- Comment on How would you decorate this room? 1 month ago:
Ceiling fan is going and a regular fixture put in instead. This seems like a closet or storage room anyway (there are no windows), no real need for a fan like that in a space like this.
- Comment on How would you decorate this room? 1 month ago:
You will likely hear the fan tear itself apart from outside of the room, such an event is absolutely loud enough to be heard from outside the door, plus the fact that the little bits of fan that are left afterwards will probably continue spinning and likely bumping into the ceiling (if it’s hanging from the wires).
- Comment on Requesting unmoderated communities? 2 months ago:
Weirdly they do seem to allow right wing users, or at least used to at one point because of neutrality, although I think that is weird because I feel like maintaining neutrality is a pretty good reason to exclude them, as they skew neutrality heavily towards their audience while forcing all the normal non-extremist people out.

- Comment on Any plans to refederate with lemmygrad when client side instance blocking will be available? 5 months ago:
The instance blocking feature you speak of only blocks communities, it won’t block users from the instance, it says this right on the change log for 0.19 on join-lemmy.org
Users can now block instances. Similar to community blocks, it means that any posts from communities which are hosted on that instance are hidden. However the block doesn’t affect users from the blocked instance, their posts and comments can still be seen normally in other communities.
So the deep cultural and behavioral problems with these instance aren’t solved by this instance blocking implementation like everyone says, it can’t be considered a replacement for defederation or moderation. I really hope that people, especially Admins realize this before making decisions to refederate, otherwise it could end badly.

Yeah the whole idea of egg culture is very weird and restrictive. It imposes unnatural restrictions on people for how they should act and implies things about them that might not be correct and in many cases aren’t that other person’s bussiness (who are they to judge what gender a person is on the inside when they don’t even really know that person).
- Comment on It's a vibe 5 months ago:
I think mostly it’s the idea that people* who break gender stereotypes (or are thought to break gender stereotypes) are trans, I don’t think it necessarily implies that everyone is trans, I’ve seen people who claim that and act like it but for the most part it’s based on lack of adherence to gender stereotypes.
(*Most of the times this doesn’t include women who dress in a masculine way, tomboys getting egged definitely does happen, but it’s not as common since women dressing masc has been established as a normal thing.)

Probably because they’re comfy.

From what I can tell it’s possible that the OP may have some trauma or at the very least past negative experiences with egg culture. I can neither confirm nor deny this though as I’m not the OP, I am basing it off my own negative experiences with egg culture.
For those not in the know egg culture is the phenomenon around Egg_irl, it’s the idea that people are transgender without knowing it, or are in denial. The problematic part is that it also targets people who are Gender Non-Conforming (GNC) because it heavily utilizes gender stereotypes.
If that is the case they might have a completely valid reason for why they posted it or are vibing with it and are not sharing it because they feel like people are going to call them an egg or harass them again, but they wanted to share it because they thought other people might enjoy it.
Here’s a sample of what Egg culture harassment looks like by the way, just to give an idea for people who haven’t experienced it (count yourselves lucky), fair warning, it’s unpleasant.
Toxic Egg culture, Enbyphobia, probably is harassment.
“I’m saying you’re an Egg because you seem to have an interest in dressing as something other than your AGAB, you’re obviously not Cisgender. People can be either Male or Female and you’re clearly not male, because males don’t enjoy things like that if you keep lying to yourself you’ll never be happy”
I could understand why the op might be a bit more on edge then they otherwise would be if they experienced egging like this.

Sometimes you might want some variety, like you might want to go on vacation to some exotic places.

Animal crossing certainly isn’t the worst one but the limited nature of it quickly becomes apparent since you can’t really ever leave the island (you can visit other islands, but you can’t move there and you also can’t visit the mainland).

Probably finish all of my builds and farms, build a lot of new and awesome builds before eventually begging for help from the other members of the server at least assuming I’m trapped in that world specifically, if I can go to others it might be a bit longer before I try to get help.

I don’t believe in that at all, human lives and the feelings associated with them are finite, the appreciation of art lasts as long as the canvas does which can be hundreds to thousands of years depending on what it is. The feelings they feel as the artist aren’t significant on that time-frame and whatever respect I have for them is irrelevant in that context. I believe in preservation even against the will of creators because it benefits future generations, for the same reason historical knowledge does and their feelings today do not.
People have told me I’d feel different if it was my art but not really (I find that argument incredibly presumptuous and condescending which is why I’m acknowledging them here before anyone has the chance to make them as some kind of comeback), I recognize the value of art and the fact that just like these other artists I won’t be around forever either.

