- Comment on Sony Closes Simon Pegg & Nick Frost’s Production Outfit Stolen Picture 6 hours ago:
Deadline understands that Sony will keep the Stolen Picture brand and creative IP alive within its family of labels, but is liquidating the legal entity. No employees are impacted.
Sony took full control of Stolen Picture in 2022 after originally buying into the outfit in 2017. As part of the 2022 deal, Pegg and Frost resigned as directors and have since stepped away from day-to-day operations.
The brand “Stolen Picture” hasn’t put out a project since 2020 and it didn’t include either of those projects.
I’m not sure what they brought or what value it has.

- Comment on ‘After Midnight’ Canceled After Two Seasons On CBS; Network Will Stop Programming 12:30am Slot 2 days ago:
I enjoyed After Midnight, it has its moments, although it isn’t one that I watched with much frequency. Truthfully I don’t watch any of them on TV, it’s all on YouTube.
I think the content is there. Seth Meyers is excellent. Colbert is great. Even Kimmel is fun from time to time.
I think the challenge is shifting away from “TV at a specific time” to the Internet as a whole.
- Comment on What are some old games that are hard to revisit, because a more modern and superior version exists? 3 days ago:
Super Metroid is definitely the gold standard. Zero Mission definitely feels like it uses Super Metroid as its base. The same is also true for AM2R.
I think if you are getting into the series for the first time, Zero Mission, AM2R, Super Metroid & Metroid Fusion is the order to go in. They all share a similar set of gameplay & graphics.
I think the 3DS Metroid II remake is great, but in terms of cohesiveness, it’s going to stand out among the four games.
That being said it’s made by the same developers who will then go on to make Metroid Dread, which is probably my favorite Metroid game behind Super Metroid, which is the best.
- Comment on What are some old games that are hard to revisit, because a more modern and superior version exists? 3 days ago:
I completely agree and to I’ll add that this also applies to Metroid II. As Metroid II was on the Game Boy the game resolution is far too small to ever revisit. For a side scrolling game you can barely see what is in front of you.
Luckily the fan game AM2R, or the slightly less good but still excellent 3DS remake do for Metroid II what Zero Mission did for the original.

Sure, but we don’t really know much about Gemma. I imagine being better than Helly’s outie is an easy task, but hard to be on “Team Gemma” without really knowing her.
- Comment on What TV cancellation are you most upset by? 5 days ago:
Terriers.
Terrible name for a fun show.
Mild Terriers last episode spoiler
The last episode has the two main characters drive off in different directions, knowing they’ll probably never see each other again. It’s actually a beautiful ending, but I wish they could have reunited.
- Comment on Harley Quinn Boss Discusses DC Comedy’s Future, As Season 5 Finale Serves Up Much Closure 1 week ago:
I suspect many of DCs future projects depend on James Gunn/Peter Safran and the DCU. Even though Harley Quinn is outside of the DCU, as the head of DC Studios it’s technically under Gunn/Safran.
If Superman does well in July I expect we’ll see the series renewed. If not, it’s probably over.
I’m sure Gunn/Safran would renew it now if they could, but money is probably still a bit tight.

- Comment on "The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie" will reportedly be pulled from theaters this Wednesday 1 week ago:
There was a thread a few weeks ago discussing the decline of theatres. The one, and only, suggestion from theater owners was to have a 90 day minimum theatre time before films moved to streaming/physical media.
At the time that idea seemed silly to me. Usually if I want to see a film, it’s opening weekend I see it. Maybe the second week, but usually before the second weekend.
But this film is leaving theaters less than a week after release? I saw Mickey 17 was announced to be leaving before being in theaters for 2 weeks.
I guess I understand the complaint from theatre owners now. Maybe 90 days is too long but shit you gotta draw a line somewhere. You gotta give films a chance if you want theatres to stay open.
So many films post pandemic have their “Exclusively in theaters” taglines, but for how long?

Kano was my favorite part of the first film, glad to see him returning. Karl Urban is a much older, but I think fun looking Johnny Cage.

I think George Lucas would agree with you.
While he directed the first film, Empire and Jedi had other directors. When it came to the prequel series Lucas really tried to get someone else to direct, but everyone turned him down as the project was “too daunting”.
Lucas is best as the idea guy.

