That’s pretty cool. I knew some shows’ plots were in parallel, but it’s surprising seeing all the interleaving. I hope they update it with the new seasons soon. …blogspot.com/…/and-now-conclusion.html?m=1

There are some informative answers elsewhere, however, I noticed a gap between the comments and my expectations, bidet-wise: here’s a link to the relevant SNL Bidet sketch: piped.video/watch?v=zQx-ZbSQSBM&t=0. Enjoy

I’m watching TNG now with someone who’s never seen it before, and that’s making me ‘see’ the show with fresh eyes. The first few episodes are so hard to get through. Some are straight up cringey. Many remember Code of Honor and Last Outpost as being horrible, but Naked Now is awful in its own way. Don’t get me wrong: TNG goes on to be an excellent, culture-defining show. When people talk about how good it is, they’re probably thinking about Measure of a Man, Inner Light, Darmok, and Best of Both Worlds.
Let me add that DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise got to build on the risks that TNG took. Those shows were more consistently good at their starts.

This seems like a common theme. There are just so many things to subscribe to: Netflix, Spotify, New York Times, Amazon, Audible, individual app store applications, Paramount+, Hulu, Peacock, NPR+, Disney+, etc. Just keeping track of it all is complicated. And all content producers want to maintain the subscription framework, too, passing the costs on to us. This is a little off topic, but it still bugs me that Netflix became a content producer. I think it would have been a cleaner/cheaper arrangement if they’d remained a subscription service only.

That’s good there. I think that’s my mistake when I park. I align with the neighboring car’s sideview mirrors.

I’m sorry to say that I’m often one of those dumbass drivers (though I drive a little Civic). I need to do a better job of not pulling so far. Pedestrians and bicyclists deserve a sidewalk free of obstacles, and It’s not good for the car either.

- Comment on Minecraft's recent EULA changes place heavy restrictions on Java servers 1 year ago:
The cynical part of me agrees, but one win that could be achieved is a pervasive anti big tech culture built on a foundation of recent corporate betrayals. The more the tech companies push, the more alienated the customers. Will they keep buying? Probably. Will they stay loyal when other options arise? Probably not.

- Comment on Star Trek Confirms an Underrated TNG Crew Member Is Destined for Command 1 year ago:
I’m watching the first season of TNG now with someone who’s never seen it before. That’s forced me to look at the series with fresh eyes. One thing that strikes me is that TNG took a lot of risks in the beginning to make a new kind of Star Trek. I see the Crushers as one. Some risks didn’t work out as well as others, but Star Trek overall benefited. IMO, it would edifying revisit Dr. Crusher and see more character growth like in Picard.
- Comment on As an OG Reddit Sync user of over 10 years, all this arguing really brings a tear to my eye. 🥲 1 year ago:
Shouldn’t an ethical human choose tools that do more good than harm? As long as an application does that, does it matter if it’s open source or not? The software we use in our daily lives is a personal choice and people shouldn’t be shamed for choosing a closed source application. Especially one created by an independent, craftsman software company. Sync, and other well-designed for-profit clients, benefit Lemmy, an open platform. That benefits all.
Let me add, many of us are social media refugees, fleeing exploitative and closed platforms like Reddit, Twitter, and Facebook. There is also nothing wrong with continually evaluating the closed source solutions we choose to prevent repeating past mistakes.

Just a follow-up for my neighbors in the southeast: don’t fall for the sweet tea propaganda. Regardless of culture or tradition, it’s a bad habit.
- Comment on Sweet tea 1 year ago:
It really is. I was raised in South Carolina and drank sweet tea regularly as a child. In my college years, I had easy access to as much as I wanted and gained around 50 pounds. One summer, I realized how much better I felt drinking less of it and swore it off. By swapping sweet tea for water, I lost all that weight and have kept it off for 20 years.
Nowadays, I’ve gained an appreciation for unsweetened iced tea. The initial sip is always a shock when restaurants accidentally serve me sweet tea.
