  Axolotl Ambystoma mexicanum is listed as Critically Endangered under criteria B2ab(iii,v).

    The endangered status is specifically for wild ones, whose habitats were mostly destroyed.

    There’s a lot in captivity though, which is the silver lining. There’s bound to be enough viable ones that the species won’t die off and can always be reintroduced.

      The problem is we keep destroying those habitats so it’ll take a lot of work before they can be reintroduced in the future.

  My six year old is currently in love with axolotls after discovering them in Minecraft. Now they have an axolotl balloon and costume and a little squishy one and probably some other things I can’t remember.

  Being six, they are also often given to lamentations and mood swings.
