I just meant in the sense that it was in the top 20 games in the US. Of course its the most popular mario kart game at the time, but I had no idea people play it enough to generate a concurrent playerbase that large.
With the general lack of content beyond the initial unlocks/DLC and track packs, I wouldn’t think there was that many people playing essentially becomes a time trial game every day. Then again I play wow now so maybe I do understand.

Yes, but it’s still 90% Mario. There’s a lot of new stuff they could introduce if they bring in not just new characters, but tracks themed on other IPs.

I just got into it again. I played through 7 and put it away. Begrudgingly bought 8 for the kids and decided it was the same game. Started playing with the wife because she was into it suddenly, just in time for the dlc.

But just know they’re not going to make Mario Kart: Amiibo Festival then wait a generation and follow it up by Mario Kart: New Horizons, where they promise you more content, but retract that promise the instant it hits the #1 unique seller for the platform and leave it with less content than Mario Kart 8.
