Neat! I didn’t see that, I’ll give them a read.
It’s like OSHA laws. Every rule for these programs has a great misfortune behind it.
A very succinct way of phrasing it. Cheers for that and for posting the studies.

Hell yeah, thanks a lot for taking the time to spoon food my ignorant butt. Very informative reply, thank you. I guess a reply would be “that can be done without DEI” but then that just circle back to your no one is colourblind remark. If google wasn’t diverse organically without DEI I don’t have much optimism other corporations would be.

I guess I was hoping for something a bit more rigorous but still your reply makes sense. Thanks for the input.
- Comment on Video game publishers are starting to use "anti-DEI" as a marketing meme 1 day ago:
As much as I don’t care for DEI as a guiding “doctrine” for hiring, I also think companies shouldn’t be anti-diversity by law. Like intentionally hiring people because they aren’t white, no (and feels like tokenism/racism) but also intentionally hiring only whites (or the majority race) is a bigger no. Especially if more qualified candidates are being passed over solely because their PoC. Also companies should be inclusive so as to not be shit companies in general? Can someone tell me why my take is dumb or poorly thought out?

Ahh fair enough, it was probably a motorway I was pulled over on.
More ironic punishment as the people I know irl who hate bike riders with fervour are large Ute driving bogans. So the mental image of them losing a license for fucking with people they view as “taking up the road” (despite bike paths) was too hard to pass up. Though you’re right, it’s insufficient for what could be a life endangering injury.
- Comment on Police issue warning after cyclists hit wire strung across Southern Expressway bike path 1 week ago:
Are there not cameras all along these expressways? In Brisbane I was pulled over on a motorway/expressway to report a hazard to whatever 13-xx number it was and the operator was able to locate me in seconds on camera. Should strip the license of any of these chucklefucks when they get caught. I should pull my bike out of storage and start cycling more now I think of it.

Why does this read as passively blaming Australians for modern day California wildfires?? Also fyi (it’s a paragraph or two so I’ll put it in a spoiler) it was and still is a California problem.
Tap for spoiler
The eucalyptus goes to California: Following its spread throughout Europe, northern Africa, India, and South America, settlers in California became increasingly interested in the eucalyptus. Not only was eucalyptus a fascinating novelty, but the California Gold Rush of the late 1840s and early 1850s created high demand for wood for constructing buildings and for fuel. Deforestation had become a serious concern, so much so that the California Tree Culture Act of 1868 was created to encourage people to plant more trees, particularly along roads. Many entrepreneurs rushed to capitalize on the situation. Ellwood Cooper’s role in spreading eucalyptus: Ellwood Cooper, educator, entrepreneur, and one of the key individuals who helped the eucalyptus take off in California, is a local legend here in Santa Barbara

Nah they forget they’re the left of centre party and are handing a win to libs because of it.
- Outlawed vapes
- Legalised vapes again but now you need a prescription and can only buy from pharmacies (gotta wring them tax dollars)
- Snuck in change to TGA to also outlaw dry herbs vapes and schedule cannabis on the same level as morphine
- Have done fuck all about housing or inflation
- During a cost of living crisis, Centrelink (welfare) is still unliveable
- Focused making NDIS more “financially stable”
- Went ahead with a costly referendum that trashed relations with indigenous Australian
- The under 16 ban for social media (while I agree with it) was poorly planned, rushed and handed Libs easy sound bites
Feels like labour is now lib lite, pissing off their own voters as well as lib voters for not doing enough.

Given a non insignificant amount of women migrated to Bluesky because of thinly veiled threats of SA from xitter; meeting strange blokes online probably isn’t high on the “must do” list. Hell even without the xitter shitfight that probably holds.
Even if a guy is just being platonic or speaking in a similar manner to a woman
This probably comes from a life with no shortage of blokes trying to get their foot in the door under the guise of “friendship”.

I don’t see how those statements are incongruent or worthy being particularly funny. Must be a parent thing I guess.

That gives an eternity of time to a mischievous 2yo kid #3 to grab the shiny toy so carelessly dropped without being locked GASP! and then tap not just twice but >100 times.
See my hand wave remark. I may not have kids but am old enough that a few of my mates are starting. I’ll one if he thinks this series of incredibly unlikely events (that ignore lock after time limit, face ID for payment methods, common sense) would work with his child but I suspect the response will be laughter.
Far more likely is people giving these devices to children inappropriately and them figuring this stuff out rather kids “mashing buttons” into purchasing things from Amazon. Do appreciate the classic “yOu MuSt NoT hAvE kIDs” response to literally any form of parental criticism though.

