- Comment on IPhones' default photo format is HEIC, something that Windows doesn't open by default. 2 hours ago:
They do actually, the iTunes store still exists. I haven’t used it though since while it’s DRM free at this point, it’s not lossless.

I wouldn’t even know how to hold a local music library on macOS these days. The app that used to be iTunes is now just called Music right?
Yeah. I have a local library consisting of some albums I bought, some which aren’t on streaming services, and some other stuff such as game soundtracks + also use Apple Music streaming. They complement each other really well.

Interesting. I can’t find anything about the FLAC licensing issues. Do you have a link?
(Also, correction — Wikipedia says macOS in general can play FLAC. I guess it’s just the Music app that can’t import them.)
- Comment on IPhones' default photo format is HEIC, something that Windows doesn't open by default. 2 days ago:
Yep. Lack of format support is usually to blame on the one who doesn’t support the format. You can absolutely blame Apple for this too though, their apps can’t open e.g. Matroska video or FLAC.
And perplexingly, they don’t support uploading HEIC, their own image format of choice, on the web iCloud Photos. So there’s that too.
(At this point my music library is stored as ALAC because it’s well supported in both Linux and Apple’s OSes. Really wish it wouldn’t have to be that way though. Someone needs to tell them about ffmpeg.)

- Comment on Google as Darth Vader: Why iA Writer quit the Android app market 1 month ago:
Wow, I didn’t know there was so much piracy on Android. At least much more so than on desktop computers (or Windows specifically I guess). Enough to make a dev stop even, not just the usual “oh no a few people are pirating our software that would otherwise not have bought it anyway”. I assumed it would be a relatively small percentage of more experienced users.
By mid-September, the iA team claimed to have spent five months making 55 updates to its app and privacy policy and was ready to scan its passports and verify its payment accounts.
Google then requested a CASA Tier 2 assessment. This needed to be done annually, either through an intensive self-directed process or through a corporate partner, like TAC Security or KPMG. By iA’s estimation, the labor and fees to do this would cost “one to two months of revenue” for "a pretty much meaningless scan,” iA suggested in its post.
This is just absolutely crazy. I feel like Google absolutely had it out for them because why would they make them go through this arduous bullshit process for what seems to be described as a text editor app here.
But giving up Factorio is a bridge too far.
Factorio has an ARM port, it runs great on my M2 MacBook. But even if it didn’t, Rosetta works well enough so that x86-only games are playable.

I killed 3 Raspberry Pis by putting them onto a metal surface while turned on (first two times I didn’t know what was happening and the third time was accidental). Do not recommend.

People paid for that original game too, it wasn’t free. I don’t assume they got refunded. It was basically a massive bait and switch.

I did not realize this game was this well known! It has a super low player peak and at least last time I looked after I first played it years ago no big YouTube channels had a let’s play of it either.

Lorn’s Lure (currently demo only, releases in 3 weeks)
An android is led through a vast structure by a glitch in his visual system. Lorn’s Lure is an atmospheric narrative first-person platformer with novel climb-anything mechanics and modernized retro 3D graphics.

Concluse is an atmospheric horror game which features puzzles, outstanding cutscenes, and something a little twisted…
This one is free! Unfortunately a lot of my niche games are horror, not sure how broad of an appeal that is, but hopefully there’s some horror fans here :^)

Evoland 2 is an unique RPG, with its graphic style and gameplay changing as you progress through a deep storyline based on time travel.
- Comment on Useless Calendar Widget 2 months ago:
What are the “2 all-day events”?
Tap on it to find out (if this wasn’t an image). I assume there’s a fixed one row of space for an all-day event there. That’s definitely on purpose, considering they even have a toggle switch to completely hide all-day events. Sure, it could be two or up to two elements but that comes at the cost of the detail on the timeline below. They probably considered the timeline to be more important because that changes more often as opposed to the all-day events that only change once per day, and that as a consequence you’re going to check the all-day events once per day (or even just the day before), so you can just tap the widget if you want to see them.
It would be great if it was more customizable in terms of the layout of course, but this is Apple we’re talking about. I’m honestly surprised there’s a toggle switch to completely hide all-day events in the first place.
Why is HALF of the widget wasted white space.
This one’s a timeline, not a list of events unlike the one in your post, and in that time (8-12 today) there are no events, so it’s blank. It’s as much wasted white space as the full calendar view with no events in it.
Personally I have no problem with the calendar widget, but I have to say collapsing today’s all-day events in the list view as in the OP if there’s space left is questionable at best.
- Comment on Twitter disappears from Mac App Store | TechCrunch 3 months ago:
I used this years ago when I was still on Twitter, it was a good app. It actually used windows properly instead of stuffing everything into a single window (for example making a new tweet opened a separate dialog) and everything. Rare to see nowadays

The main patch you’ll want is TFix/T2Fix, posted on TTLG Forums. I think it comes prepatched from GOG, on Steam you’ll have to patch it yourself.
@comicallycluttered@beehaw.org what do you mean by very clunky? I don’t think they are at all. Except maybe the default control scheme which is pretty bad today, but you can rebind everything (or use my bind file, works for both games)

Thief: The Dark Project and Thief 2: The Metal Age (PC, 1998/2000). (the second game is essentially just more of the first, but more refined)
Still the best stealth games to date if that’s your cup of tea, and holds up excellently.

- Comment on Indie games using retro graphics 4 months ago:
I need to mention the Enigma Trilogy here. It uses the retro graphics so well to its advantage to create a strong horror atmosphere that I don’t think could have been done anywhere near as well with high fidelity graphics.
And it has a very small audience and definitely deserves a lot more so go check these games out! store.steampowered.com/…/THE_ENIGMA_TRILOGY/
