And that’s more reliable than “maybe this console will be resellable at a much higher amount.” Also the investments are easier to sell. I’m not usually convinced by the future value arguments.

You’re comparing apples and potatoes. The question was not “what is the best way to invest $200?” It was, “is it worth it to keep an already owned item for increased value at a later date?” And the answer to that really depends on OP’s opinion on wether or not an increase of 2-300% is enough to justify holding onto it.
