Maybe an unpopular opinion and I’m sure you don’t agree but even if you’re only looking at radio for some weird apocalyptic situation, the knowledge you need to be licensed is there to teach you standards and best practices that will only improve your odds of successful communication without stepping on other people trying to do the same. Its not (all) some bureaucratic bullshit there just to make a buck or let The Man control you. You said it yourself, its easy. Just do it and know you can actually check the box without screwing up someone else’s message or screaming into frequencies nobody is listening on anyway. Its a test to make sure you’re a responsible member of a community.

To just get in the air if you can’t borrow one, look into QRP radios. They’re under 10W, but thats enough to go thousands of miles in good conditions with even a halfway tuned antenna. You can get kits for under $40 if you dont mind soldering, and not much more if you want assembled.
Listening alone is fun, and you do not need any license for that!

I was down there for work two weeks back on an annual visit and thought I’d go see the sludge pool. The whole area for blocks around was chain link and military in squads if 3-5. I used to buy the games I knew I’d want to play forever on disc for my PS4. Then the disc drive died, and while looking into repairing it I discovered they lock the drive to the mainboard by serial number and only “authorized repair centers” can flash the proper keys.
That’s when I gave up completely on consoles, bought most of those games at heavy discount on Steam, and walked from anything Sony bothers to fart out into the market.

This is exactly the kind of crap So y lives to pull, and why after my PS4’s disc drive died (and I found out they’re paired to the motherboard and can’t just be replaced) I stopped buying any more games, let Plus lapse, and repurchased everything on PC.
They all run better and can be modded there anyway. Fuck you Sony.
