Yeah whole mom and pop businesses getting eaten by larger, more specialized and efficient corpos is not a bug, it’s an inherent feature of capitalism. A worker at a specialized firm can manage dozens of apartments for the same salary as your aunt managing just one or two- she stands no chance in the long run.

No, not all investment is the same. look up the difference between rent and profit. One is “creatively destructive” and the other is just destructive

Oh I thought you meant decentralized currency. What you’re this is just standardized apis though, the vendors don’t need to talk to each other (federate) for it. unless i’m missing something

Surely we’ve learned by now that decentralization and markets don’t mix well

The Atlantic is not left leaning journalism lmao. A good rule of thumb is that if you publish David Brooks you’re not left leaning

unless i’m missing something, activitypub also needs a centralized authority like dns. That’s just how domain names work

Here’s a really good blogpost (and followup thread) outlining the differences of atproto vs activitypub (from one of the original authors of activitypub).
It got a friendly “acknowledged, we’re working on it” reply from pfrazee, one of the lead bsky devs.
