- Comment on Anon thinks about human history 11 months ago:
Humans just barely survived during most of our history.
Then a warming of the climate made agriculture possible, which lead to a surplus of food that could be used to feed people who were doing something other than gathering food.
Those people invented writing and that made real technological progress possible for the first time. - Comment on cool phone trick 11 months ago:
Now you get it, right?
- Comment on you have to subscribe to the dictionary now 11 months ago:
what a joke
In the past, you had to buy the book. Or go to the library to read it.
Both of which you can still do. And with a library membership you can access the web version as well. How else do you expect the authors of the dictionary to pay their rent?
- Comment on As if the tip actually goes to the dashers. 11 months ago:
Can only speak for Germany: Tips are kind of expected in sit-down restaurants with wait staff. Not tipping sends the message that you were unsatisfied with the service, a 10% tip will have the waiter thank you enthusiastically, and the normal range is somewhere in between.

- Comment on The way this is spelled out really irks me. 11 months ago:
A Hemi engine has a hemispherical dome, which was a new design that increased efficiency and power output over others, in 1901.
Chrysler popularized the term for their engines in the 1950’s, and the name has a positive image in some circles because Chrysler-built Hemi engines were used in WW2 fighter planes and NASCAR racecars. - Comment on Another great advert from Threads. Not really looking like my kind of place. 11 months ago:
It’s not mundane at all, though.
Saying it implies that it needs to be said, as if in mainstream opinion it was not OK to be white.
It pretends there’s widespread racism against white people. So exactly what far right racists believe.
- Comment on Do Teslas have OBD connectors? 11 months ago:
I hate the word “legacy manufacturers”. As if Teslas were something entirely new or different.
- Comment on Is the 'rise of retail theft' problem in America overblown? 11 months ago:
A reminder not to rat on people failing to make ends meet, when the only damage they cause is a slightly lower profit for a corporation whose CEO lives the private jet lifestyle.
- Comment on What is the average temperature of earth? 11 months ago:
Cauuse ocean temperature varies greatly with depth, and air temperature with altitude.

Chocolate Chili is absolutely delicious.
200 grams of dark chocolate are a good amount for a large 5 liter pot.
Also, one of the best winter beverages is cocoa powder (without sugar) boiled in milk with fresh chili peppers. But don’t use Hershey’s for fucks sake.

- Comment on Why is this so hard 11 months ago:
Crumple it into a ball and straighten it again. Then put it between your flat hands and rub them against each other.
The small wrinkles from crumpling break cohesion between the layers, and the friction from rubbing separates them. - Comment on Has google stopped working for finding anything? 11 months ago:
No, it wasn’t. Still works perfectly for me (even to the point that there are zero results if the exact term simply doesn’t exist.)

Shopping at a greengrocer is a waste of your money.
You need to shop at the Democratgrocer, to prevent a win by the even grocer grocer.
- Comment on YouTube: 5 ads the norm now? 11 months ago:
It’s become unwatchable with ad-block, too.
For me it still works (Germany, Linux+Firefox+ublock), but page loading takes forever, and knowing that that’s intentional just makes me not want to use it anymore. - Comment on YouTube: 5 ads the norm now? 11 months ago:
Zero adds is the norm for me.
Also, zero YouTube. - Comment on If only it was like that 11 months ago:

In middle school, a girl in my class asked me out on a date while all her friends sat in the back and watched, giggling.
I told her to leave me the fuck alone.
During recess, I saw her sitting by herself, crying.
