Yes, I can disable it. But I’m actually using the feature. Which probably contributes to the problem, because muscle memory makes me double press to fast.

Even as sex workers women cannot escape being expected to take care of men’s emotions. At least they are getting paid for it.
- Comment on How to get a new line in a post, but not two? 4 days ago:
You can also use a backslash instead of two spaces. For example, if your phone keyboard converts double space-presses to a period and you are too impatient to do them more slowly (definitely not me).
Just add a backslash\ for a new line

While Ada Lovelace did not actually help inventing the Analytical Engine, she was arguably a greater visionary than Charles Babbage who, as I understand it, mostly thought of it in terms of calculations.
This is what the wrote in 1842, one hundred years before the first general purpose computer was actually built (Babbage’s Analytical Engine was never built):
[The Analytical Engine] might act upon other things besides number, were objects found whose mutual fundamental relations could be expressed by those of the abstract science of operations, and which should be also susceptible of adaptations to the action of the operating notation and mechanism of the engine…Supposing, for instance, that the fundamental relations of pitched sounds in the science of harmony and of musical composition were susceptible of such expression and adaptations, the engine might compose elaborate and scientific pieces of music of any degree of complexity or extent.
- Comment on Solar powered personal umbrella with battery? 1 week ago:
Funnily enough, the word umbrella derives from the Latin word umbra, meaning shadow. An Umbrella was originally for protection against the sun. I know it now usually is used for the thing protecting you from rain (at least in English), I just thought it was funny that people did walk around with what they called an umbrella when it’s bright and sunny for a few hundred years.

- Comment on My mom tells me I should cut dad off for cheating on her, am I a bad person for not wanting to do so? 1 month ago:
You can turn this around as well. Their mom asking them to stop having contact with their father is her choosing to take away their father from them. If that’s what she wants to do…
Children should not be pulled into the relationship problems of their parents. The parents are the ones who chose to have a child together, they are the ones who have to deal with the consequences of that.
- Comment on how do I stop being a sucker for alcoholic stuff on sale? 1 month ago:
I’m in no way qualified to judge whether this classifies as being an alcoholic. But I think you certainly have an unhealthy relationship to alcohol or at least beer. It’s not really “normal” (sorry, I don’t know how to phrase it better) to think so much about a beverage.
The same goes for food, actually. And at least there it doesn’t automatically equal excessive consumption, sometimes it’s the opposite, either anorexia or even focusing on a healthy diet. The point is that the healthy default state is to not obsess about it too much.
Out of curiosity, have you tried alcohol-free beer? There are really good ones out there and maybe trying some could help you determine whether it’s actually the alcohol or more the “beer equals good time” aspect that drives you.
- Comment on What is the definition of concurrent vs cumulative? 2 months ago:
If you want to start a new line, you can either type the spaces at the end of the line or a backslash. I think it should work on all clients, but I’m not sure.

2 - Comment on Do you wish a Happy Mother's Day to your friends who are mothers or just to those in your own family? 2 months ago:
I don’t even wish my mother a happy mother’s day, because whenever mother’s day is brought up she rants about how it was made big by florists and the Nazis (this is actually true for Germany). She is a great mother though and she knows I think so.
- Comment on The inconsistent naming for insert row/columns in the German MS Office 3 months ago:
In German, Teams used to show people as “kostenlos” which does mean “free” but in the sense of “free of charge”, not “available”. They fixed it eventually but it caused much confusion with people asking if there are times when the calls are not free of charge.
My personal Teams translation highlight was a hint explaining to me how I could reorder a list. It said “Nachbestellung hier”. Which again does mean “reorder here” but reorder as in the thing you do when you buy the same thing again, a repeat order.
- Comment on The inconsistent naming for insert row/columns in the German MS Office 3 months ago:
And apparently the shortcut key r doesn’t stand for rechts (right) but for insert. Which is not only English but also the one thing all of those for options have in common.