Maybe dad should have a passcode on his phone and banking apps? Literally no one can “get their mitts” on my phone and use it without my consent short of holding a gun to my head. So many of these parents seem to handwave responsibility from fictional scenarios.

I’d argue there’s a lot of similarities, since most people left due to Spez and the IPO. I left when Spez and co fucked over the Apollo app dev.
This excludes the tankie instances. I saw a lot of “death to Israel” and other shit before I filter those instance that would probably have gotten them nuked on reddit. Stuff like that will be the main differences. Here this isn’t any worry about has marketable the platform is too advertisers. Which is mostly a good thing.

- Comment on Why aren't vegan? 2 months ago:
Food or fighting it’s all pleasure That is your opinion and I disagree. I don’t think this country (or most of them) have enough arable land for everyone to convert entirely to meat free and from my understanding. Also, it’s worth pointing that it’s not a simple morality issue either as it would require radically changing the world economy and food distribution. Especially in impoverished nations.
Always with the dog examples huh. I don’t eat them because in the west we view them as social/companion animals. I’m sure if I came from a culture that was different, endured hardships(like starving to death) or even just viewed them differently, maybe I would too.
That obviously can’t be what you mean, as it is not compassionate, kind, or merciful to kill someone when they don’t need to die. What do you mean by it? You know what I mean, without undue suffering or cruelty. You would consider it humane if we killed them at the end of their natural lifespan by that logic.
Unless you have some way to rapidly switch billions of dollar of farming industry to purely plant based industries? Not to mention replacing the jobs/livelihoods of the entire farming sector. I think society is slowly drifting toward eating less meat naturally (although quicker would be better environmentally). I suspect however the a small token market for it will always exist and the less there is, there more likely that it can be done in a humane manner.
Anyway this will be it for me, frankly the continual moving on from what the points I address to ask questions feels pretty sealion-y. Add that to the fact that when I also addressed your examples in relation to feedlotting you say I’m “all over the place”. You also seem to not genuinely want to understand why people eat meat (which should be obvious when you gave your absolutist stance in the op). Then also continually trying to return to dogs for some reason makes it pretty convincing that you aren’t here for the reason stated in the OP and instead are here to attempt change people opinions in a disingenuous, guilt tripping manner. Anyway all the best. I would put it to you that if you don’t want omnis in the vegan comm posing their opinions as questions, interrogating and passively accusing members of that community; you should probably refrain from the same behaviour.
- Comment on Why aren't vegan? 2 months ago:
Yes they do, I don’t think I implied otherwise, my point was the way they live and are killed is different. The reason for doing so is a factor too. E.g. dogs that are killed in illegal dog fighting aren’t eaten after, whales, etc. Cattle in feedlots can be reasonably expected to live humane lives and killed in a humane manner. The same cannot be said for any of the cases that you mentioned. Hence my elaborating on them for the sake of comparison.
I’d be aghast if you were doing so recreationally. If we lived in a culture that ate dogs, probably not, depending on the manner in which they’re raised and killed. This sort of stuff is what I’m referring to feeling like “guilting” as it’s probably not super common for people who eat meat to be fond of boltgunning puppies.
I mean I’m happy to discuss whatever you like; but my participation here is to answer the original question and provide insight as why I eat meat and address common point vegans discuss I.e. the condemning factory farming remark.
- Comment on Why aren't vegan? 2 months ago:
I can see that, more to point out current social norms or “tradition” as you put it. If the majority of people are currently omni and they have not external reason to change; they won’t. Psychosocial factors/status quo might be what I’m appealing to?
Well I’d assert that those cases are not all equal. Cattle in feedlots probably don’t live the same lives dogs that fight each other; often to the death. Whales are important to their ecosystem (and we could fish them into extinction). It’s also just super wasteful to kill whales for oil/food when we have other ways of sourcing those materials. Elephants can practically never be sufficiently well kept by a circus (except a wealthy company maybe) and are incredibly social animals so there’s no way in my mind to keep them in a circus in a humane way.
I think the main problem veganism/vegos face is pr/marketing. For example, I feel like far more people would become meatless for environmental reason rather than comparing “modern” farming to dog fighting. Which feels more like guilting than anything and puts the receiver immediately on the defensive. Factory farming and abusive farming practices in general can get fucked though.
