more like chimps are monkeys in the same way that whales are mammals

so, frequently people will conflate monkeys and apes, and use the terms interchangably (that’s the left end of the graph), people with a bit more knowledge may be aware of the common definition that monkeys have tails while apes do not (that’s the middle part), while those with more knowledge of biological taxonomy argue that, since new world monkeys and old world monkeys share a more distant common ancestor than old world monkeys and apes, if we want to define a term ‘monkey’ that encompasses both new and old world monkeys, it would have to also include all apes (including humans). so, according to the right side of the graph people, chimpanzees are apes are monkeys (though lots of monkeys are not apes, it’s a squares and rectangles kinda thing).

- Comment on Me seeing my post being removed (at least I have my muffins) 2 months ago:
if you missed the original, it had text at the top that this image has removed. said something like “men who dislike trump checking their muffins”. it was clearly a joke saying that anyone who dislikes trump is, idk, silly? bootylicious and flexible? (and therefore feminine by right wing standards i’m sure). i’m not sure what the precise nature of the insult was meant to be, but clearly anti trump people were the butt of the joke.

some ereaders do use android, my old onyx did, but honestly i much prefer the dedicated solution kobo has. they could use android, but if they’ve got the resources to make their own os targeting their actual use case instead of cramming a mobile phone os in there, why wouldn’t they? even their os has too much cruft for my taste, but it is a lot less than an android ereader.

second day you say? why, by then we can have the second backup bridge designed, printed, and installed next to the first, so that is not a problem. every two days, a new bridge.

oh, you meant social engineering in the sense used in security, not the sense used in political science.

i don’t get it. what would be the goal of this if it was social engineering?

with all due respect, kraft dinner is in fact the most valid mac and cheese. other cheap boxes of noodles and cheese powders are also acceptable. real cheese has no place in mac and cheese.

you’re absolutely right, but honestly, i think it is likely less of large portion, and more of just a very loud and obnoxious portion.
- Comment on How do I block all of Hexbear from All? 9 months ago:
assuming that you’re not making a joke there, ‘crypto-fascist’ has nothing to do with crypto-currency, rather it is a term used for someone who holds fascist viewpoints, but is not public about them, or who tries to be subtle about promoting fascist ideology.

some clients i think have that functionality (not rightly sure which), and i know it is a planned feature for lemmy as a whole eventually, but honestly if you saw one bad post, just downvote and move on, leave a comment on it expressing your distaste, or just block the user, or the community, right? i feel like wanting to block a whole huge instance over one stupid post seems a bit over the top tbh.

you raise a good point. we still don’t have vaccines for broken legs either. this puts the reality of all other supposed vaccines into further doubt.

- Comment on We need to have a serious talk about this instance being federated with Lemmygrad, Hexbear, and tankies in general 10 months ago:
i mean, that’s the risk you take, using the ‘all’ feed. you’re gonna see stuff you didn’t sign up to see. that is the point of it. if you want to see stuff you did sign up to see, you could use the ‘subscribed’ feed instead. that is what it is for.

I signed up for this instance specifically BECAUSE it banned them
i think you were mistaken. someone correct me if i’m wrong, but i don’t think lemm.ee ever defederated from hexbear, rather, hexbear was defederated from everyone. they quite recently changed that, and lemm.ee users then subsequently joined hexbear communities, which is why you’re now seeing them if you browse by ‘all’.

duckduckgo also served me up this absolutely deranged article, probably written by a language model, about a film called ‘Space Movie 1992’ starring Kevin Bacon about a crew of a space freighter that have to intervene in an alien war, that i am just about 100% certain has never existed. apparently it’s a hugely influential bit of cinema history though. the image at the top does appear to be from the blaxploitation film the OP is pointing everyone to though.
also, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
