Considering how much I pay for gas lately, I’d say I live in the part of Europe the US fucked up - also called “the world”.

Shows up at the end of the war: glory pls
PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 1 day ago
shows up from the other side of the world after 6 years of material and monetary support and recovering from a total economic collapse and fighting a completely different war on the other side of the world and then sticking around for 50 years to rebuild everything for free that you destroyed and make sure you didn’t end up as one of Putin’s puppet states today
There are many, many things to criticize the US for, but Roosevelt’s handling of WW2 was without a doubt the country’s most noble time.

Like staying out of it until they had no choice?

I mean, a LOT of young people from the US died to make it happen. Yeah, it was winding down, but people from the US joined up in Canada and Britain and etc to help before the US officially joined. We can recognize their heroic efforts without snark.
What have you done, boot?

Well my Canadian family was in the war years before the Americans ended their isolationist policy and only my grandfather returned. We also declared war on Japan after Pearl Harbour before even the USA did.

What part of the US are you from? The part Europe created by discovering America? Or the part the colonists created by genociding the natives?
Return_of_Chippy@lemmy.world 22 hours ago
Isn’t the former only possible by way of the latter?

I’ve noticed a large German presence on fediverse and I don’t think it’s right to refer to them as “the asses you’ve kicked”.
Every Nazi Soldier is very likely already dead since about 2013, unless some Panzer teenagers lived past 100.
harmbugler@piefed.social 22 hours ago
And if we’re talking Nazis, just who is winning in America right now anyway
beliquititious@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 day ago
Almost all of the remaining WW2 vets are dead. We didn’t do shit, our vets lost their wars.

You did save or kick Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Swizerland or Ireland.
Also on another note do the Yanks think they got nothing out of this that they just happened to become a super power beacuse or god or somthing?
Return_of_Chippy@lemmy.world 22 hours ago
I don’t recognize any of those countries
Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 16 hours ago
Because you took American Geography.
Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 19 hours ago
And I pity you for having to live there. Now go back to work, someone has to earn my money.

The war that was two generations ago? Yeah, I was real good at football in college until I busted my knee, then got hooked on meth, lost half my teeth and my family disowned me.

Sorry to hear about your tough journey.

Considering the other Allied countries did most of the heavy lifting in Europe during WW2…this tracks.
Return_of_Chippy@lemmy.world 3 hours ago
Right, the Americans are the heroes.
radiofreebc@lemmy.world 2 hours ago
No. They just took the spotlight. The Europeans remember who actually liberated them