- Comment on Pierce Brosnan Says Future James Bond "Must Not Be American" 2 weeks ago:
And George Lazenby is Australian.
There are plenty of examples of Brits playing Americans, Hugh Laurie as House for example.
There are also examples, thought fewer, of Americans playing Brits, John Lithgow as Winston Churchill for example.
I agree that Bond should be a British character, but I don’t think he must be a British actor. I imagine someone who is British would have an easier time playing a British character, but if the right non-British actor came along, I’m not against casting them as Bond.
- Comment on Amazon MGM's Best Bet to Protect James Bond's Legacy: Hire Christopher Nolan 3 weeks ago:
Me. I would like a new James Bond film.
Also, what do you mean by “ground left to cover”? Action spy thriller is a whole film genre. Each film is largely standalone with a few references to each other, and when a new Bond is announced it’s a complete reset.
Plus James Bond has an infinite number of bad guys. Bad guy countries. Secret bad guy countries. Secret shadow organizations. Former agents. Inside moles. The list goes on forever.
Also the James Bond gadgets. Jetpacks. Laser watches. Cars that shoot missiles. Spy shit is cool.
James Bond is a series that could go on forever.

- Comment on Oscar-Nominated and Broke: Two directors nominated for Academy Awards shine a light on the worsening economics of indie film 3 weeks ago:
I’m glad this article offers a solution, but is it really going to solve anything?
I fully agree that a film having a short time in theatres might seem that if affects how/when I watch it, but I don’t think just lengthening a films time in theatres would really solve the problem.
For me, if I’m going to see a film I see it opening weekend 99% of the time (maybe a slight delay if there is a personal conflict.) If I’m not seeing it opening weekend, I’m happy to just wait. Sure only having to wait a month is great for me, the consumer, but if I had to wait 6 months I’m going to just wait 6 months.
The problem, as I see it, is that there is an infinite amount of things to watch. The supply is endless. This is great for me as the consumer, but a problem if you’re a supply/film creator.
Now not all supply/films are created equal. So how do you fix that problem? How do you convince me to see The Brutalist?
- Comment on Bluesky 4 weeks ago:
Yes you do? If the moderator or admin of your instance doesn’t like something, it’s gone.
Sure you could post to another instance, but the line of posting to another instance or posting to another service is a thin one.
I fully agree that Bluesky is far from the distributed haven it might claim to be, but just because it makes a decision that any Fediverse instance might have made doesn’t mean it’s over.
Bluesky has problems, but those problems are still within the realm of fixable. Fediverse alternatives may be better, but Bluesky is still fine.
- Comment on First official look at He-Man from the new "Masters of the Universe" film. 4 weeks ago:
First time I’ve heard about this.
Cast-wise I’m not familiar with the leads but the supporting cast seems good.
The writer and director have worked together a bunch, largely in animation, and released Kubo and the Two Strings which was fantastic.
This could work. My guess is He-Man fans will enjoy it and everyone else will find it meh.
- Comment on Amazon paid more than $1bn to take creative control of James Bond 5 weeks ago:
how could this possibly be a good investment?
They are currently making zero films, so no profit. (They dis make a reality game show, so not zero zero, but basically nothing.)
genuinely confused, i didn’t think this franchise still had much of a fanbase
en.wikipedia.org/…/List_of_highest-grossing_media…
It’s made about $10 Billion, similar to Jurassic Park and Dragon Ball. It’s also one of the older franchises, so years and generations of people.

Since this article ends with,
Hopefully, Disney can clarify this and assure the world it’s all deliberate. Because otherwise, a company that can afford to know and do better, hasn’t.
It’s worth saying that Marvel has denied it, thewrap.com/marvel-denies-fantastic-four-poster-a…
So there will likely be more to this story.
- Comment on What would happen if somebody kidnapped the president? 1 month ago:
Since that is a slightly older article, it also happened under Joe Biden.
It also should have happened under Trump’s first term, but he’s a whiny bitch so it didn’t.
For fun the most common cause of “incapacitated” in these cases is for a colonoscopy.
It’s also worth clarifying that the 25th Amendment in these cases isn’t automatic. The President essentially drafts a letter and then power is returned to them after.
However in the case of the President being kidnapped, the Cabinet & Vice President could also declare incapacity and the VP would take over.

