Warner Brothers Discovery.

Amazon

Hulu
Technically fully owned by Disney at this point.
That all being said it’s hard to actually learn anything from this data. Any statement made has a lot of open questions.
- Comment on Sydney Sweeney Teases 'Unhinged' 'Euphoria' Season Three 3 days ago:
It’s rumored that the show’s plot will include a time jump.
It’s the only way to move the show forward. Season 2 built to a big conclusion and that story has a big focus on Angus McCloud’s character. Sadly the actor passed away.
You could in theory recast but I just don’t think it would work.
Plus, all these young actors are 3+ years older now and playing high school students just starts to look silly.
- Comment on Who here's watched house of dragon s2? 3 days ago:
My biggest complaint is that it was two episodes short. If I recall correctly the show runners were told late into production that they would only have the budget for 8 episodes and not 10. Unfortunately around the same time the writers strike was happening.
So they wrote 10 episodes and they planned for 19 episodes, but they only got 8. As a result the season builds but has no payoff.
Without writers they had no way to try and adjust the season… So they just let it trickle off.
Once season 3 is out the story will even out and be fine, but we’re in the unfortunate in-between phase right now.
- Comment on Neil Druckmann Says a Cure Would Have Worked in 'The Last of Us' 4 days ago:
Obviously in fiction anything can happen, but I think the point is establishing how the world is built.
For example let’s look at The Walking Dead. I thought I recall, but can’t find a source, from the creator stating that one of the rules in that universe is that there will never be a cure. This idea is also explored in the first season of the show. The party shows up at a CDC facility and a scientist makes it clear that there is no cure. From that point on (or at least until I stopped watching the show) the idea of a cure never comes up again. In The Walking Dead universe, there is no cure.
In The Last of Us universe however, “The Cure” is a huge question. It drives the majority of the plot in season 1. It’s still a huge question in season 2. As viewers we’re constantly wondering, what if someone finds out Ellie is immune? If they can’t make a cure from Ellie and Joel was “right”, it’s less impactful. If we know Joel made the “right” decision for Ellie, but the “wrong” decision for society, that’s interesting, that’s impactful, that’s the story I want to see.
While I know Joel never knew the answer, I never doubted that Ellie really was/is the cure. Why? Because that’s the more interesting story. Because when Joel makes his decision, he has to know what he’s sacrificing. Joel didn’t travel across the US because he loved Ellie. He didn’t know Ellie when he met her. He did that to save humanity. But when they travel, when they grow to love and Ellie becomes his daughter. Now it’s different. Joel believed in the cure, but he was willing to sacrifice it for Ellie.

