- Comment on 'Andor' creator explains recasting major 'Star Wars' character with Benjamin Bratt 8 hours ago:
That might be on purpose. It seems like Bail doesn’t use Luthen and his network, so we’re just not seeing what Bail is up to.
The story of Andor is Andor and his connections. Luthen, Mon Mothma, etc.
The Dantooine rebel base for example, we know little about it, maybe that’s where Bail has been focusing his efforts and resources.
Of course I also want more high quality Star Wars, so I hope we get more to fill in this era in the future (and I’m sure we will).
- Comment on Black Mirror Question 6 days ago:
I will never understand the irony in Netflix releasing this episode.
I mean the hope is always that companies see it and then don’t follow. Last season we had the super focused Netflix series episode, which I think only worked because it was also on Netflix.
But also companies are short sighted sometimes. I remember when the iPhone dropped the headphone jack and Samsung had a huge marketing campaign, “We have a headphone jack!”. Then, 1 year later, they also dropped the headphone jack.
So I’d like to say society at large has learned from an episode like this. But I know at large we’re pretty stupid, greedy, etc.
Also glad you liked Eulogy. It’s the one that sticks with me the most out of the season. It can be viewed as horribly tragic and depressing, but I really think it touches well on closure. Yes, closure is painful, but it’s also therapeutic. It can lighten the burden. It’s ultimately a positive thing.
- Comment on I am sick of seeing the rich and powerful on my screen. Where are all the TV shows about normal people? 1 week ago:
What really resonated with me was watching shows like Roseanne.
The article then goes on to ignore The Connors which aired from October 2018 to April 2025.
Yes, if you ignore all of the shows about “normal people”, you’ll suddenly find no shows about “normal people”.
- Comment on 'Andor' creator explains recasting major 'Star Wars' character with Benjamin Bratt 1 week ago:
lore nerds will want some storyline that explains why Organa looks different.
I can make up a reason right now.
In Attack of the Clones it was established that a Senator may leave the Senate and have someone else act on their behalf. We saw this when Senator Amidala left Jar Jar Binks in charge. While he then has the title of Acting Senator Binks, or more commonly Senator Binks.
In Andor we have a similar situation. When Mon greets Benjamin Bratt’s character she says “Senator Organa”, but this is not Bail Organa. This is in fact a brother or cousin of Bail Organa. Mon is aware that Bail Organa is currently sick (not really, he’s doing some secret Rebel stuff, but that’s a secret), but she still greets him as Senator Organa because that is the polite and proper thing to do.
Now, you’re probably wondering, seconds after the above scene Mon’s husband Perrin says, “Bail”, which really seems like it must be Bail Organa.
We have two options here. The first is that when he said “Bail” he meant “Bayle”. I know the subtitles report differently but it’s all part of a larger scheme. Disney wants us all to think it’s “Bail Organa” but it is in fact his brother/cousin “Bayle Organa”. This is a trick so when they kill him next episode it will be a shock, only for the real Bail Organa to appear.
The second option, and more likely, is that Perrin is just being a dick. That fits his character. He calls him Bail as an insult. He knows he isn’t Bail and is just filling in, so after Mon respectfully calls him Senator Organa, he uses the false name “Bail” to mock him.
Now keep in mind this nonsense only works if Benjamin Bratt never makes another appearance… Which he probably will next week.
- Comment on 'Andor' creator explains recasting major 'Star Wars' character with Benjamin Bratt 1 week ago:
I was confident Jimmy Smits would have done anything to reprise his role.
I assume he’ll have a bigger role in the next chunk of episodes since the cameo was so small. It doesn’t make sense to give the character a wink if it isn’t the original actor.
That being said Benjamin Bratt makes for a good Bail Organa.
- Comment on Please Let the Simpsons Die: An Open Letter to Matt Groening 1 week ago:
I completely disagree.
If you don’t like the new episodes of the Simpsons then stop watching. This whole open letter is the author crying that the Simpsons isn’t as good as it used to be and that they don’t enjoy it anymore. They’re honest enough to point out that some people do enjoy it. Yes, are there fewer people that enjoy the show now than used to. Yes, the best seasons and the “golden age” are over. But honestly if you don’t enjoy the show just stop watching.
I like The Simpsons. I like the newer seasons. I laugh at the newer episodes.
- Comment on Apple TV+ is ‘worst marketer in the universe,’ says producer 1 week ago:
The issue, historically, has been access.
When it first launched you needed an Apple device to watch. Some folks may have bought an Apple TV, which is what Apple wanted, but that’s not a big audience. I know people watch things on their phone, but not 30 minute episodes. You could watch it on a computer, but if you’ve got a nice big TV it’s not happening. Yes I know you can hook things up to your TV, but it’s another point against it.
Over the years they’ve added apps to Roku and Chromecast has shifted to Google TV which is also app based (and worse, but I digress). However some of this relies on people upgrading their devices and people aren’t going to upgrade just for Apple TV.
So you can call it a 5+ year service, but really it’s only been available for 1-2 years.
But now that you’re outside the Apple bubble you’re competing against Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, HBO, etc.
Disney+ & (to a slightly lesser extent) HBO have figured this streaming market out. Every week these services offer me something new to watch. Disney+ has a weekly release of Daredevil, and by next week I’m watching Andor. HBO has a weekly release of White Lotus and two weeks later I’m watching The Last of Us.
If they can keep at it I’m sure they’re get to where they want to be. But it’s a long journey ahead and they’re really just getting started.

