I suppose the reason I’m so forgiving of the online features, is that I don’t use them. They’re a nice little addition for sure, but I do not see them as core to the game.
I think it’s embarrassing that they’re sooooo far behind. Definitely if they’re a thing you’re expecting, it’s going to sour your view of the game.
Performance is a personal thing. You’re not alone, it’s a common complaint, I won’t deny that. I’ve played all three of those games, Kirby, Zelda & Mario but never remember having an issue. I’m sure I did, but it never stuck with me. I remember Arceus looking like an GameCube game. But I also remember completing the Pokedex 100%.
I was burned by Super Mario Party, so that franchise is dead to me. Maybe others will burn me too.
I think the Switch 2 launching with just Mario Kart was a huge mistake. No Mario. No Zelda. I can’t remember the last time that happened. Donkey Kong is coming soon, and it’s supposedly similar to Oddessy… But we’ll have to see. There are great DK games, but he’s no Mario and it’s been a while.

Oh I absolutely agree there are plenty of criticisms about the company itself and their other offerings, but the games are absolutely top tier.
Their online is miles behind, games from Smash Bros to Mario Maker to Mario Kart could all be improving with better online, but since they were terrible at online I never used them, but those games were still excellent.
A lower powered system or poorly optimized game has some frame rate dips or stuttering, but never in a way that gameplay was affected. I know people will disagree but I’ve never had an issue with it.
Yes, joycon drift is a real problem. But that’s a hardware problem. We should absolutely give Nintendo shit for hardware problems.
Suing fan projects or being aggressive about YouTube/Twitch take down, all fair. Fuck Nintendo for all that.
But all of that is different from their games being solid. I don’t blame people who choose to emulate their games, they’re awesome games.
I’ll give you that Sony might be competitive, I don’t see Xbox/Microsoft anywhere close. I think Valve and the SteamDeck are probably 4th in the race, but Valve has to actually make a game. They made great games and should continue to do so.

Nintendo gets away with it because their games rarely have a discount. An $80 game today will be $80 in a year. After several years you sometimes get a limited discount for their best selling games. A bundle or a voucher can be a small loss leader, usually if you buy one of something you buy another.
The other thing of course is that Nintendo makes absolutely top tier games. The fan base is earned. You can buy a Mario or Zelda game, knowing nothing about it, and it’s going to be good. Pokemon is the obvious exception here, the mainline games are fine, but would be nothing without the brand. (I also won’t forgive them for Super Mario Party, that was a $30 game, not $60.)
I don’t expect $80 games to go away, because as long as someone will pay it, it’s free money. But if sales slump too much in the long run I do see quick discounts, possibly even for Nintendo games.

While the company would love you to buy it at launch for $80, they’re fine if you wait for a (first party) sale.
Look at the first Outer World. At launch sold for $60. Three months post launch, $50. Six months post launch, $40. One year post launch, $30.
If this new game sells the exact same, but starts at $80, they’re ahead. Even if the $80 number scares away a lot of people, they’re ahead. Only if it scares away a shit ton of people will it be a problem.

All listed out like a that really shows how great a year we’ve had.
Severance and Andor we’re great, but I’m not counting out The Pitt. It tells an amazing and complete story in one season. I also think The Last of Us has a chance.
Not to discount The White Lotus or The Diplomat, it’s just that they’re clearly lower on the list compared to the others.
- Comment on 'Doctor Who' Needs to Go Away and Think About What It Did 2 weeks ago:
This is a great article, and it sucks because I think Ncuti Gatwa’s first series was solid and I think the second was building to great finale… But the finale just didn’t work at all.
Despite what’s been said I think Disney already decided not to renew the deal. They probably said, “if you can reach some unobtainable goal, sure, but it’s a one in a million and we’ve seen the finale.”
I can only guess that the finale was supposed to setup series 3, and with the big pause coming Gatwa wanted out in order to pursue other projects and the show runner just quickly shoved all the plans for series 3 into one episode. The rest of the series was so well planned it’s just so surprising to see such a rushed ending.

That’s fair, it’s more a world that knows that book/film exists, which is where the religion comes from.
- Comment on Damon Lindelof admits 'The Leftovers' wasn't accessible for everyone: 'Stop f---ing watching' 2 weeks ago:
Is there a “The Leftovers” controversy I’m missing?
It’s an excellent show, but if you don’t like it then yeah, stop watching. I didn’t find it controversial, but it has religious themes, which can be personal to people, and death/loss is a heavy subject.
For those that haven’t seen it the basic premise, as the article states, is that 2% if the population disappears one day. So then what happens? That’s the show.

