I think you’re mixing up Italian cuisine with fake Italian-American cuisine, which has nothing to do with what actual Italians eat in Italy.
- Comment on Let's put ice in the wine and chocolate in the hummus 4 days ago:
Fun fact: the original neapolitan name for spaghetti was maccheroni.

Not only the amount of dairy.
For Italians, “caffè” is just espresso. Then you have “americano”, which is similar to filter coffee even though it’s usually made by adding warm water to an espresso.
Then you have “ristretto”, which is a shorter espresso.

It depends. Inertia.js can pre-render pages server side, so you don’t need JavaScript to see the content.

Same when I’m in Denmark, I love it. Too bad we don’t have them down in Italy.

Yeah, but trust me. People in Zurich only learn German and a bit of French, they don’t care about Italian or Ladin.
- Comment on [deleted] 1 month ago:
Or if your native language is similar to the one you’re trying to learn. If you speak Danish, learning Norwegian is super easy, learning Swedish is easy.
If you’re Italian, speaking Spanish is easy, writing French is easy (even though actually speaking it is harder than Spanish given the strongly different pronunciation).

I’ve been using super cheap 10 € Logitech mice since the dawn of time and I’ve never experienced that. What are you doing with your mouse?

TIL I learned that 0 °F is the temperature of a freezer (it’s -18 in Celsius). I wonder if there’s a scientific reason for it to be -18 or if it’s just arbitrary so it’s 0 in Fahrenheit.

Italy is super cheap compared to the US, but the quality varies a lot by region (don’t go to the south) and the waiting lists are so long.

Is the screen protector really necessary?
I’ve never used it, just a cover on the back.

It makes a bit of sense because Duolingo teaches you the American variety of English and Brazilian.
But still… why?!
- Comment on Speak American 3 months ago:
I usually use UK English to have a sane date formatting (the US format is completely retarded), but you have a good idea. I’ll use Ireland from now on.
- Comment on Speak American 3 months ago:
See? This is why we shouldn’t use flags to represent languages.
Go to Brazil, and I bet they use the Brazilian flag to represent the language they speak, not the Portuguese one.
Go to Ireland, and you’ll see they use the Irish flag to represent the English language.
In Switzerland, what flag should they use to represent Ladin?
And what about Canada? They speak two official languages.
The correct way to display languages is just their name or they ISO code. Using flags for languages is fundamentally wrong.
- Comment on Speak American 3 months ago:
British English is the OG English. They should always use that flag.

Have you seen the average person recently? They like to be spoon-fed content in a passive way. Look at Instagram Reels or TikTok.
Mastodon is fine for geeks like us, but the average Joe would find it dead and boring. Bluesky managed to fill that hole left by Twitter.

You’re partially right, I’d like to add some details: websites can also check if a domain (e.g. example.com) actually exists. So if you smash random letters on your keyboard and you end up with a non-existing domain, a website will be able to stop you from using that address.
More advanced websites also check for an MX record on the domain DNS. If a domain exists but it doesn’t have an MX record, then it’s not going to be able to receive emails and may be blocked in sign up forms.