- Comment on ‘Doctor Who’ Ratings Dive, Supercharging Uncertainty About Future Of Sci-Fi Series 4 days ago:
No Daleks. No Cyber men.
Now maybe they’ll appear later, but it seems unlikely.
But even if they do… That’s fine?
When I watch Star Wars, I expect Jedi to show up at some point. They don’t need to 100% of the time, but that’s the universe. In Solo we get a brief tease of Maul, which flips the expectation. In Andor season 1 Luthen gifts Andor a Kyber crystal, and his ship does a lightsaber-like spin move. In Season 2 we have the Force healer. In Rogue One we have Chirrut who repeats, “I am one with the Force, the Force is with me.”
When I watch Doctor Who I expect certain things. Obviously The Doctor, a companion, the Tardis, the sonic screwdriver. I expect to see long time enemies like Daleks, Cyber men or maybe The Master. The Doctor has a mysterious past involving Gallifrey. I know when The Doctor dies, he regenerates.
Is it all a bit of a trope? Yes. Is that fine? Yes.
- Comment on ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ and ‘Citadel’ Hit Syndication for the First Time 5 days ago:
And that’s why I at least appreciate that they’re willing to throw money at things. Rings of Power would have been cancelled after season 1 on most services, maybe a 2nd season, but certainly cancelled after that. But Amazon? They’re in it.
Plus they can throw money at the right projects. Fallout was excellent. The Boys and the spinoffs Gen V was solid. Invincible is one of their best shows.
They’ve also been funding the more niche Vox Machina. They’ve been able to get big talent like Donald Glover and for Mr & Mrs Smith, while also keeping Phoebe Waller-Bridge around, paying her just to see what she comes up with.
Also they’re not slowing down. They’ve paid a shit ton to get the rights to James Bond. They’re funding a Warhammer 40K TV series.
They are throwing money at this until it works. It’s a big dartboard and they have a lot of darts. They’re going to hit a few big points.
But… They’re going to miss a lot too.
- Comment on ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ and ‘Citadel’ Hit Syndication for the First Time 6 days ago:
So it’s a puff piece but basically people don’t choose Amazon streaming. Which makes sense since it’s the worst of the streaming services.
Basically most of their users are probably Amazon Prime users and they failed to convince those users, who are already paying for the service, that it was worth using. So in an accident to recoup costs they added ads. Which of course further pushes users away. Now they’re going to sell their shows to other networks (18 months later), because Amazon streaming isn’t bringing in new users.
For what it’s worth Amazon seems like they’ll keep throwing money at the problem. And that money can result in great shows being made. They’re hoping for their water cooler must see show moment… But their brand just doesn’t work.
- Comment on ‘Doctor Who’ Ratings Dive, Supercharging Uncertainty About Future Of Sci-Fi Series 6 days ago:
I’m genuinely confused by this, the current season of Doctor Who has been excellent. The episodes have been memorable, I’m interested in the overarching story they’ve been building up, solid companions, and a great Doctor.
- Comment on What are you watching and, what do you recommend this week? 6 days ago:
It helps that, for some reason, most of the cast never hit it big(ger).
Charlie Cox did little between the end of Netflix Daredevil and his cameo in Spider-Man. Once he was in Spider-Man I’m sure he kept his schedule generally open as things ramped up for the new show.
Vincent D’Onofrio, same boat.
Jon Bernthal had a little better luck, but again basically the same boat.
- Comment on George R. R. Martin's New Announcement Has Finally Made Me Accept He's Never Finishing The Winds Of Winter 6 days ago:
Exactly. Imagine if season two started with Stannis’s shadow murdering Renly. Then next episode Stannis attacks Kings Landing and Rob marries Talisa. Third episode is the Red Wedding. Fourth episode is the Purple Wedding. Fifth episode is Tyrion’s trial and Oberyn’s fight. Then we end with season short with the battle at the wall and Jon dies.
That would be an action packed but ultimately terribly confusing and paced season. All those events, when spread out over several episodes and seasons are excellent and exciting moments.
The first three books (roughly first four seasons) are the end of the first act of the story. The next two books are just the start of the second act of the story. The world grew. The world expanded. A time jump was added and then removed, and that’s where the problems started. The show needed to start working towards an ending, but the story wasn’t going that way.
I think in a world where the television series was never made, George would have likely finished the series by now. It’s difficult to sit in your house and type out a story while everyone is outside your house having fun and yelling at you to come outside.
This isn’t to absolve George. He’s a professional, he should have finished, but I get it.

- Comment on Are there any plot arcs, or missed opportunities from any TV series that were abandoned that you think should've been picked up or continued? 1 week ago:
I know but I expected Mark S to ask what happened to his best friend. I expected a moment of hesitation or wondering from Mark Scout when he goes through the reintegration process. As the two Marks reintegrate shouldn’t they start to share thoughts and ideas? Wouldn’t one of those be Petey?
They can still bring these things up in season 3, but the name “Petey” should have been mentioned at least once in season 2.
- Comment on Are there any plot arcs, or missed opportunities from any TV series that were abandoned that you think should've been picked up or continued? 1 week ago:
I imagine that could still return in season 3.
The book might already be available to the innies, who were already interested in the first book. Or Ricken may be used as an intermediary/negotiator in trying to get the innies to calm down/stop rebelling/whatever they’re going to do.
Petey is the character I’m most curious about. It’s odd to me that never came up in season 2. Petey was Mark S’s best friend.

- Comment on Elle Fanning Cast as Young Effie Trinket in Upcoming ‘Hunger Games’ Prequel 1 week ago:
Elle Fanning looks like a good choice to play a young Effie Trinket.
I haven’t read any of the books, but I’ve seen all the films to date. My view of Effie was one of someone who was a bit of a failure. I don’t think it’s her fault, although it could be, more just always on the outside of the in-group. She worked her way up but the best she could do was District 12. For her it’s everything, but to everyone else it’s a joke.
Which is to say I think she could have an interesting story, but not one that can be told the same time as Haymitch. I get more of a fan service vibe vs this is the right time to tell her story vibe.
I’m not looking for spoilers, but curious to know what others think.

- Comment on ‘The Penguin’ Emmy Submissions: Colin Farrell & Cristin Milioti Up For Lead Actor/Actress; Rhenzy Feliz & Deirdre O’Connell For Supporting 1 week ago:
I’ve actually never seen Horses, I just know he was nominated last time and Gary Oldman is always fantastic.
I would be ecstatic is Noah Wyle and/or The Pitt in general swept. I went into that show with tempered expectations and was just blown away.
Adam Scott is great but look who he’s up against. There is just no way. Even within Severance he’s the runner up. John Turturro beats him. Christopher Walken beats him. Honestly I think even Zach Cherry and Tramell Tillman beat him. The best Adam Scott scenes are him playing off Britt Lower or Dichen Lachman. The only scene that might work is the innie vs outie conversation, but even that isn’t beating any of the lead actors in other shows. I think Adam Scott is great, but no way is he winning. (@ me if I’m wrong in a few months.)
But! I stand by Pedro.