- Comment on Shazam director swore he'd never do another IP-based movie again after "crazy" backlash from DC fans, but Until Dawn's script was just too good to pass up: "I had to do it" 1 week ago:
I would but I don’t have the inside knowledge. For all I know the director made exactly what they intended and that was apparently terrible. Maybe they cut scenes, maybe they added unnecessary scenes, maybe there was push from the studio.
Ultimately a film is what the director creates. If the writing wasn’t good it’s up to them to figure something out how to improve it. If the producers try and force changes it’s up to the director to either make them fit or convince them otherwise.
Obviously you pick your battles and a film is a collaborative project, but the director is the captain, they guide the ship, they guide the film.
- Comment on Shazam director swore he'd never do another IP-based movie again after "crazy" backlash from DC fans, but Until Dawn's script was just too good to pass up: "I had to do it" 1 week ago:
Yeah I wasn’t even going to touch on that. AFAIK he was just a “regular dude” when this film came out. But chances are he was just hiding it. If the DCEU didn’t die I suspect the future of these films and the lead actor would be a huge problem.
- Comment on Shazam director swore he'd never do another IP-based movie again after "crazy" backlash from DC fans, but Until Dawn's script was just too good to pass up: "I had to do it" 1 week ago:
That sounds absolutely plausible.
The film also has the most egregious bit of product placement I’ve ever seen in the film, which I have to imagine is a push from the studios/finance.
For those who haven’t seen the film, the film deals with gods and other mythical creatures. One of those creatures is a unicorn. One of the characters, a young girl, loves unicorns. However these unicorns are less friendly horses and more fantasy war machines. Luckily they can be tamed by “ambrosia” aka “nectar of the gods”. So when the unicorns appear and begin to attack everyone, good or bad, the little girl tames them using… SKITTLES. And I swear a character even says “Taste the Rainbow”. Basically Skittles save the day and defeat the bad guy in the film. They are core to the story.
- Comment on Shazam director swore he'd never do another IP-based movie again after "crazy" backlash from DC fans, but Until Dawn's script was just too good to pass up: "I had to do it" 1 week ago:
At the time of its release the first Shazam film was solid and generally fit in the “good” section of the DCEU.
However by the time Shazam 2 came out it was bad and generally fit in the “bad” section of the DCEU.
I don’t think Shazam 2 was poorly directed, but the story didn’t work at all and was ultimately a mess. So with that, it’s difficult to blame anyone other than the director.
I’m glad Sandberg is taking another swing at something big because they seem like a nice person and I think they can do a good job.

