KISSmyOS@lemmy.world 11 months agoCan only speak for Germany: Tips are kind of expected in sit-down restaurants with wait staff. Not tipping sends the message that you were unsatisfied with the service, a 10% tip will have the waiter thank you enthusiastically, and the normal range is somewhere in between.

I refuse. 18-20% is for outstanding service, not normal service. Personally, I would rather see tipping go away

Where??? I always tip 20% in a restaurant when I have a server. (I don’t usually tip at counter service places because no one is serving me and staff make a higher base wage).
