I haven’t seen any difference there honestly.
Nothing has changed. Here in Australia also, pre covid a leader for a hiking group was well known in the community and made racist comments. Reported them, and nothing was done.
- Comment on The enshitification of Meetup.com 1 week ago:
This has nothing to do with the problem at Meetup
I’ve been running a free Meetup for years
The actual issue is the costs, the shitty photo upload system and the fact that they send all hosts paid events for their own hosting group which can’t be blocked
It’s not enshitification. It has been shit for 8 years at least
There have always been expensive events

Who is upvoting this shit?
This shit is starting to sound like the Donald or extremist groups
- Comment on Persistent problems require persistent solutions. 2 weeks ago:
Wtf? What’s with all these weird extremist posts.

I’ve been using Linux for approximately 20-25 years.
If we’re talking about what one thing steam does well? Gaming!
It handles dependencies, and it makes windows games transparent to Linux users (you don’t even know it’s being emulated). In fact, from my understanding, some games run better than in windows in some cases
If you’re using controllers, steam input also makes games a lot more playable.
If we’re talking about the Unix philosophy though, what one thing does the Linux kernel do?
The Unix philosophy better targets daemons then user facing apps. In fact, if you look at xorg/xfree, one could argue it is one thing. But if you break it down into a different perspective, it could mean many things
- Comment on I hate when a PC game is ONLY available on Epic Games store 2 weeks ago:
Why would you avoid steam 😂
It is popular for a reason and Linux on desktop would be even more dead if it wasn’t for them (and proton)
- Comment on ugh i wish 3 weeks ago:
What nutritional benefits does it preserve exactly?
- Comment on Microsoft Confirms Windows 11 Update Kills Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and Other Ubisoft Games 3 weeks ago:
So?
This is likely a patch which blocks certain kernel hooks
It’s actually good for both Linux and Windows gaming ultimately because maybe Ubisoft will stop doing stupid anti piracy or anti cheating things that can break your system
- Comment on BACK IT UP 3 weeks ago:
Yeah. They were pretty adamant lefties were easily triggered a few years ago
Now they believe lefties are destroying the environment, and are having a temper tantrum over a lie as stupid as people eating pets told by a guy who lies about everything
- Comment on So this is how my neighbor fixes his fence. 3 weeks ago:
Who cares. It’s just a fence lol
- Comment on BACK IT UP 3 weeks ago:
Why shouldn’t they be able to sue cigarette companies or companies releasing unsafe products?
- Comment on BACK IT UP 3 weeks ago:
Look up. That’s why I said parents should be held responsible for serving it to kids
- Comment on BACK IT UP 3 weeks ago:
Not if you’re drinking raw milk
- Comment on BACK IT UP 3 weeks ago:
And parents are held responsible if they give it to kids
Insurance should also not need to cover sickness caused by it
- Comment on flouride 4 weeks ago:
No… just no
If that was true there are a lot of other things they could dump in the water
- Comment on Why does it seem most people, mainly conservatives, against Trans people? Unless I am wrong I never heard of one shooting up a school church or whatever. The ones I have met have been pretty cool. 4 weeks ago:
We have a lot of LGBTI people in our climbing group
I have never had an issue with any of them
But the people trying to be hyper masculine? Yep…
I feel like it’s because they never left high school. A lot of them are simply trying the same thing that worked when they are a kid. Everyone else grows up
- Comment on Dear Americans, be prepare to get screwed! 1 month ago:
Trump whipped Mexico really well into paying for that wall.
Trump just talks a bunch of shit lol. That’s actually why he won. Because he promised everything to everyone. He doesn’t have any real plans other than those related to genitals and immigrants. He never backs it up with any evidence either
Trump negotiated really well with Foxconn too. Remember that 10 billion factory they were gonna build thanks to Trump?
In fact, I’m actually willing to bet petrol prices and power prices will increase too. Because suddenly, batteries and solar have less competition and even if manufacturered in US, they can raise their prices
It’s just really dumb 😂
- Comment on How do Americans win their country back? 1 month ago:
Come to Australia mate
We will send our rejects to America in exchange

I’m guessing most countries would try to recycle batteries locally
- Comment on There are Minimum Wages, Why Not a Maximum Wage? 1 month ago:
Maximum wage only makes sense as a percentage of other people in the company. Ie. The maximum allowed is 10x more than the minimum wage paid in the company
Anything else means the money would just go to shareholders
- Comment on Clever, clever 1 month ago:
They can. There was that court case where the cases cited were made up by chatgpt. Upon investigation it was discovered it was all made up and the lawyer got into deep crap
- Comment on Is Lemmy an effective alternative to Reddit? 2 months ago:
Well. Common sense is common sense because it can easily be disproven.
Like Trump saying he’s going to be a dictator many times and displaying every trait he will. At this point of time, common sense as an example
- Comment on Is Lemmy an effective alternative to Reddit? 2 months ago:
I used to think it was better than reddit, but I hate to say it, I’ve started to notice facebook meme communities jump onboard. Science memes is amazing and isn’t affected (it seems to be all unique posts I’d never seen), but once those facebook repost meme communities jump onboard, you’re going to end up with all the people that makes facebook rubbish too unfortunately.
I’ve already seen an increase in dumb car meme posts which get reposted 3000x on Facebook (which brings along the same toxic anti-science people). We’re already seeing an increase in people who don’t seem to have much common sense
I want a community which is science and fact oriented, and I’m growing increasingly concerned that as we grow, we’re moving away from that.
But for now, its still awesome in comparison imho (last I looked, many reddit communities were overrun by nutjobs after the mods all left)
- Comment on Steam's new disclaimer reminds everyone that you don't actually own your games, GOG moves in for the killshot: Its offline installers 'cannot be taken away from you' 2 months ago:
People use steam because it’s good service, and a good product.
In fact, they also gave Linux a boost
They also have things like cloud saving
Developers use them because apparently they have some awesome features too for things like multiplayer and such and a great API
- Comment on Google now requires JavaScript 2 months ago:
Presumably… If you’re complaining about the use of Javascript, you have some coding knowledge. Otherwise it’s like complaining about the steering wheel in a car, when you can’t drive and don’t have a licence
- Comment on Gender 2 months ago:
Fairly sure we found a Maga voter…
- Comment on Google now requires JavaScript 2 months ago:
Even things like lazy loading and such require js though
A lot of features might not be obvious honestly
If you’re interested though, you could check the source which should be able to tell you immediately what they use it for

I got you bro.
I operate a hiking Meetup and a climbing Meetup.
The climbing Meetup I’m watching as a single member is slowly hijacking it
The hiking Meetup I put in so much work and its so intermittent.
The people who do join love it, I have great reviews and basically perfect scores, but just seems like everyone has better things to do
Screw 'en
