Lol I like how you technically answered the question even tho that’s not what I meant 😅 (its cool tho)

Is more like I want to pre-emptively move away from android in anticipation of Google’s autocratization, because, Google have:
- recently added restriction on sideloading in Singapore to “protect against scams”.
and
- Google has also refused to provide pixel-specific source code to make it easier to build custom roms.
Thete are just the first 2 of the “red flags” I see.
So… as far as I know, Graphene OS is kinda on life support because it depends on Google’s co-operation. I don’t like the idea of Lineage OS because for most of the phones, you’re just running around with an unlocked bootloader, which to me, is insecure.
Also: I’m not in the EU, I’m in the USA, so Digital Markets Act wouldn’t have jurisdiction here.
To Reiterate, the things I want is (in order of importance)
- The ability to install any app/program I want (which Google seems to start to restrict, and Digital Markets Act doesn’t apply in my country). So I want to move away pre-emptively as a precaution.
- Evil-Maid resistance (such as Graphene OS with Re-Lockable bootloader, which is on life support I remind you, due to Google being a dick). On a computer, I can boot from a encrypted-USB drive in read-only mode therefore making it very evil-maid resistant (I know its not impenetrable, but it’s the best I’ve come up with).
- To have as much privacy as I can reasonably get.

Looks cool, but:
I don’t think they can even boot from a USB drive? I’m thinking of using a hardware-encrypted-USB (like ones with a keypad built in), set to read-only mode which I would have the bootloader stored in, and use as a boot drive to make it evil-maid resistant. AFIAK, Devices such as the Pinephones only accept microsd cards for boot (correct me if I’m wrong).

Meh, sure android is trying the “desktop” thing again, which is just another glorified mobile UI. They just added restrictions for installing apps out of the play store (aka: “sideloading”) to supposedly stop scamming (its currently Singapore only, but they might expand it worldwide), and didn’t release pixel-specific code to allow custom ROMs to be easier made, so I worry about the direction they are going with the authoritarianism under mobile OSes.

No need to learn anymore and you know its a bad religion, just like any abrahamic religions.

Sorry I cant go “home”.
“Home” is PRC and they aren’t exactly too shy with the tanks."
Besides, PRC also doesn’t have dual citizenship, and I already naturalized as US Citizen, meaning the only citizenship I have is the US.
Any EU countries accepting refugees? 👀

We are all stupider now thanks to tech, no doubt.
I respectfully disagree.
I mean, if you mean like for some of my peers that spend their time on shit like “tik tok” all day, that’s obviously making them more stupid. But for the nerds that actually want to know more about the world, Not really.
For example, the Encyclopedia. That’s a very narrow source of information, and subject to the author/publisher’s censorship possibly by government pressure. There is no direct publishing like there is today.
In my birth country, PRC, the Tianamen Square Massacre wouldn’t ever made it into any encyclopedias, but with the internet, at least now there’s better chance of someone using a VPN and accessing the truth. Might not change anything politically, but at least the truth is out there for anyone willing to see it.
The internet-connected world make it harder to censor thing. There are a lot of videos and images of protests during the covid lockdowns that would’ve have a hard time mading it out to the international community without the internet.

Hmm interesting. But it means I don’t have a magical “damn it I forgot, let me google it” option. If I lived in that time, I’d have to write every piece of knowledge I want to remember down on a notebook, so I don’t forget and have to go borrow that same book again.
Or keep a whole bookshelf of knowledge, in which case, that would be taking a lot more space than a wikipedia.zim file + .epubs

I think I just remembered one of my fears that I always have: The idea of censorship
With the internet, I can find foreign journalist’s publications to cross-check facts.
Before the internet, I don’t think foreign press critical of your country’s government, especially if it’s an authoritarian country, would’ve been permitted.
Sure there are website censorships too in the modern era. But I think getting a VPN is far easier than smuggling foreign books and newspapers, and word-of-mouth news is just a long telephone game.

Welp I hada bried time in elementary school to middle school like right before the smartphone era began (think like 2012-2016), there was nearly zero phones in school at that time, I can assure you I still had near zero friends and everyone I only considered to be an “acquaintance”. Everyone talked to each other, I was the loser making origami stuff and being a loser in the corner by myself with barely anyone to talk to. So yea I kinda hated my life during that time period. Perhaps seeing tv shows portray pre-internet era triggered these subconcious memories and cause those fears to resurge?

- Comment on Is a parent expressing regret of giving birth to a child directly to that child a normal thing that parents do? 4 days ago:
The current US right-wing rhetoric is that (btw their words, not mine): “Immigrants are (a) violent dangerous criminals, or (b) drug addicts, or © welfare queens, or (d) mentally ill”
That sort of rhetoric, combined with the fact that hotlines are not anonymous; This is just asking for trouble.
I doubt even my (naturalized) citizenship would shield me from being persecuted by this fascist traitor in the white house.

hotline
um… about that
I’m kinda living through a fascist takeover in my country (USA) so probably a terrible option considering… en.wikipedia.org/…/Political_abuse_of_psychiatry
So yea thing are going very great here, spectacular even…
Basially its just Youtube Videos and pirsted TV and Movies keeping my brain alive. I have literally zero actual social connections besides having a cat to pet, which doesn’t really help much (cat is lovely, just not helping too much with the depression).
I’m basically just having coffee as a sort of anti depressant for now. Actual meds from any non-emergency sources (because the emergency ER method is a bad idea as I’ve said) takes a while because appointments takes like 6 months like wtf?!?

I was just consuming some media and that line of “regretting giving birth” came up and I was just like: I hope that’s not that common.