- Comment on How ‘The Rehearsal’ Season 2 Raises the Volume to New Heights 2 weeks ago:
Nathan Fielder is absolutely ridiculous and I’m so glad he has HBO money.
If you’ve never watched “The Rehearsal” I highly suggest giving season 1 a watch or any episodes/clips of “Nathan For You”.
His humor is dry so I understand it might not be for everyone, but it’s important to look at what he’s doing and thinking about the ridiculousness of it all.

- Comment on Star Wars Celebration: ‘Star Wars: Visions’ Reveals Season 3 Release Date, ‘The Ninth Jedi’ Standalone Series (October 29th) 2 weeks ago:
I’ve only watched season 1, which all these episodes are from. I liked The Elder, I’m more lukewarm on The Duel (but perhaps it deserves a rewatch), but I liked The Ninth Jedi too so I’m ok with that one getting a series of its own. I probably liked it because it fit so well into the existing universe. I actually expect The Twins to be the show they would expand, but maybe that’s too similar.
Of course the fun of Visions is that you can do whatever you want. It hasn’t been high on my watch list admittedly, but I appreciate the work and trying out new things. So if we get more longer form ideas, I’ll happily watch those.
- Comment on King Of The Hill Revival Gets Hulu Release Window 2 weeks ago:
Deadline confirms that the King of the Hill revival will be released this summer on Hulu. The news was revealed as part of the announcement that the cast and crew of the fan-favorite animated show will reunite at the ATX TV Festival in May.
So we know “this summer”. The festival takes place May 29 - June 1, 2025, where I’m guessing they’ll announce the release date.
I’m guessing early July, right after the 4th since you can use that in universe to get everyone together.
- Comment on Malcom in the Middle Revival With Frankie Muniz Starts Shooting in Vancouver 2 weeks ago:
nowadays
I’m pretty sure “reunion” shows have been a thing since TV existed long enough to have reunions.
Sometimes they do the big cast get together where a random celebrity interviews them. Sometimes they do a movie. And more recently we get our limited TV show run.
It’s always fun to imagine where our favorite characters ended up.
- Comment on ‘Star Wars’ Darth Maul Animated Series Ordered By Disney+; Sam Witwer Returns To Voice Villain 2 weeks ago:
I posted something similar elsewhere, but if you’ve watched the animated shows then this is a fun story to tell. While we know a lot about Maul, this takes place (presumably) during Clone Wars & Rebels which is currently an untold story. If you watched the live action Solo film it looks like it is roughly that time period. I expect it won’t overlap in season 1, but in future seasons.

Rebels season 5, sometimes called Ahsoka season 1, was good, but was mostly just moving pieces into place.
With all the buildup from Clone Wars & Rebels I hope we get some big payoff.
Spoilers for Clone Wars, Rebels & Mando
Look at the dark saber. It’s introduced as THE thing to reunite the Mandalorian people and society. We see it go from person to person, eventually Giancarlo Esposito gets it, then Mando gets it, then there is this whole thing with Bo Katan getting it. But then it just gets destroyed. I get the idea that the dark saber is just a thing, that the real leader doesn’t need a saber. But it just fizzled. Built up over three series and multiple seasons and it just gets broken, the end? We have the World Beyond Worlds, we saw it at the end of Rebels, we saw it in Ahsoka, let’s get weird with it. Do something amazing with it. Remember Rebels when Ahsoka dies but is saved via this crazy force magic? Let’s see something like that.

- Comment on Apple replaced Mythic Quest’s series finale after the show was canceled 2 weeks ago:
That’s a hell of a misleading title, the creators of the show changed the ending,
“Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, ‘Mythic Quest’ is coming to a close,” said series executive producers Megan Ganz, David Hornsby, and Rob McElhenney. “We’re so proud of the show and the world we got to build—and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it. To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning. Because endings are hard, with Apple’s blessing we made one final update to our last episode—so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over.”

