- Comment on Blizzard reportedly partnering with Arc Raiders owner Nexon to revive StarCraft as a shooter 6 days ago:
I watch both and I think Brood War is more interesting to watch because there are more fights that last longer and the RNG factor means you can’t tell how the fight is going to go before it happens. There are a lot of tense and exciting moments in Brood War compared to SC2. How many shots will miss when shooting up a cliff? Will this mine detonate and kill 3 dragoons? How long will it take the player to notice that a DT is slaughtering drones without a notification? Will the reaver shot connect or dud? Will the scourges connect?
Basically SC2 is a lot easier to play with very little RNG. Pro players don’t even attack each other early anymore because every cheese is solved. Brood War has a really good rock/paper/scissors balance that has shockingly lasted 25 years with no real balance patches. Also the game was remastered and the graphics are beautiful now.

There very much is still a scene and it’s pretty popular! The meta continues to change which is insane for such an old and allegedly “figured out” game. I see pros using units in matchups that I thought were completely unplayable. There’s a new funky half-island map (Roaring Currents aka Screaming Seas) that has shown some really wild games. I’m rambling, please check it out here: www.youtube.com/@SOOPesports_EN
I play Starcraft 2 today, but freely admit that Brood War is way more entertaining to watch!

I’m still grateful that Blizzard did the Overwatch free weekend so I could determine for myself that it sucks ass.

- Comment on Why do each gaming fraction (pc, consoles, mobile) hating each other? 3 months ago:
I’m a PC gamer that hates console gaming for good reasons.
First, what are the important differences between PC gaming and console gaming?
- PC gaming is more open, users have more freedom and control over their games which allows creative things like mods.
- PC gamers typically use a keyboard and mouse, while consoles use a gamepad.
- PC gamers have varying hardware, console hardware is mostly all the same.
Because of this, console games have become the “lowest common denominator” of video games. If you’re a developer, you target the console and then port to PC. Games are dumbed down, slowed down, and graphically reduced for the console audience and then PC gamers are invited to slurp from the same trough. Modern console gaming has brought us such innovations as quicktime events (playing simon-says with buttons is not gameplay), weapon wheels (not the worst thing tbh), and exclusive deals (paying the dev to NOT release on other platforms). The keyboard and mouse is really a superior way of controlling a game. You have more buttons that you can hit quickly and aiming with a mouse is quicker and more precise. A game like Starcraft might never have been made if consoles were as powerful and popular back then. There actually was a SNES port of Starcraft and people literally only play it as a joke, the controls are too clunky.
In conclusion, I hate console gaming because it made my PC gaming worse. Worse menus, worse controls, worse graphics, less creative freedom, worse gameplay. I should also mention that most of my criticisms are for shooter games. Platformers on consoles are great fun and get ported to PC mostly without these issues.

I just bought a new gamepad, the first with a rumblepak/vibrator that I’ve ever owned. I didn’t know how to test it so I found 2 websites that will just vibrate it however you want. Then I found that this old remastered boomer shooter has rumble even when playing with keyboard and mouse! Let it sit on my belly while playing lol

Bluetooth speakers might be a pain because you might have to manually connect them every time you wake your laptop from suspend.

- Comment on Gamers have you ever been in a game competition or something similar? 6 months ago:
I played in a UT2004 tournament at SCALE or LinuxWorld back in the day. I got 2nd or third place and won a Sun backpack and some other swag. First place was a whole ass Sun computer. I played a few Starcraft 2 tournaments but I hate competing in it. It’s a lot of waiting, playing on far servers with worse ping, and playing against much better people a lot of the time.

I watched some videos of it and it looked really dated and I lost interest haha. I bet having nostalgia for this is probably required.

Good article, I just wish it would say why the game still isn’t available. I never played this game but went down a little rabbit hole looking for it and ET: Quake Wars and it’s insane the hoops you have to jump through to play these games that used to sell. I still hope to jump through those hoops one day and try it out.
- Comment on Why there are a lot of people migrating from Windows to Linux these days? 7 months ago:
The short version is 2 reasons:
- Microsoft requires Windows 11 computers to have special new hardware that not all computers have. Security updates for Windows 10 ends in 3 months. Many people are faced with a choice of buying a new computer, or installing Linux on their current one to save money. Others realize how much Windows 11 sucks shit and switch because Linux is better.
- Gaming on Linux has gotten a lot better recently. For many people, this was the main thing holding them back. Software support in general is better than ever.

I’ve noticed this too. I’ve given up on it and instruct others to look for programs in the start menu alphabetically instead of searching because even that is bad. Same with Outlook searches, I instruct people to use webmail because the searching works there.

Holy shit I just reinstalled, the new beta is great! For Linux players, make sure you force proton compatibility or else it’ll run the native Linux build which is not the beta. This beta has high FPS and properly locks the mouse into the window!
