It’s called “droit de bouchon” in France, meaning “cork right”. Very old practice, commonly used by professionals

I own such a website and I confirm the date is right. French wikipedia though is wrong as it uses a bad simplication reform that was never voted
- Comment on Or we could do metric time 3 weeks ago:
France tried such calendar in 1789 and 1871. We lost it when Jules Ferry executed all communalists in Paris. Some people in France still use those calendars to show their support to revolutionary ideas

- Comment on Could you stay in the roundabout indefinitely? 3 months ago:
Illegal in my country, as you are disturbing traffic. Potentially even preventing emergency services to operate
- Comment on Why are so many countries in the world “developing” and poor, while essentially only Western countries have a high standard of living? 3 months ago:
There will always be 50% of countries poorest than the 50% richest countries
- Comment on Can Lemmy instances make content of their sub-Lemmys indexable by search engines? 3 months ago:
Other comments are good answers. I would like to add that search engines including google appear to be struggling to index the entire lemmyverse because we generate more content that they process. With time, the priority we are given will increase until search engines figure out lemmy is top-quality content

- Comment on We have had guns for 200 years but mass shootings only became common in the last 30. So what changed? 6 months ago:
It’s not something we discuss often, and none of us have guns. But we all feel extremely weak against the government which we all hate, and that openly violates the core principles enonciated when we created the republic. People are getting angry, but it’s something that’s still very new

This mindset is the primary reason we live in this world
- Comment on We have had guns for 200 years but mass shootings only became common in the last 30. So what changed? 6 months ago:
They had guns in 1789. That was the main reason they took the Bastille. Everything changed after that day

Except that when a revolution becomes necessary we will all be fucked. Citizen’s most important duty is ensuring the State stays true to democracy
- Comment on Is there any christian religions that don't believe in space? 6 months ago:
These are old beliefs from before the bible even existed. I’m pretty sure it was included in the bible though, but you know, even as a christian you can’t take everything that’s in the bible seriously

Bitcoin is safe. Do not sell for something else. Even if Bitcoin continues to grow as it did before, you will only have 67.2 in 2026. That amount of money will not make you rich. The average human owns 0.002375 btc, so you are still poorer than the average in Bitcoin
