never bought
I’d call them a lying sack of shit, quite honestly, because the best marketing is subliminal and can create a desire that you might not notice for a while or in a different environment. You don’t have to click on an ad or immediately jump on Amazon to be affected by marketing. But the fact that you might remember the name of a certtain product when you go to the store and buy that type of cereal or simply yearning for a certain type of phone or shoes or car means that marketing is indeed working on that person.
- Comment on Flashback - Mark Zuckerberg on billionaires: 'No one deserves to have that much money' 1 year ago:
Love how people are confusing salaries or yearly income to net worth.
Net worth is the total accumulated value of all the stuff you own (value of assets minus the liabilities) - houses, cars, investments, etc. That is massively different than what you are getting paid each year which is what a lot of people here are using as a metric.
It isn’t out of the question for someone to make “only” $100 or 200k/year and be considered a “millionaire” by most people’s definition. They might be older and have paid off their house. That house might be worth $500k and all the other stuff they own is a few hundred thousand more. Plus maybe $100k in some investment portfolio. Thus making them technically a millionaire. There are a lot more millionaires out there than people realize, including some people here or their parents or maybe grand parents.
That’s not to take away from the argument that billionaires have too much money, but at least phrase the movement correctly. Stop equating someone making $50k/year with someone’s who’s assets are worth $1B. That’s comparing apples to oranges and not just by the sheer difference in the numbers either.
- Comment on Immune to marketing 1 year ago:
Marketing is a $1/4 TRILLION industry in the US alone because it works. Thinking that you are immune to it for one reason or another is laughable. In fact those that think they are immune to it, probably are the most susceptible to it’s pull.
- Comment on Godot Engine hits over 50K euros per month in funding 1 year ago:
I might have to one of these days, but man do I doubt it’s UI is usable after being such hot garbage over so many years. Such a shame too because fuck everything about Autodesk and I know Blender has some incredibly powerful tools.
- Comment on Godot Engine hits over 50K euros per month in funding 1 year ago:
Oh god. Please aim higher than that. Not saying that Blender ain’t powerful, because it clearly is, but it’s UI is just plain shit. (Unless there have been some massive improvements over the last few years.)
- Comment on How Significant is the Quality Increase from "Toy" to "Real" Projectors? 1 year ago:
Whether real or a toy, you need a specific environment to get a good picture with them. It just doesn’t make a ton of sense to me to get a projector when TVs are so dirt cheap these days.

Yeah, except it does in states that run properly which is why my state has some of the highest paid teachers in the entire country. Maybe leave whatever shithole state you live in if you can’t control what your legislators vote on. Or you know, get off your lazy ass and vote come next election cycle.

That’s the beauty of supply and demand. If the supply of teachers goes down, then at some point the pay has to go up to fill that need.
- Comment on 31-year-old teacher quit her job. Now she works at Costco—and boosted her income by 50%: ‘I've never been happier' (these are not feel good stories, this is sad) 1 year ago:
I’m not disputing that and I’m not saying that teachers shouldn’t be paid more. You’re missing what I am saying. I am simply stating that if money is a consideration (and it is for just about everyone), then you should be looking up what jobs pay in a certain field before you even start your studies. And this goes for more than just teaching. I hear this all the time of how people are surprised that X field pays like shit… well how the fuck did you get through 2 or 4 or more years of school and not look up what the job prospects are?!?
- Comment on 31-year-old teacher quit her job. Now she works at Costco—and boosted her income by 50%: ‘I've never been happier' (these are not feel good stories, this is sad) 1 year ago:
Stop going into fields that pay like shit. I don’t really see the problem here.
You have graduate after graduate complain that the jobs in their field pay like crap… but you could easily have researched what the pay rate is for these careers before you even started your degree. If it isn’t as much as you want to make, then find something better.
- Comment on Microsoft Next Console Coming 2028 1 year ago:
Probably. But I still find it funny how they were pushing so hard into making people believe there would be no more hardware generations.
- Comment on Microsoft Next Console Coming 2028 1 year ago:
I remember when the current generation of consoles came out (Series X/S and PS5) that both MS and Sony and all the various gaming magazines were claiming that they would be the last hardware consoles ever. Uh huh.

Mobile internet is hot garbage.
- Comment on So why is 3 nm chip better? 1 year ago:
Smaller process means less energy. Less energy means less heat. Less heat can mean faster operation. So without changing any of the layout or logic of the chip itself to make it more efficient, just shrinking the process alone will give you a speed boost.
But it goes further than that. Chips are cut from a wafer. The cost to make that wafer is (for the most part) constant. So if you can only make 20 or if you can make 2000 chips from that one wafer, it ultimately costs the same. But then that means the more CPUs that can be made per wafer, the per-CPU cost drops.
So you get a more power efficient, cooler, faster and cheaper chip when you shrink the process. The entire semiconductor industry is so dependent on this idea that it invests billions into it every year because it is so vitally important.

