing voters. Don’t want your daughter to embarrass the fuck out of you at social functions when they introduce themselves as Xe/Xer/Xim? Vote Republican. That’s the point of the manufactured outrage. A way to drive funding and votes for fascism. And it worked. Trans visibility is the golden egg dropped in trumps lap that put him back in office.
This isn’t just mindless theorizing. I work with these right wing jackasses. It’s all they talk about.

See my comments below. I’m pretty convinced he was manually cycling his slide because his suppressor, whether homemade or street sourced, lacked a Nielsen device or “piston” or “booster”

It’s A LOT to learn, and has been a primary interest of mine for a couple days, so I love sharing. I also love your big pp energy for updating the original comment.
- Comment on Claim Denied 1 year ago:
I’m also of the mind that knowing the limitations of his setup, he trained around his need to manually cycle his weapon. In the video, he did so smoothly and efficiently without any perceptible panic in his movements.
- Comment on Claim Denied 1 year ago:
I don’t want to be a hater, but you’re wrong about a lot of things in this post. Supressors do not slow a projectile, and in most cases actually increase muzzle velocity due to increased dwell time for gas expansion. They suppress muzzle flash and report by containing said gasses. Sonic booms still happen, and supressors work more effectively with specific sub sonic ammunition, which is usually achieved with a heavier projectile weight lowering the velocity.
I’m not trying to dunk on you here, just trying to educate.
Obtaining a supressor isn’t too difficult, but you do have to be thoroughly screened by the ATF after submitting photos, fingerprints, and a form, and a $200 tax, which leads me to believe this suppressor was homemade and lacked a Nielsen device, see my thread above.
- Comment on Claim Denied 1 year ago:
So, many older pistol designs used a barrel in a fixed position in relation to the pistols frame. Due to this configuration, the added weight of a suppressor hanging from the barrel does not impede the mechanical operation of the slide cycling.
Modern pistol designs utilize variations of John Brownings tilting barrel design. Because the barrel tilts during the cycling of the pistol, the weight of the suppressor interrupts the movement of the barrel and slide preventing a full stroke of the slide to eject the spent case and feed another round from the magazine. Not good.
In response, something called a Nielsen device was developed, basically a cylinder with a spring in it that encourages the pistol slide to fully cycle. These are sometimes referred to as a “piston” or “booster”.
Suppressors are heavily regulated by the ATF, and id have to guess that when seeking one on the grey or black market, or manufacturing your own, a Nielsen device is not easy to replicate with crude means, nor easy to find on the street.
TL:DR dude was missing a part that makes a pistol work more gooder with a suppressor.

My big in game accomplishment was making it to SagA*, I spent some time in colonia and joined a discord of nerds that hung out there getting big exploration creds. I actually made the trek all the way back to the bubble after spending about a month in the galactic core. It was an epic adventure in my mind, but afterwards it was hard to be motivated for the engineering grind.

Yeah, I never even bought it after reading the reviews about how janky it is, I want to use a HOTAS and rudder pedals and it doesn’t sound possible in X4
- Comment on 12 Years and $700 Million Later, What's Going on With Star Citizen's Development? 1 year ago:
Yeah, and it’s sad bro. I put about 900 hours into Elite: Dangerous, which I enjoyed a great deal, but it still left me longing for something with more depth. Back then I thought Star Citizen would be the next leap forward in my career as a space trucker who dabbles in bounty hunting and deep space exploration. I wanted to have games worthy of justifying a home cockpit setup, and now it seems like a lost cause.
I really hope someone picks up the torch. Even if it’s just Frontier making a generational leap with the Elite IP.
- Comment on Subnautica 2 - Official Teaser Trailer 1 year ago:
I dunno, there are plenty of valid criticisms of both games, but they were both great games. I played through both of them more than once and loved them. They were janky, glitchy, and the second game added a lot of new ideas, seemly at the cost of map size and polish.
I’m buying the day it’s available, I know it’ll have an issue or two but I’ll still love it.
