During the opening title sequence they definitely snuck in a quick “Part One”.

I mean Blade Running 2049 is the rare lone exception to being a good sequel to a movie that didn’t need a sequel.
Maybe someday another film will achieve what it did, so I gotta keep hoping, but I know it isn’t likely.

- There was this part in the Emerald City sequence where these two women appeared on screen, and the audience cheered. I’m not familiar with the musical, so I’m assuming they are the actresses from the original.
Lol, yes. It was Kristin Chenoweth who played Glinda and Idina Menzel who played Elphaba. Idina also did a quick “ah-ahhhh”, which is the final note sung in the film, which was a fun little “spoiler”. (Idina also plays Elsa, so if it sounded like Frozen, that’s why.)
- The setting of Oz, with all of its magic and whimsy, was so…inspiring. The songs, the costumes, and in general the vibes…whatever this is called, I need more of this in my life.
Steampunk, sorta? They definitely make everything more colorful, almost neon in a way.
I actually missed the first few minutes of the movie, but I made it just in time for the opening number and the title card.
I think all you missed was the setup that the Wicked Witch had been killed by water, as reported by Glinda. The rest of the opening explains in more detail, so plot wise not much missed, but the tone is one of sadness.
Glinda was such an unlikeable character at first, but I guess that was intentional to show her character development
You got it exactly. Both Glinda and Elphaba grow, specifically due to each other. There is a particular line discussing each of them “not having a care in the world” and the other realizing that no, they really do care.
My only complaint is that it felt too long
It’s funny they didn’t add too much from the Broadway show and yet the whole story will end up being double in length. However adding a quick scene here, an extra minute there and it quickly adds up.
As someone who complained about them splitting the movie up into two parts, I get it now. They really gave scenes time to breathe. You still could bring the runtime down, but once you hit 3 hours, it’s either trim or breathe, and I think they made the right choice.
The second film will likely be “worse”, but will have the advantage of tying up the loose plot lines, so it’ll even out.

Since I didn’t see it listed yet, fear of change.
Some folks are just fearful of change.
Rarely is a change proposal black and white. We can show you good data to support the change. We can look at it from a reputable source. We can look at how the change affected others. We can agree it’s most likely a good change.
But sometimes we fear it.
What if we’re wrong?

This post certainly relates to gaming, which to me means as currently worded fits rule #1.
- Comment on If Open Source is so great... 4 weeks ago:
Voyager for Lemmy is some seriously gourmet shit.
But seriously the answer is usually that the big company is trying to apply to ALL USERS and usually only pleases a subset or none of those users.
Voyager isn’t for you? That’s fine, Lemmy has a nice API and you can build whatever you like. Lemmy is also open so if that API isn’t nice you can provide suggestions and fixes.
I’m not saying it’s perfect, but it’s a pretty good place to be.
Look at early Twitter or formerly Reddit. A nice API. Tons of fantastic clients. Open source is the best, but even just “open” is a fantastic first step.
- Comment on According to the Wall Street Journal, "Wicked" Parts One and Two cost $320 million ($160 million per film). Both parts were shot back-to-back. 4 weeks ago:
That’s a wild stance.
The musical premiered in 2003 and has been wildly successful. It’s the third highest grossing musical behind The Lion King, which was already and has since become a film again, as well as Phantom of the Opera which had a film made several years back.
This film was always going to be made. Musical films have an iffy track record. Some do great, some do terrible, few are just sorta in the middle.
You can call it a cash grab if you want but even that seems ridiculous. It’s a film that was always going to be made someday, it’s been 20+ years since the musical premiered, and they’ve spent a good amount of money on it. The only point you have in favor of it being a cash grab is the fact that it’s a two parter. But that’s not a cash grab it’s just greed.
As for Gladiator 2… I have no idea how that relates to this film.
- Comment on New looks at Scarlett Johansson in Jurassic World Rebirth and Mason Thames as Hiccup for How to Train Your Dragon finally arrive 5 weeks ago:
Scarlett could be in, and I mean this literally, any film she wants to be in. Why would she pick the 7th film in the franchise? Obviously it’s easy money, so I guess that’s the answer, but it’s such a weird choice.
Dinosaurs are cool, so I guess.
- Comment on “Star Trek Origin” Movie Reportedly Headed To Greenlight For Production Start In Early 2025 5 weeks ago:
Looking around online, further rumors seem to lean towards it being a Federation origin film.
That would put us in ENT era, but I don’t see them following the existing canon. Maybe following a non-Enterprise ship to recruit an early but non-founding planet. The origin in this case being about how the Federation first expanded.
The other option could be picking up right after First Contact. How mankind adapts to learning about the Vulcans.
I just don’t see either of those films getting greenlit.

