- Comment on How come hotel check-in time is always 3-4? 1 day ago:
You’re totally correct. I’m thinking of instances when we were fully booked the night before, AND the guests who wanted to check in early unannounced had reserved a specific type of room we didn’t have many of to begin with.
If we didn’t know not to allow late check-outs for those rooms, and housekeeping didn’t know to keep an eye out for any departures from those rooms, we could run into problems.
- Comment on How come hotel check-in time is always 3-4? 2 days ago:
Emphasis on “some”. I used to work at a hotel. When people arrived at 11 AM expecting to check in, I had no problem making them wait in the lobby. I was polite about it, of course, but also firm.
Our housekeeping staff worked harder than anyone else in the building. I wasn’t about to give them a hard time on behalf of some ignorant, inconsiderate people.

Definitely high when he came up with this. That “air freight industry” bit was just a handy coincidence.

My two initial thoughts:
- There’s a Video Game Hall of Fame?
- It’s bullshit that Myst wasn’t already in it.

You know what would be even better for the long term? A large variety of games with less bullshit. Suck it, Microsoft.

- Comment on What are the best examples of a director going "all out" to get the best out of their actors? 2 weeks ago:
Learning that about Eastwood makes me think he wasted an opportunity. The “two takes” attitude is reasonable when working with experienced adults, but when you’re working with teenagers, you have to acknowledge that they’re still learning their craft.
Now I wonder if they would have given better performances if Eastwood had been more patient and flexible.

Good social/political cartoons simply a problem to its basic elements and make fun of whatever is contributing to a problem. Bad ones oversimplify a complex issue and are just an illustrated version of closed-minded griping. Actual “humor” is optional.
Guess which one the above is.
