I’d take another Impossible Lair over mainline game, but I’m not against a proper 3D collect-a-thon sequel.
Both were enjoyable, but Impossible Lair was better.
- Comment on Yooka-Replaylee! | Reveal Trailer 3 weeks ago:
I guess if we get new games in the long run I don’t really mind, it just seems weird.
I played Yooka-Laylee on release and it was overall an enjoyable game. As I understand they fixed a number of bugs a few months after release, but by then is release day folks had beaten it (and reviewers reviewed it).
The first level of the game was excellent, the later levels felt more rushed (or at least lacking the same level of polish). Maybe the changes will be to those levels, although level layout is key so I don’t know if you can just resize/move things.
I played Impossible Lair about a year after release and thought it was awesome.
Based on this trailer I doubt I’ll play the original again, but maybe I can be convinced.
- Comment on Yooka-Replaylee! | Reveal Trailer 3 weeks ago:
Shouldn’t they just make a sequel in that case?
- Comment on ‘Furiosa,’ ‘Garfield’ lead slowest Memorial Day box office in decades 4 weeks ago:
What the fuck are you talking about.
The original director revived a 30 year old movie franchise. In doing so completely reset the story.
Call the film “Fury Road” staring “Mad Matt” and you’d be calling it a visionary new story with tasteful callbacks to 80s action films.
Then we get a prequel to the film 9 years later. In what world is that milking? A follow up to a film isn’t milking a franchise.
- Comment on ‘Furiosa,’ ‘Garfield’ lead slowest Memorial Day box office in decades 4 weeks ago:
I’m not sure you can call Furiosa franchise milking.
Apart from sharing a name the 2015 film came out 30 years after the previous film and has little to actually connect them apart from the main characters name and the general theme. If it wasn’t the same director it would be just a love letter to those films instead of a reboot.
Furiosa is a prequel that came out 9 years later.
Making a film and then a follow up 9 years later is FAR from milking a franchise.
Additionally both stories are completely new and not remakes.

- Comment on Ghostbusters Needs To Go Away, Maybe Forever | Giant Freaking Robot 3 months ago:
I haven’t seen it since it came out, so it’s hard for me to give it an honest review nowadays.
In terms of cast I don’t think you could have asked for anyone better. I think a zany ghost film might have worked. I think calling such a film a Ghostbusters reboot was a mistake. The newer Jumanji films do the same thing, create in unrelated film, slap a nostalgic title on it.
You could argue that the Ghostbusters franchise was already dead, so a reboot makes sense. However I think it’s important that a reboot still hold true to the original source. The 2016 film lacked the horror elements that made a Ghostbusters film, Ghostbusters.
- Comment on Ghostbusters Needs To Go Away, Maybe Forever | Giant Freaking Robot 3 months ago:
Strongly disagree.
I want fun movies. I want good movies. Ghostbusters are fun. The original and it’s sequel were both fun. The first was better than the second, but both were good.
Afterlife was fun. Afterlife had a lot of good moments. Yes, some were nostalgia, but there is plenty of good in that film.
Ghostbusters is comedy/horror, that’s a tough genre.
The 2016 Ghostbusters was too slapstick/funny. The actors they hired did a great job at that, but that isn’t Ghostbusters.
I haven’t seen Frozen Empire, maybe it has problems, but the crew they’ve been recruiting to take the franchise forward have been solid.
Ghostbusters has a lot of potential, if they can make something fun and pretty good I’m in.

I just hope Larry David isn’t retiring. Maybe he can just jump back into the “character” whenever he’s bored.

Me. Ok, I wasn’t asking for it, but I would see this.
Since it’s only AMC theaters I probably won’t (not that I have a strong distaste for AMC, they are just the least convenient for me.)

- Comment on What's your favorite game that you will NEVER finish? 5 months ago:
As an example, I’m done with MMOs. I played RuneScape back when it first launched (RS Classic) and continued for a while into the RS2 era and eventually I was just done. I tried WoW and a few other big games but eventually I just realized I was playing RuneScape again, and I played that already. That isn’t to say these new games weren’t different. They offered A LOT of new things, of different things, at their core I was just playing an MMO, and I’d done that already.
I’m also done with shooters. I’d say FPS, but the truth is it applies to third person as well. Again, I played a bunch over the years. CounterStrike, Battlefield 1942, Halo, and a few different Call of Duty games. I’ve dipped my toes into many over the years. If all my friends are playing, asking me directly, sure I’ll hop in. I don’t hate them, but I won’t suggest playing them. I’ve played them a million times. I’m tired of them.
Just to flip it around. I love platformers. I’ve played so many platformers. Each have such huge variety. Friends will have moved on and I’m still going for 100% completion. Even after 100% I’m looking for a leaderboard, or self-imposed challenge to keep me playing.
I’m confident some people feel about shooters the way I feel about platformers. If someone says their tired of games like BG3, I don’t get it. I could never tire of that genre. It has too many options to keep things fresh. But I know some people feel the same about shooters.
I don’t get it, but I guess I get it.

- Comment on What are the best features of Lemmy that aren't available in Reddit? 6 months ago:
This is the biggest one for me.
At some point I stopped using Reddit on the web/desktop and just started to use it on my phone/tablet. I tried different apps, but settled with RIF. Every few years I’d try different apps, but always found my way back to RIF.
Reddit did a bunch of stupid things over the years, but I could happily ignore them and continue to use RIF.
When RIF went away I had to find a new app. The official app wasn’t going to work for me. Old Reddit on the phone wasn’t going to work for me.
Luckily there are plenty of Lemmy apps. I’ve settled on Voyager (wefwef) but Boost seems fine too.
Sure, the content has changed a bit, but it’s close enough.
For me a good app is key. Lemmy has good apps. I use Lemmy.
So many apps redesign themselves and assume I’ll get used to it. In actuality they cause me to wonder, “Do I still need you?” and start looking for alternatives.
That isn’t to say that apps can’t ever redesign themselves, but so many redesigns seem to follow the latest trend and don’t demonstrate a clear understanding of their users.