Which is sorta the problem with speculation in these threads. We can say “Trump said X”, but really his decisions are based on the number of hamburgers he had that afternoon or which voice whispered in his ear last. We only have wild speculation.

Like, how the fuck is this even a close election?
Accelerationism. That’s how I… understand? interpret? rationalize? it.
If you think things are shit, which is an understandable view depending on the “things”, and you don’t see that changing, you just say “fuck it”. Now if someone calls your candidate “crazy” or “unhinged” you just go, “Of course, that’s what I want”.
Add to that, no one who supports accelerationism thinks it will affect them. A crazy new world will fix their world and only hurt the “bad people”.
And I say all this knowing that it doesn’t really make sense.

- Comment on How long do you think we'll keep seeing "formerly Twitter"? 1 month ago:
Comcast introduced the “Xfinity” branding in 2010. I still call refer to it as “Comcast”. Any conversation I have where an ISP comes up, the word “Comcast” is used. If someone says “Xfinity”, they often follow it up with “you know, Comcast”.
Now that’s a VERY clear brand change.
The name “X” is a VERY confusing brand change. It will likely be called Twitter forever. In fact at some point Musk will sell or give up on “X” and I guarantee within a year the new owner will change the name back to Twitter.

I always knew Sakurai worked hard to deliver high quality games, but after watching this video, it’s insane.

Absolutely wild.
- Comment on [Discussion] Someone should have gotten sued over Kangaroo Jack for deceiving trailer 2 months ago:
Jarhead, staring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jamie Foxx.
The trailers for the film pitch a story about Gyllenhaal being a young soldier learning the harsh realities of war from tough superior officer Jamie Foxx. The trailer was full of explosions and gunfire, set to the tune of Kanye West’s (2005 era, so peak Kanye) song Jesus Walks. I was expecting something like a Black Hawk Down, or maybe even a poor man’s Saving Private Ryan.
Instead the film is about Gyllenhaal wacking off in a porta potty. Or to be more generous, “Roger Ebert gave the movie three-and-a-half out of four stars, crediting it for its unique portrayal of Gulf War Marines who battled boredom and a sense of isolation rather than enemy combatants.”
Honestly that’s a good story to tell. You can argue that the trailer was designed to be misleading to show “real” war. The problem is when you pitch an action film, I want an action film.
On a related note the film had two direct to DVD sequels, both of which are just generic action war films.
- Comment on Amazon doesn’t regret giant Phoebe Waller-Bridge deal — but is moving to a ‘very performance-based model’ 2 months ago:
I mean that’s just the announced projects.
I’m sure they got something out of her when it comes to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, even if she left he to creating differences. Amazon already has her locked down, giving the freedom to Donald Glover probably makes them both happy.
Tomb Raider they obviously see as a long term investment, so if that is moving along at a pace they’re happy with, that might be ok.
In terms of pure speculation she worked on Bond 25, No Time to Die, and Amazon now owns MGN studios and James Bond. It’s possible she’s also working on future installments of that franchise.
There is also of course whatever original stuff she might be working on.
I agree at face value at this time, it seems like a poor investment. But they’ve renewed the deal at least once, so it must be work somewhat. (Or Amazon are fools, which is a possibility, but time will tell.)
- Comment on Home Depot Orders Corporate Staff to Take 8-Hour Retail Shifts 2 months ago:
I think that’s a possibility, but I don’t think it’s a guarantee.
In terms of risk I think you’re right, no one is going to actively risk their job. However just working with someone you’re going to pick up a few things. It can start as simple as some internal application being set up weirdly.
To find the real long term problems and fixes, that will take time. Time to build that trust.
I also agree that if everyone is just going to the same Home Depot that’s going to bias things heavily and probably result in poorer feedback.
- Comment on Home Depot Orders Corporate Staff to Take 8-Hour Retail Shifts 2 months ago:
It definitely will take time for it to work, and it will depend on company culture (which Home Depot may have a terrible one, in which case even more time).
I do think it’s a good idea, but it’s got to be treated as a learning opportunity and not an opportunity for punishment.
If the companies serious, it’ll be helpful, if not… well then you’re right.

He did, he passed away in April 2013, Thor 2 came out in November 2013.
Which is also what makes this list silly. The man died 10+ years ago, which means he saw The Avengers and nothing that came after it. That’s core superhero time, a lot of which were good, but plenty of which were bad, very bad.
