Hi! I messed up my username at signup and its be bothering me a long time now. I would like my username to be SmokeyDope instead of the current Smokeydope.
I don’t believe theres any way to change the username on my side. I can change how it displays locally on Voyager but thats not really the same thing.
Is there anything that can be done about this?
thanks for the reply blaze. It seems changing display name did more than I thought. However on my voyager app and on the URL to my Lemmy page it still shows Smokeydope

Otherwise there is no way to change the username itself, just the display name
Your account name cannot change, but you can make your display name whatever you want. Though various apps/UIs may only show one it the other. My app shows “Smokeydope” as the author of this post, but shows “SmokeyDope” when viewing your profile.
What would happen hypothetically if one were to alter the capitalization in the database? Is activitypub case sensitive or would it be treated the same by other servers?
It appears that Lemmy usernames are case-insensitive. So in theory it should not make a difference.

Smokeydope is your display name. You can change it in your account settings at any time to whatever you want as much as you want. What you can’t change, however, is your username, which is SmokeyDope.