Rover Dangerfield was just “What if Rodney Dangerfield was a dog?” and as I kid I loved it. I had a vague idea of who Rodney was so this was the perfect transition film for a kid. Arguably I watched his career in reverse, but because of this film I watched it.
To see the reviews on this film and that it did so poorly, no respect at all.
- Comment on Lady Gaga: 'Joker: Folie à Deux' 'Didn't Connect' with Audiences 1 month ago:
That’s one of the things that frustrated me about the film. I like musicals, but this barely qualifies as musical. This is like watching a bad episode of Glee, and again, I liked Glee.
- Comment on Crocodile Dundee | New 'Encore Cut' removes footage from original film 1 month ago:
So I’m torn.
I think a notification before the film is enough to acknowledge the mistakes of the past.
In general I am against a film being changed after the fact. Although more accurately I’m against a film being changed after the fact without making the original available.
For example when George Lucas added new scenes to Star Wars, while some were just unnecessary CGI, others like “Han Shoots First” or the introduction of Jabba in A New Hope changes the film.
Additionally we have changes to E.T. to make the guns into Walkie-Talkies, which is just silly.
Of course we also have the Extended Edition of The Lord of the Rings, which also change the film, but arguably for the better.
Also films like Blade Runner have multiple editions.
We also have the more recent “Justice League” vs “Zach Snyder’s Justice League”, which are two similar films, but also quite different.
- Comment on James Gunn explains why the events of The Suicide Squad are considered an 'imperfect memory' in the DCU 2 months ago:
Lol, you got me. Spider-Man is in the new Superman film. Confirmed.
- Comment on James Gunn explains why the events of The Suicide Squad are considered an 'imperfect memory' in the DCU 2 months ago:
I feel like you didn’t read the article and just want to be angry. That’s not even close to the answer.
The answer is James Gunn considers Creature Commandos and anything after that as canon. Creature Commandos introduced characters, Creature Commandos killed characters. Their introductions and deaths are canon. This will hold true for Superman and all future projects.
The “issue” is that The Suicide Squad was born in the former canon that was the DCEU. The story about characters like Harley Quinn are based on the existing DCEU established lore. Amanda Waller had an existing backstory. Rick Flag Jr had an existing backstory. Gunn did an excellent job weaving those stories into The Suicide Squad. He saved those characters.
But you know who he didn’t save? Deadshot. The Joker. Killer Croc. Enchantress. Those characters are fucked. Gunn was handed the keys to the DC kingdom and you’re going to say “but the Joker has to be Jared Leto and edgy”. That would be fucking stupid.
No, the answer is in Creature Commandos we go “after Project Starfish, we need a new plan”. Project Starfish was the suicide mission featured in The Suicide Squad.
We establish that in general the events of The Suicide Squad happened. Did Harley Quinn stab a giant alien starfish in the eye in the new canon. Possibly. But if James Gunn wanted to say, actually she wasn’t on that mission, that’s ok too. It’s not the direction we’re likely even headed given the plan for Batman Brave and the Bold but he’s saying he wants the freedom.
In fact, let’s talk about Peacemaker season 1. That’s an excellent show. However at the end of season 1 there is a brief cameo of The Justice League. They do not affect the plot. The joke is that they arrived too late. But we do see Jason Momoa as Aquaman. Should James Gunn be forced to continue the Aquaman story with Momoa?
No. Momoa is Lobo now and that’s an excellent choice. What about that slight inconsistency? It’s not a big deal at all. If you are super attached to canon make that Universe A and the new canon Universe B and just say we’ve left Universe A behind but Universe B is similar.
But also, do you realize how petty this all is? If James Gunn just said, “Nothing before Creature Commandos is canon” and then changed absolutely nothing about his plan, we’d all be fine. We would pickup the Creature Commandos story and go “Hey, the problems Amanda Waller is dealing with sounds pretty similar to what would have happened as a result of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker”. If you wanted to just pretend that’s the truth, that’s fine. However if you’re sick of the characters you’re following be reset, well good news, some of them aren’t.
Yes, Superman is being reset. Superman is a big fucking deal. Superman has been reset before. We had Christopher Reeve as Superman. Great Superman. But one day that story ended. Eventually we’re telling stories about a new Superman.
We had Michael Keaton as Batman. He got to play Batman twice. But then it was Val Kilmer and things got a bit cheesier. And then it was George Clooney and things got very cheesy. Did those films hold canon to each other? Not really.
Well we’ve got Cinematic Universes now. An infinitely expanding universe is tricky and complicated. Even comic books canon have had massive resets. Sometimes you get one of stories. Sometimes you get the universe. Some adaptations are faithful and some sew the characters mouth shut and give him teleporting powers.
James Gunn and Peter Safran are starting a new universe. It’s going to have some familiar things. It’s going to have even more new things. Someday we’re going to have a new Superman, but for now they’re saying this is where we’re starting. (And by starting I don’t mean this is where the universe starts, this is just where the camera picks up.)
- Comment on 'The Batman II' Heads to 2027, Warner Bros' Tom Cruise Movie In 2026 2 months ago:
It is longer than normal, but not far outside the norm. Most Batman film sequels are 3-4 years apart, so 5 is long, but just a bit longer.
Plus we got a fantastic Penguin show this year set in the same universe, so it feels more alive.
