I do have a subscription but I don’t think it’s got a lot of value. Severance, then we’ll see you next year.

Yeah they were a nice secondary option when they were like $6.99 a month or whatever it was, now they go in the cancel/renew cycle along with everyone else

I don’t have a subscription anymore, but you reminded me that the new Severance is already on The Pirate Bay, thanks for the advice.

Happy cake day

Hey, true! Thanks!
heavyboots@lemmy.ml 4 weeks ago
They made $14 billion in Q4 of 2024… what even does losing 250 million a quarter mean compared to those numbers? I think they need to stay the course and maybe even expand faster, to be perfectly honest.
superkret@feddit.org 4 weeks ago
I make $56k per year.
To me, this would be like paying $4000 per year for something.Contemporarium@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
It would be like losing $25 if you made $140. Still a significant loss and a loss none the less. They seem to have the least appealing shoes out of any subscription service in my opinion
notaviking@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
Actually losing $2.5 but still made $140

I mean, I agree 1 billion is a lot of money, but if they’re trying to really grab viewers and keep them, I think they have to make it a worthy proposition and they started waaaaay behind the other streaming services, who have had a lot longer to collect a worthy back catalogue of content.
They’ve had a number of shockingly good shows too, though. Like if you have missed any of these, you’ve missed out a bit, IMHO.
- Ted Lasso
- Shrinking
- Silo
- Slow Horses
- For All Mankind
- The Morning Show
- Severance

You only lose money if the customer would have paid for it otherwise.

Doesn’t count synergy bonuses. How many more devices do they sell, how many more users do they retain in the ecosystem, from pushing Apple TV?
Especially since, frankly, it’s very good. I much prefer their “quality over quantity” approach and the stuff they are willing to fund.
rottingleaf@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
I dunno, their take on Foundation is most attractive for me via thoughts of what could be done with the same effort and funding and format, except being closer to the source and without glossiness and dizziness.
brucethemoose@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
Yeah I mean I am praising Apple TV here.
Severance, For All Mankind, Silo, they’ve been making lots of sci-fi worth watching. Morning Show was good too.

I like Mythic Quest and Foundation

Too many subscriptions put there.
They basically became cable TV packages from the 90s.
Now I just sail the 7 seas. Fuck these corpos.
Skavau@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
Well you don’t get locked into a streamer like you did cable.
CosmicJoker@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
Right, doesn’t mean it’s good. It’s not. Streaming services used to be awesome now everyone has their own app and just raises prices while canceling everything.
But hey w.e doesn’t effect me. Stremio for the win.

When you look at their catalog, it definitely looks like the executives get to submit the ideas for what shows they make.
One c-level loves band of brothers, so they make masters of the air. Another read the Dust trilogy so we got the Silo show.
silverlose@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
I mean, I like the results. If that’s what they’re doing I guess I’m okay with it 🤷♂️
kandoh@reddthat.com 4 weeks ago
More producers should make shows that way instead of chasing money
