Because you are the product, not the software that you use.
I think a lot of paid commercial software is significantly better than FLOSS

I agree with you on that point: Video hosting is extremely expensive. This is why YouTube is basically a monopoly, despite most of its users being annoyed with it (I presume).
And isolated, without the rest of Google and Alphabet, it may not be profitable, despite all of the ads it feeds us. But from my understanding, YouTube is yet another data aggregator Google uses to make money. Indirectly I bet YouTube is very valuable for Google, even if YouTube itself is not profitable.

Why am I or would I be homeless? Because I don’t tip my Landlord?
- Comment on Sorry lemmy but I have to ask? 7 months ago:
Just as personal information is on a large scale. YouTube/Google/Alphabet chooses selling our information as their core business model. As far as I’m concerned, they “don’t care” about the money they get from YouTube Premium.

I meant that in the way of mobile gaming become more feasible and widespread.
Oh, I see.
I’d say gaming on desktop is the traditional experience wouldn’t you?
Yes, I agree. I am getting the impressing you are sensing/expecting a shift away from desktops due to the widespread mobile gaming you mentioned. Maybe I am too old fashioned and conservative in that sense but for me gaming should ideally be done on a desktop. Furthermore I believe that gaming is best experienced and most desirable on a desktop.

Users are already paying with their personal information. Paying for YouTube is like tipping your Landlord.
