- Comment on Jimmy Butler Traded to Warriors; Heat Get Andrew Wiggins, Schröder, More 2 weeks ago:
I really can’t see a world where Jimmy Butler is contributing as much as Andrew Wiggins and Dennis Schroeder offensively unless he’s dropping 40 every night. You’d really need Steph Jimmy and Kuminga to drop 30-40 every night to make this work which has almost never worked with recent all-star teams minus Luka & Kyrie.
They already had really poor spacing, now you pretty much only have Steph who can consistently shoot 3s. Moses moody has been showing a lot of great shooting recently but will it stay? And how will it be in the playoffs.

Having conversations around how ineffective voting is, is not equivalent to discouraging voting.

Pointing out Americans system of live free or dying to avert censorship while also repeating US propaganda about China is hilariously ironic
What happens to the land/house you own if you don’t pay property tax in the US? Chinas 70 year lease is effectively a more solidified ownership than the US.
- Comment on It really is like this 3 weeks ago:
China has way too many people and there is more competition for jobs.
Is this only for well paying jobs like software engineering or is this also true for shittier service/factory style jobs?
- Comment on It really is like this 3 weeks ago:
Why would you even reply to begin with if you’re only going to derail the conversation with no pertinent information and not discuss the topic at hand?
- Comment on It really is like this 3 weeks ago:
Because this exact statement can also be applied to the US? Which to be frank I’m all for talking about, the US probably has the most enemies in the world. But regardless this discussion is intended to be about the government impacts on their citizens.
- Comment on It really is like this 3 weeks ago:
Why does every discussion around China devolve into this as if the US doesn’t also do this?
Instead let’s discuss how average Chinese citizen in Shanghai is doing compared to the average citizen in San Francisco and have a real discussion between the two countries.
- Comment on It really is like this 3 weeks ago:
Do people still use Jim Crowe laws to talk about the daily life of US citizens? These are 40-60 year old discussion that do not adequately describe what life is like to the average citizen today.
Yeah they have their own homeless issues, but imo having a homeless population who has a job and chooses not to return home vs one that has nothing is two very different situations and almost incomparable problems.
- Comment on It really is like this 3 weeks ago:
Right now I look at my life in the late 20s in the states and even despite having a well paying tech job, I will have to sacrifice everything in my life in order to have a family or even own a house and those two are exclusive of each other. Although not in deep debt, I’ve definitely had to pay my fair share towards medical and student debt.
I’m watching critical infrastructure projects that could impact so many people take 30 years to build.
The amount of homeless we see on the streets is our own governmental failure and the increased crime associated with it. Seeing what I see in US streets really can wear an empathetic person down, it’s a cruel world here.
Our diet and price to eat healthy in the US is continuously worsening (yes this is a choice to an extent but also a cultural problem that grows over time)
And even though it’s absolutely recency bias, the deportation of Latinos does not strike confidence in me given my heritage.
I do think China has changed a lot in the last 15-30 years, and don’t get me wrong I don’t think it’s a perfect life, I understand there’s an infinite amount of competition for well paying jobs, and housing prices are extremely high (albeit not as high relative to ours). But when you show me how China has effectively succeeded at each of these topics compared to our own governmental failures that I experience on the daily, it makes me question my own life here and why people immediately criticize China without nuance.

- their government being fucked up (especially their censorship)
I would love to discuss this with anyone that’s willing. If their government is as awful and fucked up as everyone says why does the average Chinese citizen generally have a better life than the average American in their respective societal totem pole (in cities specifically) ?
They have far more purchasing power for food, rent. Their healthcare is affordable. While censorship is a thing towards certain topics, there certainly isn’t a lack of discussion. They have far better public transit systems, far more parks, and public utilities, absolute ownership (no property tax).
To me it seems we’re continuously demonizing the lives of those we don’t understand who are actually far better off than most of us in the states.

Whether Gaza is entirely rubble in 2 years vs 4 years, it’s still rubble.
Whether Billionaires and corporations make 50% extra profits or 100% profits via exploitation of workers, it’s still exploitation.
If on day 1 of a presidency you can effectively have nationwide ICE raids and deportations, the previous administration allowed and helped in that in at least some capacity.

The Overton window has shifted so much in 4 years that 2024 democrats were definitely running on 2016 Republican platforms.
I don’t believe apathy is the solution but let’s not kid ourselves, they are effectively the same in regards to the proletariat. They just operate on a 50% societal deterioration as opposed to Republicans 100%

It’s very hopeful to assume there will be another set of elections in 4 years in all 50 states. We should be operating as if there won’t be.

Honestly nowadays I really hate the reflections on the court of the arena lights. I don’t remember them being this bad, I think it’s because the ads around the court have started changing and flashing.
- Comment on Are NBA broadcasts too brightly lit? 4 weeks ago:
Definitely varies by arena and court color, Cavs tends to look washed out a little bit imo.
Warriors games are bright AF.
By broadcaster I haven’t noticed a particular difference with the colors, but there’s a big audio difference sometimes with how much you can hear the players and fans

Coach of the year to fired in one year is a hell of a switch up. Also really like Mike Brown as a coach, I think he did a lot for the warriors. Will be interesting to see where the Kings go, not really any quality coaches on the market.

This pissing fight between ActivityPub sites and Bluesky is dumb and doesn’t further an open internet.
Not directed at you but to a lot, go put time into making Mastodon compatible with atProto instead of bitching.

It’s been an incredibly slow churn to progress.
The most noteworthy thing at yesterday’s hearing was a report on a Unclassified secret access program - Immaculate constellations which outlines types of UAPs and their behavior. The problem is it’s brought in via an unverified source, either current or former member of the DoD. Also it’s improperly formatted for a DoD doc. But that can possibly be explained via them editing it for public use.
The most interesting and ironclad to come from everything so far has been Schumer’s Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Disclosure Act of 2024 (UAPDA) which is attempting to get passed with the NDAA (Annual defense act). In the act it lays out the groundwork for UAPs existence and that the government is in charge of both reconnaissance and recovery of them, and most of the secrets are held behind the Department of Energy.
A lot of Chuck Schumer’s comments and amendments play relatively safe though saying “if this exists” then here’s a law. But there was also a lot of work put into a 2023 UAPDA with that NDAA and actually got shot down by Republican military industrial complex lackeys so take from that as you will.
The 2023 amendment was fought over heavily because it required a return of all classified uap biological materials and non biologics to be returned to the US government from private contractors. Which is another big bullet point.
I think the most news we’ll get soon is whether the 2024 version of the UAPDA is included in the NDAA this year.

The idea behind federation is great but in practice it’s splintered communities far too much to serve its purpose at a large scale.