Ironically they’re a cybercriminal’s best friend since if they layer multiple of them together on your site they can annoy online enforcers (and in the case of scrapers, keep out) who might otherwise shut the site down.
They don’t work so well Against targeted attacks but many searches when finding infringing sites are just searches for sites that are infringing.

Most people in my country get cremated, so I don’t really think that’s going to pan out.
- Comment on User flooding instance with (mostly) empty communities 10 months ago:
This is actually a very good point, most people here don’t create communities they just go “oh well that community from Reddit doesn’t exist” so it makes sense to create a community and hand it off to others since people who might otherwise want one aren’t.
Honestly I think it’s a good thing that someone is willing to take the first step and make these communities exist and hand them off to people who has the time and passion to moderate efficiently, because Lemmy does need content if it’s going to succeed. Not just the popular “haha” communities but niche ones as well.
- Comment on Can we please unpin the proprietary off-site/off-network promotion of discord 10 months ago:
I wish you guys would use a Matrix Space for annoucements as a complementary space, that way we wouldn’t have to use a proprietary platform to hear about what’s going on if lemmy.world is down.
- Comment on Can we please unpin the proprietary off-site/off-network promotion of discord 10 months ago:
Uh He never said it has to be self-hosted though, so this already sounds like a strawman argument. Only one who has mentioned self hosting in this thread is you.
People want something that is secure and respects privacy, they could simply use the Matrix channel, or create their own Matrix space specific to lemmy.world , both of these would be better options for the users than to try and get them to use Discord which is a proprietary corporate service that is not only prone to security problems but also has some serious privacy concerns due to being corporate owned.
- Comment on Can we please unpin the proprietary off-site/off-network promotion of discord 10 months ago:
Don’t we already have a Matrix Channel for that? Even if they wanted a lemmy.world specific Space it’s still Far better than proprietary Discord. I mean isn’t it already encouraged to link Matrix for secure messaging, why not just use a Space on Matrix for lemmy.world support and communication.
- Comment on This default wallpaper. 10 months ago:
That’s not great, at least it’s not an LTS release though so it might not be an issue for too long once they come out with the distro upgrade.
Also I’m thankful the immune to this issue being on Pop which has very nice default wallpapers, though I don’t actually use the default wallpapers.
- Comment on Is there a more politically conservative part of the fediverse? 10 months ago:
I thought gab pulled the plug on federation because their goal wasn’t to be federated in the first place, it was just a force themselves on others and be accessible from the Play store.
- Comment on Is there a more politically conservative part of the fediverse? 10 months ago:
Also I wonder if conservatives would be put off lemmy given the political stance of its creators - even though that shouldn’t matter being free and open and not controlled by any one person, you know how people are.
I’ve already seen it happening with people on Reddit (they don’t seem particularly conservative either) claiming that lemmy is “built and run by Tankies”. Many of these people though are/were also scabs so take that as you will.
- Comment on Is there a more politically conservative part of the fediverse? 10 months ago:
I’m just going to say try making an account on the unilem.org instance, from there you’ll be able to access all instances from the fediverse. It’s about as politically balanced as they get since they almost never defederate, it doesn’t have very many communities though so you’ll have to find those on other instances, by the way if a community from another instance doesn’t appear in the one that you’re in, go to the search bar in the communities tab and type
![community name]@[instance domain]
and assuming that you typed it correctly it’ll usually sync it and then you can subscribe to it.Since unilem hasn’t defederated any of the big instances you’ll very likely have access to all communities on Lemmy.
- Comment on Does anyone know why Lemmy.world has been unstable for the past two weeks? 10 months ago:
Didn’t they also say that there were other kinds of attacks being used as well, not just DDoS I may be remembering wrong but I feel like I heard one of the admins say something about a database related attack where they overloaded the database with download requests or something like that.
- Comment on Does anyone know why Lemmy.world has been unstable for the past two weeks? 10 months ago:
It’s been under attack from malicious actors, some DDoS, some database related (they overload the database with download requests). Likely because lemmy.world is one of the largest instances and they figure they can cause the most damage by attacking this one.

As somebody who goes through the extremely hot August summer heat where I live I will tell you that no you don’t get used to the heat if you’re exposed to too much heat you’ll develop heat exhaustion, and if you keep going you’ll get heat stroke which can kill you.
What I’m wondering though is did Washington compost actually say this, or was it just made for the meme? Honestly if they did I would not be surprised in the slightest.
