The absence of self-awareness there is astounding
- Comment on Windows 7 and 8 now dead for gaming, as new Steam update pulls support 4 days ago:
This is one of the things, that’s not only a colossal amount of effort to maintain, but also a colossal waste of money. Backporting security is expensive. Backporting features to an old is is even more costly. With the W7 platform shrinking into obscurity, it just doesn’t make sense
- Comment on Skyrim Is 13 Years Old, But Elder Scrolls 6 Is Nowhere in Sight While Bethesda’s First Four Games Took Only 12 Years 5 days ago:
This is, more than likely, exactly what will end up happening.
They know Creation Engine is not fit for the task. They know the writing is stale and uninspired. They know that it’ll more than likely be aimed towards mainstream success, rather than being a good rpg, making it even more simplified.
I really hope i’m wrong, but I’m not holding my breath for TES6 anymore
- Comment on Life Is Strange: Double Exposure's Cat DLC Is, In Fact, The Worst 6 days ago:
I really cant wait to get Space Age. All the new content looks really dope
- Comment on Life Is Strange: Double Exposure's Cat DLC Is, In Fact, The Worst 1 week ago:
That is objectively a false statement.
Phantom Liberty is an expansion. Shadow of the Erdtree is an expansion. Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isles are expansions. Echoes of the Eye is an expansion. Bad Company: Vietnam is an expansion. All of these amount to a third, to a half of the total game content. We used to buy them, and will continue buying them, because they add absolutely insane value to what you already really liked.
“Exclusive cat content” that can only be obtained through a 30$ upgrade, and includes 3 new costumes, and whatever the hell cat content is, is dlc. This adds nothing of value for us, but lines the pockets of the studio shareholders quite substantially.
Just because the large players in the industry are complicit, it doesn’t change history, and certainly it doesn’t change the vocabulary.

I hated it back then too. I refused to buy it, until they released the full thing
- Comment on Warcraft II: Remastered internal alpha spotted, hinting at an announcement soon – WGB 1 week ago:
If they block access to the originals, and also release the remaster in a miserable state, like what happened with 3R, they can keep it

I miss when we were able to have a single price tag, pay the price, and get a complete game, at launch date
- Comment on do you think lemmy will ever be popular? 1 week ago:
I don’t want it to be popular. I want to have a good conversation, in the communities i choose to participate in, and that’s exactly what I found
- Comment on What do you like/dislike about lemmy? 1 week ago:
A few front-end do, yeah. I’m talking about native support
- Comment on What do you like/dislike about lemmy? 2 weeks ago:
I genuinely cannot express how much it annoys me that I cannot have a blocklist for keywords.
Most of the things I read are from my subscribed communities, which i’m very happy about generally, however given the overall state of life today, half of the posts in completely unrelated communities end up being one of the following:
- Twitter CEO
- Hate speech in US politics
- AI propaganda for some pump and dump quick money
I really just don’t want to see any of those things

I’d always take a release that’s done right, over something rushed, broken, and something that will leave a poor first impression.
- Comment on What's the point of a long-distance friendship? 2 weeks ago:
Some of my closest friendships are people I’ve either never seen, or only got to meet a couple times. It’s not like living far away makes them worse friends.
You never know what kind of situation you’ll end up in. One time my transfer flights got messed up, and I was left stranded in a random airport for almost a day. I ended up asking around, and one of those long-distance friends drove hours to pick me up, get me some food, and let me get rest too.
Of course I’d love for them to live closer, so we can see each other regularly, but i’ll take what I can have

- Comment on Why are people impressed with SpaceX? 4 weeks ago:
I hate Elon just as much as the next guy, but pretending that this wasn’t a marvel of engineering is really disingenuous. People with intelligence beyond my comprehension made that a reality, and just because the company had his face on it, it doesn’t make it any less impressive

With games like Metaphor, or the ocean of brilliant indie games out there, selling a 70€ objectively downgraded remaster is an insult at best

- Comment on Starfield's first DLC is one of the worst Bethesda and DLCs of all time 1 month ago:
I never found that to be an issue, personally. It’s not as satisfying, as it is in other games, but i enjoyed it enough
- Comment on Starfield's first DLC is one of the worst Bethesda and DLCs of all time 1 month ago:
It’s not a review bomb if it’s fully deserved. If you make a bad product, you deserve a bad review, and maybe Bethesda should have thought about that ahead of time
- Comment on Starfield's first DLC is one of the worst Bethesda and DLCs of all time 1 month ago:
Post-2.0 Cyberpunk is one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had in a long time. You can tell it’s a product of effort, and love for the project. They have taken in a considerable amount of feedback from pre-1.5.
Meanwhile, Starfield is a complete miss in just about every way imaginable, and the expansion has followed through the same footsteps. On top of that, the studio actively gaslit people who expressed disapproval, even when it was constructive criticism.
- Comment on PlayStation product manager says ads being shown was just a bug 1 month ago:
I don’t understand how giant corporations repeatedly get away with treating their customers like they’re completely fucking stupid.
Some manager purposefully ordered the engineers to put the ads there. That’s how they ended up there
- Comment on Life is Strange: Double Exposure - TGS2024 Trailer 1 month ago:
LiS2 is definitely their worst game yet. It was just plain not as interesting as the rest, and it’s the only LiS where your main character isn’t the one with the powers. Plus horrible things keep happening to them, so it’s just depressing.
On the other hand, I really loved True Colors. I thought it was really damn nice, but unfortunately you can tell something went wrong, because it was painfully short. The entire game happens in a single tiny location, leaving you wishing for more, and it never arrived.
Ultimately I’m more excited about Lost Records these days. Still hope Double Exposure ends up being good, but LiS as a series lost its soul over time

- Comment on Grasshopper CEO Suda51 says people ‘care too much’ about Metacritic scores 2 months ago:
In 99% of the situations, i couldn’t care less what the metacritic score is. Reviewers can be paid, publications can be biased and/or tired, and in general, a lot of the scores don’t actually represent how real players feel.
This is especially obvious, when reviewing longer games, or specifically MMOs. You cannot rank that after playing for 10 hours.
My first stop for reviews is always my friends. Based on their general recommendations, i frequently find incredibly fun games, that are otherwise unimpressive at first glance

The point is that they’re not getting anything from me. I’d would much rather spend that extra dollar on a really good indie game.
On the topic of which, i’ve finished Tunic today, and it’s been absolutely excellent. Strongly recommended
