  That’s at best a piece of circumstantial evidence but not enough to diagnose homophobia. People are weird. People say the wrong thing because they are overthinking it. There could be any number of reasons why they reacted the way they reacted and only one of them is homophobia. More data is needed.

  If they are very devout they have probably been taught that homosexuality is a sin. They didn’t know what to say so went with “that’s nice”

  That’s what I would expect anyway.

  My interpretation would be that she has a crush on him and is hoping that converting him would be a way to (innocently) sink her claws in.

  As such, she is nervously laughing off his sexuality because it’s another thing that makes him harder ‘tame’.

  I hate these takes, I’m sorry, downvote me if you want, but I think the comment was shady.

  You know these people and you’re best equipped to know their intent. If you got homophobic vibes based on your experience with them, trust your gut.

  Writing as a gay man (and ex-vangelical), if I was talking about my crush and someone said that to me, I’d take that as shade. Not earth shattering hate or anything to get super mad about, but yeah I’d be like 😒

  One can avoid these situations by avoiding crazy ass “devout” religious folks :)

  How could you think this would be a better way to find out than just asking her what she meant?

  Also, weird as fuck to be throwing yourself in drama like that, but as least your friend will find out your super messy if they haven’t. If they already knew, this is what they signed up for anyways
