Microsoft passed on Alan Wake 2.
They bought out Rare and did nothing with them for 15 years. Now they are just “The Sea of Thieves” devs.
Imagine a timeline where they became a 2nd party Nintendo studio instead.
They didn’t do nothing, they did viva pinata and Kinect 🙃
Bro they don’t even understand software.
And yet, they will make billions more because gamers don't care. They will keep buying their slop and using their slopware.
Gamers do care, way less of them are buying their slop and using their slop ware
You’d think they’d understand tech at the bare minimum. But slashing your team of highly technical people who made engines for almost 30 years sure disproves that notion.
I don’t know about all that, didn’t they develop Windows just to have a platform to play FreeCell Solitaire?
No, it was a GUI designed on top of MS-DOS specifically to import Minesweeper from IBM OS/2.
Windows is a 32-bit hardware extension and a graphical shell for a 16-bit patch to an 8-bit operating system originally coded for a 4-bit microprocessor, written by a 2-bit company, that can’t stand 1 bit of competition
They don’t even bundle it with windows anymore 😖
It’s really something they bought together one of the strongest portfolios of gaming companies and franchises you can think of. And then they are just sitting on it, doing nothing with it, dissolving studios and firing people. They have Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Starcraft and Warcraft. Age of Empires. All dead.

they don’t understand humans, or computers, or business, or laws

What do they understand? Money!

Sometimes not even money. Microslop was left holding the bag when they jacked up the price of Gamepass and suddenly it became unaffordable for a lot of customers, and spent billions on a lemon. Sony is actively alienating their supporters, rejecting their largest market, and going all-in on a game that can’t even reach five thousand daily concurrent players on Steam because they’ve already spent billions on another lemon. Bad calls and sunk costs all around.
