Chinese restaurant; its common round my area for chinese places to put a 1 in the title. Like “No. 1 Chinese Kitchen” which we lovingly call “No One Chinese Kitchen”

I used to live near a restaurant called, IIRC, China 88. Do you think it might have been the 87th sequel?

*Rose’s first taste. If you look closer at the signs.

Cititrends AND New York Trends!? That’s an enviable selection of big-city clothing. Is this the NYC Garment District I’ve read about?

Delhaize is called FOOD LION THERE???
makeshiftreaper@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Americans have a weird quirk with preferring “local” grocery stores but not bothering to look up who actually owns their grocery store. So the majority of “local” chains are just regional Kroger brands or in this case Food Lion is the southern equivalent of Dutch Delhaize

Thanks for explaining, I always find it weird why they rebrand instead of making their name global but I guess it makes sense if the market wants it that way.
Same with takeaway being called grub hub, loved that one when I found out 😂

Look, when Food Lion came to place I lived in the 80s, I didn’t have the ability to just google why that weird looking lion was in the name. But you do. They acquired an American chain called Food Town and later wanted to expand into an area that already had Food Towns. They thought to use the lion to distinguish themselves from the other stores and one of the original founders realized it wouldn’t be too expensive to just change the Town to Lion, so they did.

I know where this is!
toynbee@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I would guess it might be in Intercourse, PA but definitely not in Blue Ball, PA.

Food Lion
Citi Trends
Shoe Show…
Yeah, this has the feel of some bizarro trickle-down generic capitalism alternate universe.

Food Lion is a trademark of Delhaize Group they settled for after conflict with other US stores.
