I find for coding problems it’s actually better to walk away and let it tick over in your mind.
You’ll often get a shower thought type moment.
- Comment on New Details on Valve's New Game 'Deadlock' - Insider Gaming 6 months ago:
We know very little about it at this point. It doesn’t reek of anything, seems like you’re just making assumptions based on very little information.
- Comment on New Details on Valve's New Game 'Deadlock' - Insider Gaming 6 months ago:
Apparently valve doesn’t really assign teams to certain projects. People can work on what projects they like and things organically get people behind them if they are looking good or interesting.
This means games that do get completed are often really good and ones that weren’t looking good fizzle out.
It’s an interesting approach for sure. I think it makes sense rather than steaming ahead with a bad game. On the flip side what could be an interesting product may die out.
- Comment on How do you search for honest product recommendations? 6 months ago:
The problem is most people only post when they do have issues or they give everything 5 stars if it’s as expected.
I find ignoring 1 and 5 star reviews helps with this issue.

I’ve seen them. Also up the road at Herculaneum the dock buildings are full of skeletons all huddled together.
It’s really haunting.

1000 is the maximum fine they can give. Most people would have got the “up to 30 days in jail” by now though.

From what I read there was damage to the memory in certain places so they’ve had to move the code into spare places in memory.
It’s an astounding feat tbh.
- Comment on The Biggest Box Office Bombs of 2023 7 months ago:
I do wonder how good of a statistic box office is nowadays with all the streaming services available.
A lot of people I know just don’t bother with the cinema anymore.
- Comment on Live Updates: Judge Holds Trump in Contempt of Court, Fining Him $9,000 7 months ago:
While violations of the gag order can be punishable by up to 30 days in prison under New York state law, prosecutors only asked Merchan to fine Trump $1,000 per violation for now—the maximum fine allowed under state law—though they also suggested the judge warn future violations could be met with imprisonment
Basically total bullshit. He should be locked up for how much he’s done it. Anyone else would be.

The state of the mental health system in the UK is absolutely disgusting.
If people could actually access help I’m certain less would be off work.
- Comment on if the bird flu started spreading between humans, how long would you need to stay quarantined before it was safe to come out?? 8 months ago:
It’s not just Devs. It’s essentially any office job.
Accountants or lawyers don’t need to be in the same building anymore than Devs do.

- Comment on CD Projekt CFO does "not see a place for microtransactions in single-player games" 8 months ago:
If they want to sell skins that are purely cosmetic I don’t have an issue with that. Some people have money to drop on stuff like that and it helps fund the game.
Loot boxes on the other hand can absolutely get fucked. It’s gambling, plain and simple. It has no place in games.

Firstly the safety net it provides.
Then it all comes down to how much you are taxed back and the threshold. Most high earners wouldn’t notice it. And they would have had the payment until they started earning high.
You or your partner could stay at home with the children, your kids would get money, you can get sick without worrying about money, it helps everyone.
High earners already pay higher taxes.
If your argument against it is “what about selfish rich people” then I would say fuck em.
- Comment on Trans youth will no longer be prescribed puberty blockers, NHS England says 8 months ago:
Those weren’t evidence based treatments to begin with. When we got evidence we stopped using them.
Puberty blockers already have evidence. They’ve been used since the 80s.
- Comment on Trans youth will no longer be prescribed puberty blockers, NHS England says 8 months ago:
When you stop taking them puberty continues as normal.
We’ve been using them for a long time on people who start puberty too early. And know they are effective and safe.
- Comment on I hate the term "Boomer Shooter" 9 months ago:
Boomer basically means 20+ years old nowadays as far as I can tell. Or older than zoomers.
- Comment on [deleted] 9 months ago:
This seems like it’s the only way it would work.
Everyone gets a certain amount a month.
You get taxed a certain amount back depending how much you make above some threshold. The average wage could be good.
So now the high earners are funding the system. But if they get sick and can’t work the tax goes away but they’re still getting that base payment automatically.
Low earners get help and high earners get a safety net.

In my country you can’t give a bad reference but you can refuse to give one.
If your former employer declined to provide one that’s a pretty big red flag.
Your previous employer is the person most likely to know if you are a good employee tbf.
