Trying to make the time to review all this SOC 2 evidence for our annual audit, while also getting pinged for tons of other issues all the time.

I mean, I use Discord pretty much every day, and that’s what I assumed.

Oh, and Dunsany! Can’t believe I forgot him.
- Comment on Is "Red Storm Rising" by Tom Clancy considered a good book? 1 week ago:
They’re both mass-market pulp that are entertaining to read. There’s plenty of sci-fi and fantasy that’s literature: Ursula LeGuin, Tolkien, Gene Wolfe, NK Jemisin, Vonnegut… the list goes on.
- Comment on Is "Red Storm Rising" by Tom Clancy considered a good book? 1 week ago:
I mean, it’s Tom Clancy. It’s a fun read, like Dan Brown or Brandon Sanderson, but it’s not literature or anything.

I’m confused here: Hasn’t Red Dead Redemption been on Steam for years?

They haven’t actually had a presence at PAX for ages. They did an event there to announce IBS when it was coming out, but I don’t believe they had a booth then. They’ve had parties pretty regularly though

Will do! We went last year too; we’re a PNW guild (primarily Portland, OR) so it’s a reasonable trip. Gonna check out a couple of days of PAX as well.

I’ve been playing it through Steam since Windows 7 went EOL. No problems unless you count Taco not working.

FYI your spoiler text isn’t working for me; nor is that of anyone in the reply chain. Not sure if this is a problem with Boost, some weird federation glitch, or something else.

- Comment on Top EU Court Says There’s No Right To Online Anonymity, Because Copyright Is More Important 5 months ago:
Definitely; OP’s linked article doesn’t have any quotes that refer to copyright, while this one of yours adds a lot of context that was otherwise missing. There’s a world of difference between allowing retention of IP addresses and creating a cleaning house for IPs suspected of distributing works.
- Comment on Token2 is an open-source Swiss FIDO2 security key that brings innovative features at a cheaper price 5 months ago:
I don’t see a good way to put it on a keychain; the only hole looks tiny, and right on an edge where it’s likely to snap after a year or so of wear.
- Comment on What kind of institutional gaslighting is this? 6 months ago:
How is taking a pay cut when there’s massive inflation even remotely understandable? Inflation means that they need to pay you more, not less; your costs are rising.
- Comment on Mentorship Monday - Discussions for career and learning! 8 months ago:
I think I’m good as far as job security goes, so that’s a plus. I should ramp up the job hunt I suppose. Already trying to study for the CISSP after work though and I am a big fan of having down time to unwind.
- Comment on Mentorship Monday - Discussions for career and learning! 8 months ago:
Hey all! I’m trying to figure out where I go next in this career. I’m working at a mid sized company that is owned by a company that is owned by another company. Started out as a software dev about right years ago and spent a lot of time as a security champion; finally moved to the InfoSec team about two years ago. It’s a small InfoSec team: three people total. So I do a lot of stuff: contact reviews, vendor security assessments, firewall log monitoring, code reviews, run security trainings, coordinate external pen tests, gather SOC 2 evidence, incident response… Lots of stuff.
I like most of the work well enough (though the GRC stuff is not my favorite), but recently my boss and my teammate quit, so our team of three is down to me. There’s some support available from the security team of the parent organization, and a very competent contractor, but it’s largely just me.
What I’m wondering mostly is: if I go elsewhere, what kind of role am I looking for? I feel like this Jack-of-all-security-trades thing I’ve got going on can’t be super normal, can it? And also, is my current situation something I should embrace, and take the opportunity to run the InfoSec team? Having someone with two years of security experience at the wheel seems suboptimal to me, but maybe it’s worth doing for the experience?
My ideal would be working with a team of five or six, with people I can learn a lot from; my concern is that right now, most of the learning I can do is from my own mistakes.
- Comment on Cleaning my overstuffed inventory 10 months ago:
Personally, when I come back to San MMO after a long time away, I like to start with a brand new character for exactly that reason: it gives me time to figure out which crap in my inventory is actually worth anything.
If you want a quick way to clean out your inventory that probably won’t get rid of anything too important, type “trophy” into the inventory search bar and ditch all that stuff. Use the 80 boost on a new character; it doesn’t lock you out of your personal story. If you want to keep going, use the wiki. In case you’re not aware, you can link an item in game by shift -clicking it. If you type /wiki in the chat and then link the item, it’ll bring up your browser with a wiki link to the relevant page. The wiki will often tell you if the item is worth having on to.

They aren’t doing Living World any more though, are they? I thought the plan was one smaller expansion a year, then quarterly updates?
- Comment on Hey All! I just logged back into my account for the first time since 2013! Question for you! 1 year ago:
As someone already said, don’t delete your old characters, especially your oldest one: birthday gifts are per character rather than per account. You probably have a ton in your mail if you haven’t gotten them yet. Probably best to be near a back when you open them; they’ll take a lot of inventory space.
It’s up to you whether you want to dive back in on an old character, or start from scratch again on a new one. The nice thing is that leveling is pretty quick, and the game is very alt-friendly; you’re almost expected to have multiple characters, and endgame equipment is all account bound rather than character bound, so you can share it around between characters.
I’d use the 1-80 journey to figure out what you enjoy in game. You get XP for all of it, so once You’ve checked out all. (or maybe most) of it, do the bits you like. Personally,I like exploration and story, so I do that bits. Also instanced PvE. There’s also WvW, PvP, races, adventures, crafting, collections, achievement hunting… all kinds of stuff.
Enjoy it, and welcome back!

Clearly, people who classify themselves as “poor as dirt” should not be allowed to spend money on anything they consider fun.
- Comment on No one really understands our struggle 1 year ago:
It’s so frustrating when people think left means BLM and LGBTQIA+ and vaccination. Those things are all great and I support them, but that’s not what makes me left: left is about Unions and social safety nets and community welfare and workers seizing the means of production.
