Unironically this…
Passkeys don’t work on my rooted device - they seemingly set up correctly, but sites like GH claim your device passkey doesn’t exist when you try to actually login. When you go to the affected site’s account settings to add the device as a passkey again, an error of some kind claims the passkey already exists 🤷♂️
Deleting/re-adding has no effect. Using FF with device biometric passkey auth

Some third party apps allow you to import your Steam OTP, such as Gnome Authenticator
However to obtain it in the first place you need to either use SteamDesktopAuthenticator (GitHub), an android emulator on your PC, or a rooted device to export your key…

The policies at my work are really backwards IMO.
I have full administrative access to our prod hypervisor (including inside the VMs running on it)… but not my own dev machine 🤦♂️🤦♂️

I’m very guilty of this, especially after someone close to me was assaulted by a predatory human being.
I don’t think there’s any easy way back when self esteem & self comfort are destroyed like that either, and just worsens the “competition” thing.
Fully agree with your last point

Warehouse job maybe? Needed some cash to hold me over a few years ago while studying. The “interview” was not much more than just completing some employment forms…
It’s quite intensive though, you’re on your feet for the entire shift. Wear garden gloves, or something protective on your hands, because the repeated handling of the boxes & rolling shrink wrap does cause injury.

Glad I picked up Assetto Corsa instead. That sim is 11 years old and has amazing graphics, a thriving community, and isn’t “always online”… GTS is only 6 years old in comparison.
I think GTS and FMS are going to eventually be a struggle to sell once people catch on to the fact that these franchises are being turned into very expensive recurring game subscriptions, which is a shame given how much these types of games have been decreasing in popularity since the peak of the early 2000s

That’s painfully expensive for just 500ml, ouch!
- Comment on A 2 way micro USB connector. Never thought they existed 4 months ago:
Mini USB has to be one of the most robust connectors I’ve used tbh. All my original cables from over a decade ago still work flawlessly, as well as the ports on the devices housing them.
As for Micro USB… not great. I hope USB-C is more durable, so far I haven’t had any issues with ports going bad that wasn’t down to some ultra cheap adapter or cable

Microsoft has really messed up GitHub. Logs you out automatically if you haven’t visited in a few days, constantly asks you to verify your 2FA, and the new feed makes it extremely difficult to track engagement on your own projects.
The worst one for me is that they allow you to view your recovery keys any time - IMO this is a really bad practice, recovery keys should only be shown once after a user has set up 2FA
Probably going to move to Codeberg since I’m seeing a lot of projects making the jump over there, but the real solution IMO is a federated version control system

- Comment on Help me acquire discontinued sound effect libraries please 4 months ago:
I was permanently banned from both these subreddits, r/SFXLibraries and r/AudioPost for “piracy efforts”! Where or how did I commit “piracy” in any of these reddit posts?! Only adding insult to injury; I got immediately muted from contacting both subreddit admins for 28 days! I didn’t even mention anything pirate-related like keygens or torrents. I just asked for help to locate these
Crosspost this thread to !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com. Seeing as you’ve had issues obtaining the media through the legitimate means, it’s probably time to sail the open seas 🏴☠️
Here’s the links to the Hollywood Edge and Sound Idea’s wiki pages to show the list of libraries they made; some of them don’t appear on Source Audio, so I need help finding an archive of some of their discontinued libraries somewhere:
soundeffects.fandom.com/…/Sound_Ideas_Canada_Ltd.
soundeffects.fandom.com/wiki/The_Hollywood_EdgeIt’s imperative I get it in their original unedited sound file form and in MP3 as .wav is too big and .ogg could crash certain programs like Vegas Pro.
If you can find the existence of it on Wayback machine somehow, that would be a great start, we could then have a filename to drop into the various P2P DHT search engines to get you what you’re after.
This post is a bit off topic for this community though - a moderator may remove it, just so you’re aware

Steam also releases pretty cool stuff, and continues to support them way after release… My steam link got an update about three weeks ago, despite being discontinued back in 2018
Also, the steam link can run custom apps (like Moonlight for those who would want to use it for generic low latency streaming without a Steam account) and has the ability to enable a SSH server and root access. There are some limits though on what things you can modify, particularly relating to the boot sequence and the included kernel, as it has a hardware secure boot implementation. The OS is on GitHub anyway.
I will happily give my money to companies like this that actually provide value to their users, even years after the fact. Doubly so if they are domestic or western - it is so rare nowadays to find a western company that isn’t blatantly and purely leeching their users

When my parents’ “dumb” LG TV became faulty, I asked them to keep it so I could repair it and use it myself.
Best decision ever. The issue was just down to a dodgy connection to the LCD panel, just needed a thin shim material in there and the issue was solved. I added a fan in there too since it gets really hot, and also now run it on the lowest brightness (which is still pretty visible during daytime) since the old CCFL backlights kick out a ton more heat when cranked up
It’s just over a decade old now and still going strong, currently hooked up to a Steam Link in the bedroom for streaming from other machines in the house, a Miracast/EZCast HDMI dongle for casting from my phone, and finally to my PS2.

Apple HomeKit does something similar with BLE devices - if your phone goes out of range, they’ll connect to the closest Apple TV or HomePod to get internet access

Newer TCLs, Vizios, and stuff running Roku embedded no longer allow this, completing the setup is mandatory to be able to use them.
I assume you can just disconnect the internet after setup and they’ll be fine??
