they just don’t know that radio waves don’t travel through air but through space
does this mean radio waves can go to mars? if so, why don’t we ride them to mars?

you could also hook into the router and wireless card of the computer to make each of them turn on the corresponding leaf blower whenever they’re sending something. of course you’d probably have to implement some kind of queuing system so only one blower is active at a time, but it will all be worth it for the speed gains

i think there are two different meanings of truth here, and it sounds like one of them might be referring to aletheia. from the wikipedia page:
Heidegger gave an etymological analysis of aletheia and drew out an understanding of the term as “unconcealedness”.[6] Thus, aletheia is distinct from conceptions of truth understood as statements which accurately describe a state of affairs (correspondence), or statements which fit properly into a system taken as a whole (coherence). Instead, Heidegger focused on the elucidation of how an ontological “world” is disclosed, or opened up, in which things are made intelligible for human beings in the first place, as part of a holistically structured background of meaning.

huge fan of blackboard bold. i can already see the ℂ in my mind. i feel like its vastly underutilized in the literature given how insanely cool all the letters look. same thing with the \mathfrak letters. they’re wheeled out of storage whenever it’s time to talk about ideals and then discarded immediately afterwards. its a shame. they deserve better.

i wish it was more common to also indicate the precedence of a percentage increase, so that it’s easier to know if i’m dealing with (x + y ) * z or x + (y * z). although that’s admittedly a lot harder to communicate.

- Comment on *MATHS 2 weeks ago:
this seems like as good a place as any to mention the etymology of the word mathematics. according to wikipedia,
The word mathematics comes from the Ancient Greek word máthēma (μάθημα), meaning ‘something learned, knowledge, mathematics’, and the derived expression mathēmatikḗ tékhnē (μαθηματικὴ τέχνη), meaning ‘mathematical science’.
so basically, math is the study of things that can be learned. 😎

as another person who eats spicy food: i think that after eating lots of spicy foods, all future foods naturally get less spicy. it’s like a food version of karma. people who don’t eat spicy food have lower scores and so the food gets spicier when they eat it.

what i meant by “urbanized” is that these days, playing online games feels like living in a big city where there are a ton of people but it’s hard to feel like you know everyone. you can still make a group of friends and find “local communities”, but i think that’s distinctly different from the feeling of a small town where you know a lot of the people there.
all that being said, there are advantages to living in a big city instead of a small town. in this context, that would look like faster matchmaking times, making it easier to find a full server, etc. but i still wish games gave you the option of picking a community server. i miss having the option of joining custom servers and getting to know the locals.