It the movie sucks it won’t hurt his career at all.
- Comment on Can anyone explain "Good Burger 2" to me? why does anyone want to watch this? 7 months ago:
Nostalgia is the simple answer. I watched it last night, it wasn’t very good, but it had some funny jokes and throwback moments.
In terms of ratings, 67% is probably a bit high even for the target audience. Outside the target audience it should be much lower.
In terms of content, they stretched the skit to make the first movie and it was fine. For the sequel, they pretty much just reference things and add a little bit.
Basically if you think you’d like to see it, you’ll probably enjoy at least parts of it. If you skip it, you’re not missing anything.
- Comment on Touchscreen smartphones aren't even fun or novel anymore, they're just necessities for daily life 7 months ago:
I just bought a new phone (originally released in May 2023) for $170. I’ve used it for 3 days now and it works perfectly. My old phone lasted ~3-4 years and cost a similar price.
I stopped buying “flagship” phones years ago and it’s been great. Midrange phones are absolutely the phones people should be buying.
I also get the bells and whistles that are often missing from premium phones. I have an SD card slot for expandable storage and I have a headphone jack.
- Comment on Gargoyles Live-Action Reboot Officially in Works at Disney+ 8 months ago:
Conceptually it looks like the right people have been hired. I do hope we can get our original voice actors back, specifically Keith David. I’d love to see Frakes and other humans, but if this is a full reboot you’ll probably need to recast (but a cameo or different character for sure.)
My concern would be Disney not giving this show time to grow. While a darker “kids” show, I expect the primary audience to be much older. We don’t need to be R rated, but they should lean into that darker tone. I also wouldn’t expect this show to be a big hit, this’ll be a slow roll. They’ve given shows like Andor that freedom, but as a “new” IP Disney may be more reserved.
- Comment on Here you go, Class 8 months ago:
I know we’re shit posting but if I could get real for a moment, this is how I learned about 9/11.
TV rolls in. Whole class goes “Yay”. Teacher says, “Be quiet and watch”. Whole class goes, “Oh no, he’s grumpy”. Whole class goes, “Wait… This is live TV”. A whole world changes.
Otherwise though, TV good.
- Comment on CEOs Stay Late in Marathon Bargaining Session With WGA 9 months ago:
Oh wow! These CEOs really care and I really appreciate the extra effort they are putting in. This is what leadership is, staying late and getting the job done. I feel like I really understand where they are coming from and I know how much work they’ve been putting in. Three cheers, hip hip huzzah!
…
…
…
Ok now that we’re done with the puffery can these fuckers hurry up? These CEOs are just putting on a dance and wasting everyone’s time. They bang on the table long enough to say “we tried” and then ultimately give the union what they deserve. Yes I’m sure they’ll “win” some small concession, but ultimately they just waste everyone’s time and money.

Interesting. I looked up this show and it looks like it kept the same creator credits. I do wonder if there was some secret behind the scenes things going on, or if some other shenanigans happened (obviously if it’s supposed to be a secret, it’s hard to find.)

- Comment on 'Oppenheimer' Surpasses 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Becomes Highest-Grossing Biopic of All-Time 9 months ago:
Strong disagree. Biopics are one of my favorite genres of film (and TV). It’s interesting to reflect on how someone else experienced or interpreted events. While a biography/documentary might be more historically accurate I appreciate the more entertaining biopics as they often do a better job of conveying the emotion of their characters.
- Comment on [Spoiler Warning: Baldurs Gate 3] Karlach romance 10 months ago:
I have a similar lockout problem.
During a camp scene both Gale and Karlach (and Shadowheart) offered to spend the evening with me.
I spoke with Gale first (at random) and his spend the evening was just “show some magic” which I didn’t realize was code. Karlach made no mention of Gale but did a fist pump when I agreed. When I finally spoke with Shadowheart she mentioned that I already had plans (unless?).
Then the Gale romance scene happened and Karlach never brought it up again. Nearly everyone else in the camp gave me a romance option and Karlach and I had a nice moment after fixing her heart the second time, but I think it’s just broken.
Additionally Shadowheart has always had the romance option since it first appeared. I skipped it since we’re just homies, but I think Karlach is locked out for me.

Played for the last few hours on my new Steam Deck (the one with the big disk). Game wouldn’t load and I had to select Experimental Proton or whatever it’s called.
Once I did everything has been fine.
Playing handheld and I’ve had no issues.
The text is readable, but it is smaller than I’d like. I haven’t played with any settings so maybe I can fix that. But not an issue while playing.
I’m sure some graphics aren’t optimized or something but the game plays and I’m happy.
- Comment on ‘The Bear’ Feasts in Streaming Rankings 11 months ago:
I agree with everything you said. But also Succession is fantastic.
Both of them compete for my favorite show this year.
If you’ve already watched Succession, I feel confident you’ll be a fan of The Bear. If you’ve already watched The Bear, you really owe it to yourself to give Succession a shot. I know that makes it sound like The Bear is the better show, and maybe it is, but while being similar in many ways, they each have their own “charm”. For example “The Bear” may be happier, but that doesn’t make it a “happy” show.
