You directly implied holding onto something for its potential investment valuation at a later date. It’s almost certain that a mutual fund investment will be worth more in 10 years, whereas a specialty console is a gamble whether it’ll increase in value and how much, and whether it needs to b mint condition.
Therefore if the goal is future value, as you implied with the Majora’s mask example and setting sentimental value to the side, investing in a mutual fund is the more logical choice. Not apples and oranges when broken down to merely “which option is likely to be worth more.”

$199.99 in February 2015. Stuffing that in an S&P 500 indexed mutual fund would be worth over $700 today without even reinvesting dividends. And that’s more reliable than “maybe this console will be resellable at a much higher amount.” Also the investments are easier to sell. I’m not usually convinced by the future value arguments.

To me, it’s similar to feeling proud. Feeling pride in country is weird and just leads to nationalism, which is horrible. I never feel shame about shit I literally cannot control or affect.

I haven’t, but for a long time I considered changing the last name to completely disconnect from my childhood family, who I took far to long to learn had me programmed and did not treat me, or really anyone, well. I’ve been no contact for a long time and it has helped. I no longer feel like who I am is wrong, nor do I pike on the regrets for trying.
I still occasionally think of changing the name.