For lead actress in a Drama series…
I think Britt Lower in Severance is a clear winner. I’m not even sure there is a close second choice, which sucks for Cristin Milioti.

For lead actor in a Drama I’m guessing,
- Colin Farrell in The Penguin
- Pedro Pascal in The Last of Us
- Noah Wyle in The Pitt
- Adam Scott in Severance
- Gary Oldman in Slow Horses
- Walton Goggins in The White Lotus
I think Colin could win… But daddy Pedro probably takes it.

- Comment on The Last of Us will most likely last 4 seasons 1 week ago:
So I haven’t played the games and don’t know where the story is heading, but one key difference is that the creator of game story is heavily involved in the TV series. For Game of Thrones George RR Martin was also heavily involved in the earlier seasons, only really departing after several major changes over several seasons.
Additionally, as I understand, each Last of Us game tells a complete story. So unlike Game of Thrones which was constantly building, the Last of Us ends. Not to say someone couldn’t write more story, but the main story reaches an ending.
I think if the series tries to stretch faaaaar beyond the games, you might be right. Of course maybe the story for Last of Us 3 already exists, so who knows.
- Comment on What are some of your unpopular opinions, hot takes about series, streaming services, the wider industry etc? 1 week ago:
I do like small chunks. I think 2 episode premiere plus a 2 episode finale is great. I think Andor did an excellent job with mini movies every week. I’m happy different shows experiment. Overall as long as we have a week to week momentum, I’m in.
- Comment on What are some of your unpopular opinions, hot takes about series, streaming services, the wider industry etc? 1 week ago:
I don’t think waiting for a show to completely release and then bingeing it, is the best experience for watching streaming TV series.
I think talking about a show “around the water cooler” makes a show generally more enjoyable. The “water cooler” can be both in person, friends or coworkers, or just online.
I do think some shows, typically “bad” shows, using this method is fine. Since you can just skip/speed through a bad episode and just remember the good stuff. As an example Star Trek Discovery is a perfectly OK show. A solid, “Yeah, it’s not so bad.” Watching it week to week is generally a bore, but speed running it makes it worth it.
- Comment on What are some of your unpopular opinions, hot takes about series, streaming services, the wider industry etc? 1 week ago:
They do touch on it in Mandalorian season 3, episode 6 (“Chapter 22”). Although I don’t think they come to any conclusion that resolves any of the ethical implications.
K2SO also has an interesting line where he mentions being aware of events when he was under the Empires control.
Of course the real character of interest in this conversation is C3PO. His mind is wiped at the end of Revenge of the Sith and it’s viewed as a joke, but really only happens to explain why he knows nothing by the events of A New Hope.
They also “kill” him in Rise of Skywalker and try to make it a touching moment, but then just revive him again for laughs.
So for characters like C3PO I 100% agree. (Although he is comic relief, so maybe he’s a poor choice to base ethics on.)
- Comment on Bingeing, Weekly, or Batches? Is There a Right Way to Roll Out a Series on Streaming? 1 week ago:
Weekly with batches seems to be the best.
Two-three episodes premiere, weekly episode release, two-three episode finale.
The Netflix method of splitting the season into two binges a month apart is the worst method. As the article notes the last season of Stranger Things did almost everything, a month or so delay, then the finale. That sucked and took a lot of wind out of the sails. They plan to do a similar thing with the finale season which is a mistake.
Disney+ has this right so far. Drop a few at once, next week drop a few more. Andor did it in three episode groups. Daredevil did smaller groups. Spider-Man did small groups. It’s the best way.
If you want to drop it all at once, I’m in for that too, but I suspect that method is slowly going away.
Weekly releases is the “standard” and I’m good with that as long as it’s actually weekly. Some shows that air on “regular TV” still have random skip weeks for sweeps or whatever stupid reason exists. I hate when an episode just isn’t airing. I’m prepared for weekly, be weekly.
- Comment on 'The Simpsons' announces new Milhouse voice actor following Pamela Hayden's exit 1 week ago:
That’s what I’d prefer and that’s how they (seemingly) did it with Jimbo Jones. Mo Collins replaced Pamela Hayden, he had a small but significant role in the episode with a handful of lines. Done & done.
Giving the new voice actor a single line as older Milhouse seems weird.
Ultimately it’s going to be fine, but just weird.
- Comment on Official Poster for ‘Wicked: For Good’ 1 week ago:
They did an excellent job with the first half. I was against splitting the film, but I can’t see any fault with what they ended up creating.
Of course the second half is the weaker half of the story. Not bad, just weaker, less iconic music. Curious to see if they make any changes or additions.
