The upcoming Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy 14 will add a new Viper class as well as collaborations with Final Fantasy 11 and 16. Additionally, Final Fantasy 14 will be getting an open beta in mid-January or February 2024.
So glad Yoshi-P was able to get Yoshi-P on board with the 16 crossover.
Yet another DPS. And then a caster after this… Why can’t we have some more tanks and healers?
If you’re looking for the real logic behind it, its because the majority of the player base is dps. Every expac has to have a dps as a new class. Otherwise the majority of the player base wont have a new class to play for an expac.
Last expac was healer/dps, one before that tank/dps, and before that dps x2. Its cyclical. So we were “due” for another double dps expac. Obviously the devs and director are free to make whatever decision they want, but this is the logic yoshi/the devs have talked about on their quarterly chats. (To my understanding)
Frankly, gunbreaker should have been a melee casting dps, and samurai should have been a tank. I’ll die on this fucking hill.
Yeah that’s a bit confusing, too. And sure, Endwalker brought a Healer and Shadowbringers brought a Tank, but they both also brought DPS, and now it’s a DPS only expansion making queues worse again. They need to do 1-2 expansions of only adding a tank and a healer.

Cool, I might renew my sub to check out the FFXI content. I still play XI daily so I’d be curious to see what kind of lore they explore in the crossover.
Fyi we won’t get the first wing of the XI ally raid until 7.1 (3ish months after 7.0, so September/October/November 2024) and even then it will only be one third of the total story. Totally fine if you still sub, but you might not get much value out of it until 7.3 with the second wing some time in 2025
Hoping for fun times, but I guess I’m a little worried that the story for this expansion might lose appeal without a good conflict.
It’s very possible to make a well-written, region-localized storyline with lowered stakes than “potential end of all life”, I’m just uncertain how well they’ll do that given what the Warrior of Light has been through.

Man, I want to get back into this game but just don’t have enough free time anymore… Glad I finished Endwalker though. At least that’s given me a bit of closure