- Comment on In ‘Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord’, the Former Sith Returns (New Animated Series Announced) 2 weeks ago:
Minor Maul spoilers below.
I mean Maul has been alive in animation since 2012 when he appeared in The Clone Wars. During that time they do a good job exploring the “somehow”. Since then he has gone on to have one of the best character stories in the series.
After his appearance in The Clone Wars he disappears for a time before reappearing in Rebels.
The “disappears for a time” era seems to be when this show will take place. If you watched the live action Solo film his appearance in that film is also from this time period.
It is possible the events or characters from Solo will appear in this series, depending how long the series runs for.

- Comment on Daredevil: Born Again Showrunner Officially Announces Season 2 Premiere Date for March 2026 3 weeks ago:
Sure, but the quality was wildly different back then.
As an example I’ve been rewatching Star Trek: The Next Generation (like a typical Lemmy user) and then reading on the Star Trek Memory Alpha wiki about the behind the scenes for each episode. First off, with 25 or so episode seasons, you get some episodes that just aren’t as good. When you then go and read the behind the scenes you realize the script has a last minute rewrite or an acknowledgement that the A plot was weak, but the B plot really told a nice story. Or my favorite, from everyone’s favorite episode featuring Picard and his flute, the writers reflect and go “Oh wow, that probably dramatically changes who Picard is as a person” but next episode is just a regular episode, all well.
Now I say all that because let’s look at Daredevil: Born Again. I saw a post over on Reddit that listed all the episodes IMDB ratings (prior to the finale). Guess which episode scored the lowest? An episode where Daredevil foils a bank robbery. It was largely a standalone episode. It’s a good episode. But because it wasn’t focused on the deep narrative it lost points in the ratings.
Let me talk about another show, High Potential. In short it’s a police procedural, so every episode is about solving the case. It’s a fine show, if it gets cancelled I won’t be surprised, but if not I’ll probably watch season two. Anyway at the end of the first episode our main character is talking to the police and says, “I need to investigate my backstory, I have to know what happened to my husband.” And honestly, I want to know too. That’s an interesting story. Except, we don’t have time for that now. So the rest of the season just goes on until the season finale. Now, in the season finale we get… a reminder that this backstory exists and a tiny nugget of information. Tune in for season two. That’s just how some shows are written. We got more episodes, but we gotta stretch things out.
When it comes to superheroes, if you want 20+ episodes, The CW has plenty for you to choose from. You can make a superhero show on a lower budget with more episodes. Those shows aren’t bad, but they are different.
So yes. I wish seasons were 20+ episodes. But really what I want is quality. Daredevil: Born Again season 1 has some of that quality I wanted. It starts strong and it ends strong. The middle needs some work. Luckily they already figured that out, that’s why season 1 got a makeover and why I’m excited for season 2.
- Comment on Andor Season 2 Had to Recast Some Rogue One Roles 3 weeks ago:
Some episodes “changed dramatically” because of this, he said, and in the case of at least one legacy character from the beginning of Rogue One—as well as “a couple people in we wanted to have in Yavin”—that undisclosed role will be played by a different actor.
I’m guessing “Tivik” aka the guy Andor kills at the start of Rogue One. I’m guessing that character gets a bit more backstory during the final arc of the show.
I’m also guessing the Yavin character is “General Dodonna” aka old man with big white beard. Previously played by Ian McElhinney in Rogue One, which was already a recast. I pick him because he’s the only recognizable character on Yavin.
Also I do expect Jimmy Smits to show up as Bail Organa at some point. I expect he’ll achieve something “impossible” and he’ll comment on how strong/resourceful his family is. We won’t see Leia because I think that lessens her impact/surprise arrival in Rogue One, but it will be a clear nod.
