They do have ways of talking of classified information. Coincidentally, it is more tedious than using Signal and you are forced to keep records of those conversations, things that these people didn’t want.
- Comment on Satire is dead 👌 3 days ago:
That’s what Buttigieg indicated. There are secure means of communicating classified information, with a process for ensuring people with clearance are the only ones allowed to view this information. I imagine those rules are in place exactly for this reason, to prevent accidental leaks.
The rookies that Trump hired probably didn’t see the harm in doing it in this way, I mean come on, Signal is secure so what is there to worry about?
Who knows what else has been leaked to the wrong people accidentally.

Thanks I deleted it. Not certain how that happened.

Would this be good publicity or had publicity for signal? “Even government officials think we’re secure!” Or “Idiots actually think signal is secure for classified information”

- Comment on Realistically, how feasible is it to 100% boycott a massive corporation (such as Amazon) for an extended period of time? 3 weeks ago:
Have you confirmed that no website you provide ad revenue or membership fees to used AWS? If you haven’t checked, then you probably have supported Amazon. Amazon makes most of their money through AWS.
Regardless, good on you for not buying from Amazon directly. I too haven’t purchased from them for years
- Comment on How is my bedroom being heated? 5 weeks ago:
This is certainly helpful. I am in an apartment that I’m certain has no floor heating. I hardly ever have to turn on the heater (gets as low as about 13-15 degrees sometimes). During the warmer days, I have to open my windows or else it gets extremely humid.

There doesn’t have to be reason for it to help, all that matters is that there isnt a sufficient enough of am evolutionary hinderance to prevent reproduction. The octopi reproduced, so their traits pass on.
- Comment on I feel stupid asking this. But cities and countries who have smog and a major amount of air pollution. Why doesn't the wind blow it away or move it overtime? Is there that much pollution? 2 months ago:
Yes winds do blow pollution, especially from a lot of coastal cities. Los Angeles is an exception because of the mountains nearish the coast that essentially disrupt those winds. So most of the year, the smog just accumulates over LA, contributing to its very low quality air. This is despite the fact that LA (and other Western US States) use a cleaner burning blend of gasoline (more expensive as well), has somewhat strict fuel efficiency fuel requirements, and smog checks for vehicles. Other coastal states don’t have the same restrictions yet still have better air quality.

- Comment on How a small but vocal minority of social media users distort reality and sow division 4 months ago:
I agree that a lot of disinformation comes from snd is aimed at the US.
For Lemmy, idk. On one hand, it could also be restricted. I can imagine restrictions being dependent on the size of the website in terms of traffic and posting.
On the other, if there isn’t such a huge impact because of it’s size, then restrictions aren’t necessary.
- Comment on How a small but vocal minority of social media users distort reality and sow division 4 months ago:
For larger website that allow political discussions and reach a lot of people, yes I think verification would help tackle disinformation. Same thing that happens to websites that don’t follow GDPR is what I would imagine.
If you have suggestions for dealing with foreign disinformation, I’m all ears
- Comment on How a small but vocal minority of social media users distort reality and sow division 4 months ago:
What I mean by that is no anonymous posting. A big issue is that you have thousands of bots pushing fake messages. It’s worse with algorithms where the company can control how many people certain messages reach. But places like Lemmy and reddit aren’t immune either. I still remember seeing how crazy reddit went during 2016 elections. All of a sudden a ton of pro Trump people were there. I couldn’t trust a lot of news, pro or against Trump, because there would be false information posted (false anti information I bet also posted by Russian bots for this reason as well.)
As of now, we’re basically allowing Russia, China and Iran to influence our citizens. That’s partially why MAGA has such a an alternate view Trump. They don’t ever hear the bad news about him, or just don’t believe it.

It’s starting to feel more like we shouldn’t allow political ads or discussions online without restrictions. Foreign actors and idiots are too quick to spread misinformation. If people want to get an idea of what others believe in, then go talk with other real people. This feels more like kids learning how to socialize from online games. People are dicks online, and you can interact with people that way in real life

I like this one. I’ve heard Scientist lie or scientist are wrong, but it feels ironic that people still trust them every single day with the products that they consume that were generally thought of from scientists.
- Comment on How the fuck do you meet new people? 7 months ago:
Social events like bars and raves are an option. You’ll find people who just want to get shit faced, but also social people. Volunteer work has a lot of people you can interact with and eventually become friends with. Game places are another option as mentioned. Video games as well. If you have a dog, parks are a way to start conversations and meet people.

Practically useless video. It only showed Ramsey being interviewed and asked about the crash, in which he shows his huge bruise in his ribs. No details of what happened
- Comment on Study finds 1/4 of bosses hoped Return to Office would make staff quit 9 months ago:
I’m sorry but this seems very illogical. You’re saying that, as a company thats fully remote, its easier to get the WHOLE COMPANY back into the office than it is to do the paperwork to remove a handful of bad employees, while risking losing some of your better employees??

What eventually happens to the landlords once they don’t make enough revenue on those office spaces? Foreclosure and the back reposses it? That would show them to sell it to another company for a lower value and drop office prices, right?

Republicans are part of Congress, and control the house. Because they benefit from this law, they have no need to change it. So no Congress won’t be changing it unless at least Democrats have more control of Congress
