- Comment on How come in American classrooms they make another language an elective. Why not teach our kids as many languages possible that way if we go somewhere we will kind of have uper hand? 9 hours ago:
Oh boy don’t look up American required math education
- Comment on How come in American classrooms they make another language an elective. Why not teach our kids as many languages possible that way if we go somewhere we will kind of have uper hand? 9 hours ago:
That’s why it’s a fucking robbery when bilingual parents refuse to teach their kids a second language. Sadly happens a lot in the US with Spanish
- Comment on How come in American classrooms they make another language an elective. Why not teach our kids as many languages possible that way if we go somewhere we will kind of have uper hand? 9 hours ago:
The US is allergic to other languages. Hell, it’s even allergic to English depending on where you look. It’s all just part of the government’s plan to keep people stupid.

Languages are great, and you learn a ton about other cultures along the way. For anyone on the fence of learning another language, I can happily say being trilingual is super fun and worth the effort
- Comment on Michelle Obama once said when they go low we go high. Meaning the republicans go low. What would be the equivalent of the Democrats going low instead of high ground? 2 days ago:
It’s a compromise
- Comment on Push to eliminate sales tax on food and groceries in Missouri runs into resistance 4 days ago:
Yeah US sales tax applies to everything. It’s not like HST that varies by product
- Comment on Earbud question: Does anyone actually like to silicone tipped earbuds over the solid plastic ones? 4 days ago:
I détest the silicone ones. They’re uncomfortable and I always lose the tip. I only use the hard plastic ones
- Comment on For Americans, what do you really think of Latin Americans? 1 week ago:
Gallo pinto is lazy man’s food.
- Chop up onions and peppers (optionally celery), add to giant frying pan and cook slightly with some oil
- Dump in a metric buttload of rice. Day old rice is better than fresh. Fry it up a bit
- Add a can of black beans, juice included. Mix it all together
- Season with salt, garlic, Goya Adobo, and a fuckton of cumin. Add other spices to taste.
- Right before serving, add a fuck ton of cilantro and mix (no substitutions!). This shit shrinks like spinach.
- Serve with some sort of side - fried egg, sweet plantains, chorizo, chachirron, cheese (queso fresco or fried)
- Comment on For Americans, what do you really think of Latin Americans? 1 week ago:
Yes but the American idea of a taco is not traditional Hispanic food, and especially not representative of the majority of Latin America
- Comment on For Americans, what do you really think of Latin Americans? 1 week ago:
I’m originally from Costa Rica, but lived in both the US and Canada
The US has always had a major xenophobia problem, even in progressive areas. The area I grew up in is a red area of a blue state and my experience there as a latina was fucking horrible, in large part due to the cops. No one in the US seems to understand that Costa Rica is a country and I would constantly get called Puerto Rican or Mexican.
Canada is different, Costa Rica has a much stronger presence here and people are much more aware of it (though I’ve yet to actually meet any other Costa Ricans). My experience as a latina has been better by comparison, though unfortunately it’s because a lot of the racism and xenophobia gets directed at South Asian people.
- Comment on When did it become normalized to start passing credit card processing fees to the customer? 2 weeks ago:
Was it really baked into the price of the goods when the price of the goods hasn’t changed?
- Comment on What should I NOT do in front of rich people? 2 weeks ago:
Peel your calzones
- Comment on What do you recommend I carry in my first wallet? 2 weeks ago:
An uno reverse card
It’s come in handy more times than I’d like to admit
- Comment on JD Vance visits Milan, Italy 2 weeks ago:
Supposedly he brought his own food with him to Italy. Why would anyone bring American food to fucking Italy
- Comment on Jeans Vendor, what is my size? 2 weeks ago:
Women’s sizes don’t mean jack shit. A die roll is more reliable
- Comment on why is the beginning on the left and the end on the right? 3 weeks ago:
It’s fairly arbitrary. Many languages write right to left, and some even write up and down
- Comment on Is it theoretically possible Trump and ICE are killing a very large number of immigrants (like 25% of those detained) and no one knows? 3 weeks ago:
Didn’t aerial photos of that camp show mass graves and dead bodies…
- Comment on Am I financially enabling child labor in 3rd world countries by buying second hand fast fashion? 3 weeks ago:
No, secondhand is perfectly fine
- Comment on Should longer hair be handled by salons or male barbers? 4 weeks ago:
It’s still good to trim the ends every now and then to clean them up
- Comment on Should longer hair be handled by salons or male barbers? 4 weeks ago:
It really depends on what you want to do with it, though I’d recommend a salon
- Comment on Should longer hair be handled by salons or male barbers? 4 weeks ago:
There’s no shame in taking care of your hair, regardless of gender. It’s called “hygiene”

For a very, very brief moment, humanity did good science
- Comment on In multiple shots (no pun intended) it is shown him holding a phone to record. Question is what happened to the phone and why not release his video? 4 weeks ago:
They’re probably trying to sell it on eBay as we speak
- Comment on Do babies learn languages at different rates depending on how hard the language is? 5 weeks ago:
Je connais aussi le français :) C’est un peu plus difficile que l’espagnol à cause des lettres qu’on ne prononce jamais, mais pas beaucoup en fait
- Comment on Do babies learn languages at different rates depending on how hard the language is? 5 weeks ago:
Spanish is phonetic, what you see is what you get. There’s a few rules around the pronunciation of the letter c and (q)u/h not being pronounced, but it’s otherwise pretty standard. Gender in Spanish isn’t that hard and most words have endings that hint at it.
- Comment on At this point, what should we do about the ICE Agents and Trump and such? 5 weeks ago:
Use the four boxes of liberty
- Comment on If WWIII broke out tomorrow do you honestly believe america would win? 1 month ago:
Americans are already fleeing as political refugees, regardless of whether or not asylum is involved. I did it on a work permit but the mental and physical stresses are all there
- Comment on How long would it take a black Hole to fully absorb a person from event horizon to center of the earth style? 1 month ago:
Depends on who you ask
- Comment on What do all the subgenres of music mean? How does anyone make sense of them? 1 month ago:
It’s a language so that people can discuss varying levels of nuance with each other. You probably don’t care about the difference between industrial metal and folk metal, but metalheads certainly do. And even that’s a pretty top level example.
Same goes for every other genre/subgenre. Indie pop and bubble pop can be very different, and just because someone likes one doesn’t mean they’ll like the other.
There is also a historic factor in all this because genres are always influenced, derived from, or mixed with other genres. Triphop was born this way, as a mix of hiphop, jazz, dub, electronica, and others
- Comment on How does that craft where you stab a ball of fluff with a needle until it looks like something work? 1 month ago:
Huh I’ve tried felting cat hair before and had zero success. It’s too long, I ended up just burying it in regular felt. Whereas my dog’s hair was super easy to felt into a mini version of her
