  Presumably this happened when anon was a kid, before we learn to rationalise why playing videogames non stop is unhealthy, attaching thoughts like “oh i need to do something productive”

  Someone i knew who was really academically excellent without any effort, he loves/loved rhythm games. I think people are drawn to games which fill a void of what they can get out of their own life, so someone who doesn’t play a musical instrument or sports for instance can get that from rhythm games.

  It seems like people have gotten less cliquey about virginity since then, so maybe it is a good lie?

  Unironically, yes maybe. If it is seen as avoiding your responsibilities, and doesn’t contribute to some area of society (but rather sees-to the “worship” of you yourself) then it is hedonistic

  Right! I’m glad to see someone thinking critically about what hedonism to fundamentslly means, rather than relying on the more pejorative usage of the term.

  I realised once that, even tho I was a drug free tee totaller who didn’t party or have sex much, I was still a hedonistic at that time because I played videogames as much as possible.

  Yes while I started typing it I tried to picture what American classrooms looked like (from Hollywood films etc) and realised they’re not the same as where I live

  Or just, wealth/stability. So many people would give away money to have their own vegetable garden attached to a multi-generational home - they can then figure the rest out from there.

  Humans are different and have different interests but one thing common to all of us is that we enjoy:

  • being outdoors
  • exercising
  • having community
  • learning skills and creating things

  There are actually some people who successfully self therapise. This is hard to do, so it’s actually a testament to just how many people out there need therapy, which reflects how unhealthy modern life is for humans.

  The core idea of the tweet is correct - people can heal mental health sounds when given the right environment to. We live in a time where almost nobody is in the right environment for this, which requires what I listed before (healthy community, access to green space, purpose and recreation). This is basic stuff, I think it’s covered by Maslow’s hierarchy of needs - which, ironically, is often shown to business students in universities, but then disregarded by the capitalists who rule this world.