- Comment on How do I tame my frustration toward my aging parents? 1 year ago:
Yes, it is infuriating, but getting mad at the situation only makes things worse. It isn’t like they will change or “get better” - you (hopefully) get better from a cold or illness. You don’t exactly “get better” from old age.
If they listen to you at all, consider that a win. If they are financially in decent condition, that’s also a massive win. If you can convince them to improve their health that has the potential to help the situation - eat better, maybe go for walks around the neighborhood.
I am going to assume that you don’t live with them, so one thing that has helped my mother tremendously is getting her an iPad. Both parents (who are older than OP’s parents by quite a bit) are not tech savvy in the slightest bit (I can not stress enough how NOT techie they are), plus their native language is not English, so communication for them has always been a little difficult. But getting my mother an iPad and installing Facebook on it was easily the best gift ever. She is able to communicate with relatives she hasn’t seen in decades. She can video chat with people 1/2 way around the world. It really is pretty amazing, especially since before the iPad, she’s never used a computer or had an email address or anything like that. Facebook gets a lot of well-deserved hate, but set it up for them, block whatever you can block and just make the it as streamlined as possible for them to use it. The large screen size on the iPad works infinitely better than a small phone screen.

- Comment on Are smart door locks more or less secure than traditional door locks? 1 year ago:
Far too many smart locks that are connected to a deadbolt use an actuator which can be tripped with a powerful magnet. No way would I trust them.
The LPL would have had to test them for me to trust them.

Oh, let me add “can’t take any responsibility or else they experience PTSD or some other debilitating mental trauma” to my list.
- Comment on Do younger people go home earlier now? Or go out less? Is it since COVID? 1 year ago:
Young people can’t do anything these days without their emotional support ferrets or without their phones clutched in their hands so they can ask the internet what to think.

That entire site is toxic as all hell.
How many people have been banned from one sub because they posted in another sub? It happened to me, and I’ve heard it happening to a few others. It wasn’t even anything bad or offensive or controversial. It was literally just the fact that I posted in one sub, made the mods in another sub think they could ban me in this other sub. WTF? And of course there is zero recourse with those clowns.

You have any idea how much Roundup costs?! Just cut the plants down instead of spraying them.
- Comment on EBAY Prices 1 year ago:
Is that device out of production? They might be counting on limited availability to jack up prices.
Is that product not available in all markets? They might be counting on someone in Sweden, who might not be able to buy that device is willing to pay a premium.
Was there a recent price drop? Maybe this is listed in the product’s old peice amd they are slow to drop it.
I wonder if it it just straight up money laundering.
- Comment on Are there any recurring charges (or other downsides) that come with having a driver's license but not owning a car or regularly driving? 1 year ago:
Absolutely no good reason not to have a license. Be it for the occasional rental or borrowing someone’s car once in a while. Or just being able to drive someone’s car across town if something happened.

- Comment on The salary a single person needs to get by in every U.S. state 1 year ago:
I could feasibly get hired for
Tell me you have zero marketable skills without telling me you have zero marketable skills.
The tech sector can’t find workers fast enough. Manufacturing is endlessly looking for workers. People that can string a few coherent words together are being hired on-the-spot. Just say you are lazy and drop the charade.
- Comment on The salary a single person needs to get by in every U.S. state 1 year ago:
Let’s clarify things:
Only 1.4% of US workers are paid minimum wage.
Yeah, keep pounding the “…but, but, but minimum wage” drum and lose all credibility. You are making a disingenuous argument by endlessly talking about a wage that essentially no one is making. Anyone with even the most basic skill of breathing will be making more than minimum wage, and even skill-free jobs like McDonalds have been advertising hourly rates of $10, 12, something even 15 or more an hour.

I guess having a roommate is something they’ve never heard of.
- Comment on FYI: Ed Sheeran is a scab. 1 year ago:
100% this. People actually think that folks track the inner-political bullshit at Starbucks?? The delusion of some people is incredible.
If you don’t like Starbuck’s agenda, then how about you just stop buying food from there? Oh, but that is a bridge too far for most. Hell, I bet 1/2 the people crying in here have probably bought from Starbucks and ordered from Amazon and given money to other anti-worker companies in the last week.
- Comment on No one really understands our struggle 1 year ago:
Don’t even bother arguing with those idiots. It’s not worth your time.
The same clowns that scream about “low wages means low effort” to justify lazy workers, also can’t fathom why someone isn’t going to rent their property (with all the risk, stress and work that goes along with that) for just $100/month in profit.
Funny how they don’t see the hypocrisy.
On Reddit, you’d get the same anti-work, anti-landlord, pro-freebies crowd, but we also had a reasonably well trafficked real estate sub. I haven’t found a good place to talk about home purchasing, repairs, and dealing with real estate agents on this site.