But she won’t answer a question many viewers have: What, exactly, is Helly thinking when she looks at Gemma just before she and Mark escape? Does she feel bad for Gemma? Or is she feeling triumphant that Mark chose her?
I can’t speak for others but I thought that scene was straightforward. Helly is strong willed, but she isn’t going to feel triumphant that Mark chose her. She’s going to be glad she doesn’t have to go through whatever is next alone. Neither Mark nor Helly have any plan, but whatever it is they’re doing it together.
The fact that Helly has someone is in direct contrast to how her outie Helena has no one. Helly is ready to do it alone, because Helena would have to do it alone. She could do it alone, but she doesn’t have to.
She will feel a little bad for Gemma, but not in the moment. She will really feel more concern for Mark Scout and how Mark S’s decision will affect his relationship with his outie.
- Comment on Dexter: Resurrection | Official Trailer 2 weeks ago:
While season 4 was the peak, I think season 5 was still pretty good. I do agree it started downhill after that, but it was still entertaining. Season 8 was definitely a mess.
New Blood was also a lot of fun.
Also it’s worth watching Original Sin. If the ship has already sailed you should at least watch all the ships. Plus, like New Blood, it was fun.

This is not the way to release a show.
It’s holiday season, people are traveling and people are hanging out with different people who are in different states of watching the show.
January is the dump month, so I guess it’s a free space, but huge miss.

From the videos description,
Better than an Alamo and almost as good as propane. An all new season of #KingofTheHill drops Aug 4th on Hulu and with #HuluOnDisneyPlus.
After years working a propane job in Saudi Arabia to earn their retirement nest egg, Hank and Peggy Hill return to a changed Arlen, Texas to reconnect with old friends Dale, Boomhauer and Bill. Meanwhile, Bobby is living his dream as a chef in Dallas and enjoying his 20s with his former classmates Connie, Joseph and Chane.
What a wild direction Hank’s life took.
Also making Bobby’s former bully Chane Wassanasong his friend is interesting.

Well… I watched Slow Horses… All four seasons.
Being only 6 episodes a season it was pretty quick. I grew to really enjoy it.
Gary Oldman is excellent and season 3 Lamb definitely deserved the nomination. Season 4 was great, but for Lamb specifically he just didn’t have as many moments, so maybe he won’t be nominated this time around.
Either way, well worth the time.
- Comment on What are you watching and, what do you recommend this week? 2 weeks ago:
Slow Horses.
It’s 6 episode seasons, so it’s easy to binge. The stakes are fairly low. The things the characters are doing is very important, but everyone is chill about it. Gary Oldman is a terrible/excellent boss.
It’s a show that grows on you. I wouldn’t strongly recommend it, but it’s such a small commitment to get started, it’s worth taking a look at.

Hulu
Technically fully owned by Disney at this point.
That all being said it’s hard to actually learn anything from this data. Any statement made has a lot of open questions.
- Comment on Sydney Sweeney Teases 'Unhinged' 'Euphoria' Season Three 3 weeks ago:
It’s rumored that the show’s plot will include a time jump.
It’s the only way to move the show forward. Season 2 built to a big conclusion and that story has a big focus on Angus McCloud’s character. Sadly the actor passed away.
You could in theory recast but I just don’t think it would work.
Plus, all these young actors are 3+ years older now and playing high school students just starts to look silly.
- Comment on Who here's watched house of dragon s2? 3 weeks ago:
My biggest complaint is that it was two episodes short. If I recall correctly the show runners were told late into production that they would only have the budget for 8 episodes and not 10. Unfortunately around the same time the writers strike was happening.
So they wrote 10 episodes and they planned for 19 episodes, but they only got 8. As a result the season builds but has no payoff.
Without writers they had no way to try and adjust the season… So they just let it trickle off.
Once season 3 is out the story will even out and be fine, but we’re in the unfortunate in-between phase right now.
- Comment on Neil Druckmann Says a Cure Would Have Worked in 'The Last of Us' 3 weeks ago:
Obviously in fiction anything can happen, but I think the point is establishing how the world is built.
For example let’s look at The Walking Dead. I thought I recall, but can’t find a source, from the creator stating that one of the rules in that universe is that there will never be a cure. This idea is also explored in the first season of the show. The party shows up at a CDC facility and a scientist makes it clear that there is no cure. From that point on (or at least until I stopped watching the show) the idea of a cure never comes up again. In The Walking Dead universe, there is no cure.
In The Last of Us universe however, “The Cure” is a huge question. It drives the majority of the plot in season 1. It’s still a huge question in season 2. As viewers we’re constantly wondering, what if someone finds out Ellie is immune? If they can’t make a cure from Ellie and Joel was “right”, it’s less impactful. If we know Joel made the “right” decision for Ellie, but the “wrong” decision for society, that’s interesting, that’s impactful, that’s the story I want to see.
While I know Joel never knew the answer, I never doubted that Ellie really was/is the cure. Why? Because that’s the more interesting story. Because when Joel makes his decision, he has to know what he’s sacrificing. Joel didn’t travel across the US because he loved Ellie. He didn’t know Ellie when he met her. He did that to save humanity. But when they travel, when they grow to love and Ellie becomes his daughter. Now it’s different. Joel believed in the cure, but he was willing to sacrifice it for Ellie.

