I completely get all that, but looking at the typical user base that uses mainstream social media platforms, like TikTok, I don’t see them being knowledgeable about some china centered alternative app
I just don’t see, how so many would switch to that, as most of them wouldn’t have known about it a week ago.
Was it promoted on TikTok? - Comment on Biden’s TikTok Flip-Flop: President Rushes To Undo Ban He Championed As Backlash Grows 1 week ago:
Personally I still don’t believe that a completely unknown app was suddenly getting new members in the means of some grassroots protest.
Maybe it is more (or gotten) more known through TikTok and that’s why it was basically unknown for me.
Still, I think this is artificially hyped as a reaction to a potential TikTok ban and not some organic growth - even taking into account people switching in protestI think, I’ve heard about this app like once in the last years. And, not wanting to sound self centered, but as a software dev and quite interested in anything internet, I find this development rather strange.
Was “little red book” promoted on TikTok or how did so many people, who are usually just consumers of feeds, suddenly heard of that new app?
Especially, when I have a really hard time to have them install a new app, like Signal, in other cases.Ok, this wasn’t really a good answer to your comment, sorry. You’re right, that the TikTok feed just builds individual bubbles, so right wingers will get more right wing info and the other way round.
But the sudden switch to a practically unknown app just… seems fishy - Comment on Biden’s TikTok Flip-Flop: President Rushes To Undo Ban He Championed As Backlash Grows 1 week ago:

After like 2 years with my Pulse 15 the battery started to pillow. They sent my a replacement for free. Now I’m having a Framework 16 and didn’t use my Pulse 15, so I gave it to my nephew. But I saw that the CMOS battery was dead. Wrote them a mail and they are now sending my a replacement battery for free. All in all, great company

Software runs on processing power. Doesn’t matter if it’s mechanical, electrical or biological computing power.
The important part is, that something is processing it.
And although by now software development through abstraction feels disconnected from just specialised algorithms: everything will break down into numbers and some form of algorithm to process the information - Comment on Car 7 months ago:

I currently use wireguard to access my home LAN. just hoped you had done experience with a nice system, so you don’t need to do it by hand - especially syncing my smartphone photos.
Maybe I’ll give immich another chanceThanks for the answers! :-)

Thanks!
Just one question: How do you sync your photos to your NAS on the go?
- Comment on How does SecureErase work? 8 months ago:
Yeah, I’m having a hard time deciding about that.
On the one hand I’m often in business trips and want to be at least able to recover my data easily if something happens.
On the other hand getting the laptop stolen with all the data is a nightmare.
Didn’t look into current solutions for quite some time though. As I’m currently waiting for a new laptop, this could be a good time to check something out.
Anyone with some suggestions? (Will look into the encrypted FS OP recommended, but having options and opinions never hurts) - Comment on Tots Rule 8 months ago:

Testing exactly for the results you expect is a good start to verify functionality, but you also need tests, that can bring up whatever, so you get a better view of the risk profile
But I’m not a pharmacist, so I’m just taking out of my ass anyway
- Comment on Big Science 8 months ago:
Yeah, if I test my software all is good as well. As soon as the customer does something, he finds bugs, because I didn’t thought about that situation.
As the drug user in the end isn’t qualified enough, they should exactly test like that and not just what they think is right
But maybe my analogy isn’t completely working in that case…

Heroin withdrawal is shit, but compared to alcohol or benzos it’s at least not deadly. Also opiates are not hard on the body.
The problem with opiates is mostly getting clean ones - and the money for it.
In Switzerland they have a program, where they hand you clean heroin to addicts and with a safe clean supply they can work, get a grip on their life again, and they start to reduce the dosage themselves after some time.
The social stigma and the idea to punish someone out of addiction is obviously bullshit.
People usually self medicate because of problems. So solving those problems is the right approach and not just taking away crutch. Also the state is losing quite some money with the prohibition - on multiple fronts