- Comment on What’s your favourite international, non-Anglo/English series? 3 months ago:
I quite enjoyed the first two seasons of La Casa de Papel (Money Heist). I don’t know, if I would go so far as to call it my favourite though, because I also quickly lost interest afterwards. It’s just the first that came into my head when I read the question.
- Comment on Why is a two-party system considered democratic? 4 months ago:
I think it does make a difference. When the parties are voted for before forming the coalition, you know exactly how many people supported them and their policies. Then the coalition is negotiated based on that. If you form the coalition first, then only the majorities inside the coalition matter for who has the most say, you have no way of knowing what’s important to the voters.

- Comment on how do I show a coworker that I care about her after her mother died? 6 months ago:
If it was one of my coworkers I would offer them to come to me if they either need someone to talk to or need a distraction. For example going on a walk during our break or go get some food together, though these may not be applicable to your workplace.
- Comment on Does an international porn site like Pornhub take accents into account with their algorithm? Does an Australian watching Pornhub porn tend to get more porn with Australian accents than an American? 7 months ago:
Wdym? IDNWFP is a commonly used. I personality use it almost every day.
- Comment on Does an international porn site like Pornhub take accents into account with their algorithm? Does an Australian watching Pornhub porn tend to get more porn with Australian accents than an American? 7 months ago:
Probably, because it would put you in a group with other Australians and I’m sure they take any data they can get that can be used for localisation into account since preferences are influenced by location. But being in that group would only give you more Australian accents if that is something the data shows the group is into.
Or maybe they also take the upload location of the video into account.
- Comment on Does an international porn site like Pornhub take accents into account with their algorithm? Does an Australian watching Pornhub porn tend to get more porn with Australian accents than an American? 7 months ago:
IDNWFP (I do not work for Pornhub) but usually such algorithms are not that explicit. They don’t create rules and then come up with an algorithm to match these rules. They throw in a lot of data, do some statistics and then end up with a black box that makes the numbers go brrrrrr. So the answer is likely that Australians will get more porn with Australian accents if that is something a group the algorithm put them into likes.

Having two possible outcomes does not mean it’s a 50:50 chance.
“So if I aim the arrow at the 1cm square from 100m away and shoot, I either hit it or I don’t. So basically I have a 50% chance of hitting it.”
- Comment on Should Germany aquire nuclear weapons? 7 months ago:
There are far right extremists on the rise in Germany as well. The question you should ask yourself is: Do you want to risk an AfD-lead, Putin-loving, Euro- and NATO-critic government being in control of those nuclear weapons?

- Comment on Why do the majority of women still take their partner's last name? 8 months ago:
To all the people here arguing that it’s easier to have a family name, especially with children: It’s also possible that the husband takes the wife’s name. But from anecdotal evidence in my acquaintance, most men are very opposed to this idea. So if the woman wants a family name she has to change her name or have endless fights about it. That’s why most women I know did it.
- Comment on What do zoos do with dead animals? 8 months ago:
I think I remember some years ago a zoo fed a dead giraffe to the lions and people went absolutely insane about it. I’m not sure about the details anymore, they might have killed it because there wasn’t enough room in the zoo for it? Either way I didn’t get it, what do they think the lions are fed any other day? Animals that weren’t killed explicitly to become food? Some cows that couldn’t bear existence on this world anymore and offered themselves as lion food? Where is the difference?

P ^I - Comment on Does drinking coffee reduce the amount of nutrients absorbed from prior meals? 9 months ago:
Coffee can reduce how much iron get’s absorbed. This doesn’t have anything to do with the caffeine and the resulting stimulation though, but with something in the coffee binding the receptors or something like that. Don’t know if this happens with other nutrients as well.

- Comment on If Donald Trump was black, would he have made it this far in politics? 10 months ago:
I’m not from the US and while, thanks to the internet, I probably know more about Trump’s scandals and crimes than is necessary or reasonable for anyone only indirectly affected by his actions, I’m sure I’ve only scratched the surface. Especially since, as you said, you really have to put in an effort to keep track of all of them.
So I’m just observing from afar and constantly amazed by every new detail I stumble upon.
