I guarantee that 10-20 years down the line, it will be far more valuable as a collector’s item. Just look at any limited edition Zelda console released. The Majora’s Mask 3ds is going from like $400-$600 right now. I say you should definitely keep it, even if you don’t have much sentimental value for it.

$199.99 in February 2015. Stuffing that in an S&P 500 indexed mutual fund would be worth over $700 today without even reinvesting dividends. And that’s more reliable than “maybe this console will be resellable at a much higher amount.” Also the investments are easier to sell. I’m not usually convinced by the future value arguments.

You’re comparing apples and potatoes. The question was not “what is the best way to invest $200?” It was, “is it worth it to keep an already owned item for increased value at a later date?” And the answer to that really depends on OP’s opinion on wether or not an increase of 2-300% is enough to justify holding onto it.