- Comment on ‘Doctor Who’ Ratings Dive, Supercharging Uncertainty About Future Of Sci-Fi Series 3 weeks ago:
No Daleks. No Cyber men.
Now maybe they’ll appear later, but it seems unlikely.
But even if they do… That’s fine?
When I watch Star Wars, I expect Jedi to show up at some point. They don’t need to 100% of the time, but that’s the universe. In Solo we get a brief tease of Maul, which flips the expectation. In Andor season 1 Luthen gifts Andor a Kyber crystal, and his ship does a lightsaber-like spin move. In Season 2 we have the Force healer. In Rogue One we have Chirrut who repeats, “I am one with the Force, the Force is with me.”
When I watch Doctor Who I expect certain things. Obviously The Doctor, a companion, the Tardis, the sonic screwdriver. I expect to see long time enemies like Daleks, Cyber men or maybe The Master. The Doctor has a mysterious past involving Gallifrey. I know when The Doctor dies, he regenerates.
Is it all a bit of a trope? Yes. Is that fine? Yes.
- Comment on ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ and ‘Citadel’ Hit Syndication for the First Time 3 weeks ago:
And that’s why I at least appreciate that they’re willing to throw money at things. Rings of Power would have been cancelled after season 1 on most services, maybe a 2nd season, but certainly cancelled after that. But Amazon? They’re in it.
Plus they can throw money at the right projects. Fallout was excellent. The Boys and the spinoffs Gen V was solid. Invincible is one of their best shows.
They’ve also been funding the more niche Vox Machina. They’ve been able to get big talent like Donald Glover and for Mr & Mrs Smith, while also keeping Phoebe Waller-Bridge around, paying her just to see what she comes up with.
Also they’re not slowing down. They’ve paid a shit ton to get the rights to James Bond. They’re funding a Warhammer 40K TV series.
They are throwing money at this until it works. It’s a big dartboard and they have a lot of darts. They’re going to hit a few big points.
But… They’re going to miss a lot too.
- Comment on ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ and ‘Citadel’ Hit Syndication for the First Time 3 weeks ago:
So it’s a puff piece but basically people don’t choose Amazon streaming. Which makes sense since it’s the worst of the streaming services.
Basically most of their users are probably Amazon Prime users and they failed to convince those users, who are already paying for the service, that it was worth using. So in an accident to recoup costs they added ads. Which of course further pushes users away. Now they’re going to sell their shows to other networks (18 months later), because Amazon streaming isn’t bringing in new users.
For what it’s worth Amazon seems like they’ll keep throwing money at the problem. And that money can result in great shows being made. They’re hoping for their water cooler must see show moment… But their brand just doesn’t work.
- Comment on ‘Doctor Who’ Ratings Dive, Supercharging Uncertainty About Future Of Sci-Fi Series 3 weeks ago:
I’m genuinely confused by this, the current season of Doctor Who has been excellent. The episodes have been memorable, I’m interested in the overarching story they’ve been building up, solid companions, and a great Doctor.
- Comment on What are you watching and, what do you recommend this week? 3 weeks ago:
It helps that, for some reason, most of the cast never hit it big(ger).
Charlie Cox did little between the end of Netflix Daredevil and his cameo in Spider-Man. Once he was in Spider-Man I’m sure he kept his schedule generally open as things ramped up for the new show.
Vincent D’Onofrio, same boat.
Jon Bernthal had a little better luck, but again basically the same boat.
- Comment on George R. R. Martin's New Announcement Has Finally Made Me Accept He's Never Finishing The Winds Of Winter 3 weeks ago:
Exactly. Imagine if season two started with Stannis’s shadow murdering Renly. Then next episode Stannis attacks Kings Landing and Rob marries Talisa. Third episode is the Red Wedding. Fourth episode is the Purple Wedding. Fifth episode is Tyrion’s trial and Oberyn’s fight. Then we end with season short with the battle at the wall and Jon dies.
That would be an action packed but ultimately terribly confusing and paced season. All those events, when spread out over several episodes and seasons are excellent and exciting moments.
The first three books (roughly first four seasons) are the end of the first act of the story. The next two books are just the start of the second act of the story. The world grew. The world expanded. A time jump was added and then removed, and that’s where the problems started. The show needed to start working towards an ending, but the story wasn’t going that way.
I think in a world where the television series was never made, George would have likely finished the series by now. It’s difficult to sit in your house and type out a story while everyone is outside your house having fun and yelling at you to come outside.
This isn’t to absolve George. He’s a professional, he should have finished, but I get it.

- Comment on Are there any plot arcs, or missed opportunities from any TV series that were abandoned that you think should've been picked up or continued? 4 weeks ago:
I know but I expected Mark S to ask what happened to his best friend. I expected a moment of hesitation or wondering from Mark Scout when he goes through the reintegration process. As the two Marks reintegrate shouldn’t they start to share thoughts and ideas? Wouldn’t one of those be Petey?
They can still bring these things up in season 3, but the name “Petey” should have been mentioned at least once in season 2.
- Comment on Are there any plot arcs, or missed opportunities from any TV series that were abandoned that you think should've been picked up or continued? 4 weeks ago:
I imagine that could still return in season 3.
The book might already be available to the innies, who were already interested in the first book. Or Ricken may be used as an intermediary/negotiator in trying to get the innies to calm down/stop rebelling/whatever they’re going to do.
Petey is the character I’m most curious about. It’s odd to me that never came up in season 2. Petey was Mark S’s best friend.
