Jury selection for a trial like this is a very rigorous process. The prosecution and defense teams have to agree on jurors. They would do their best to find jurors who would rule on the facts of the case and not on the emotions surrounding it.
Why didn't Luigi ManGioni go to trial? Why not get a better deal knowing the prosecution would have to pony up some serious plea bargain?

Because the prosecution has dna, fingerprints, video, manifesto.
