They don’t actually care about life, they just don’t want women to have control over their bodies.
- Comment on Steam's new disclaimer reminds everyone that you don't actually own your games, GOG moves in for the killshot: Its offline installers 'cannot be taken away from you' 2 months ago:
Many of their games do have native linux versions, and a lot do work under wine or proton, which can be used as a Non-steam game in Steam or even without Steam.
Their launcher doesn’t yet have a native linux version but it’s completely optional, and does still run under wine if you really want it.
- Comment on So, my weirdo Stanley Parable inspired game finally made it to Most Wishlisted Steam Games. And I'm pretty sure a lot of you are to blame... 2 months ago:
It’ll most likely work through proton.

Unfortunately it only happens at certain latitudes above and below the equator, so it can’t really happen just anywhere, just in the few places that are at those latitudes.

🖤🤍💚🤍🖤 - Comment on After 11 years, Xbox One emulators are finally coming to PC - but they're not actually using emulation at all 2 months ago:
Why would they, Xbox uses a version Windows and an x86 core + AMD GPU, bog standard parts, bog standard system, it’s easier to tap into the windows component on an x86 system and just use that to run the games. Making a proper emulator for games that would otherwise run on the PC natively just wouldn’t make sense.
- Comment on Upgrade Lemmy.world to 0.19.5 2 months ago:
github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/4693 is an issue that we might have to run a custom patch for to at least revert this for admins, although that would still harm mod experience then if we only implement an exception for admins
That one is a big one, look at dessalines being dismissive and giving terrible non-solutions (just restore to see removed comments and spam the modlog in the process, great solution buddy). Just give the option for mods and admins to see removed content without doing funny things.
- Comment on Preference 2 months ago:
Tylenol is just the brand, the active ingredient is Acetaminophen.
- Comment on Preference 2 months ago:
I agree, I like the liquid ones better, but I also have the dual ones (ibuprofen and acetaminophen) which I use instead when the pain is too much for ibuprofen alone. I haven’t found gel versions of the dual ones but if I did I would get those instead of the white ones.
- Comment on Preference 2 months ago:
Neither. I either take the gel ones which are green and squishy, or these white ones which are a combination of both ibuprofen and acetaminophen.
- Comment on Preference 2 months ago:
Oh great news, I take both. The ones I take are a combo of Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen.
- Comment on celeb_pics spam 2 months ago:
Maybe, I guess it depends on how much of an issue bot-spam is to them. I mean if lemmit.online was considered an issue to them, they might want to look into this.
- Comment on celeb_pics spam 2 months ago:
They’re making a post here because bot spam is generally considered a problem on Lemmy. Not something that people just don’t like, but actually something that is against the site’s terms of service.
Honestly we really need to stop delegitimizing these concerns and default to telling people to close their eyes because they “don’t wike it 👶” (that’s what encouraging people to block it is) because people bring real problems to the table that need to actually be addressed.
Lemmy isn’t a free speech platform where everything goes and that’s kind of the point. Part of that is that when people or communities step past the threshold of what is acceptable, somebody needs to report it or speak up so that it gets addressed. And that’s what posts like these are.
- Comment on The mod who bypass' the PSN login for God of War Ragnarök got removed on Nexus Mods 2 months ago:
It’s worth mentioning that the mod could stop working with future updates of the game, however.
That’s why it would be good if somebody had the source code, not just a backup of the mod. Available source code will allow somebody else to tweak it or more easily make a better one in case Sony tries to break it.
- Comment on The mod who bypass' the PSN login for God of War Ragnarök got removed on Nexus Mods 2 months ago:
I blame the news outlets for making it public and screaming from the rooftops that they were bypassing it.
We should put our efforts and energy towards fighting back against the companies that do this and not against each other. Pointing fingers at each other doesn’t do anything.
These companies have their own intelligence divisions whose job it is to find out about projects like this. They don’t find out about it from the news they find out about it from their intelligence divisions long before it becomes popular.
If anything projects like this being popular is better for them because it means people like us can copy them and redistribute them faster than they can issue takedowns.
If anything I would say that this mindset is exactly what these companies want, they want these projects to be obscure and copied by very few people so when they issue the takedown, it’s not saved by anybody else. They also would prefer it over the retaliation that some people might do to them, I mean just look at what people are doing to Rockstar right now. They would rather we fight with each other, then fight back against them. They are the enemy and they always have been, the sooner we realize it the better.

I looked around and there do seem to be backups out there, would suggest people download them and reupload them. Same way was done when they tried to go after YouTube-dl.

- Comment on [Answer to yesterday's question] The number of active users on lemmy-join is now back to normal 3 months ago:
Good news is that here they stand a much better chance of being moderated by competent admins, whereas Reddit admins moderate to save face of their website, not because they actually care about the rules or people getting hurt. Most of the assholes I knew of at the beginning of joining Lemmy aren’t here anymore, they were banned, either on their home servers or by a good amount of the others.
- Comment on Video Game Developers Are Leaving The Industry And Doing Something, Anything Else 3 months ago:
True, I guess one could say that in a way they were correct in that it is technically still a dream to work at a company like EA, just a very bad, very hellish dream. Possibly made much worse by the self-gaslighting (and regular gaslighting) making them think it’s actually a good dream, makes it even worse because you don’t try to escape it because you convince yourself and are convinced by others you have it good when in reality, you don’t.
- Comment on Video Game Developers Are Leaving The Industry And Doing Something, Anything Else 3 months ago:
Ah I remember when people would tell me that working in the video game industry is a dream, then those same people would complain to me about working long hours for no extra pay (crunch) to finish a game before the deadline.
Yeah that totally sounds like a dream job, it’s so great you have to sleep in the office and you don’t get paid for that extra work /s

Too bad that my internet policy seems to be interfering with all zip sites. Doesn’t connect even when I change DNS. Though weirdly it does work when I use it with a VPN or Warp (which is also kind of a VPN but not really).
- Comment on How would you decorate this room? 7 months ago:
Ceiling fan is going and a regular fixture put in instead. This seems like a closet or storage room anyway (there are no windows), no real need for a fan like that in a space like this.
- Comment on How would you decorate this room? 7 months ago:
You will likely hear the fan tear itself apart from outside of the room, such an event is absolutely loud enough to be heard from outside the door, plus the fact that the little bits of fan that are left afterwards will probably continue spinning and likely bumping into the ceiling (if it’s hanging from the wires).
- Comment on Requesting unmoderated communities? 8 months ago:
Weirdly they do seem to allow right wing users, or at least used to at one point because of neutrality, although I think that is weird because I feel like maintaining neutrality is a pretty good reason to exclude them, as they skew neutrality heavily towards their audience while forcing all the normal non-extremist people out.

- Comment on Any plans to refederate with lemmygrad when client side instance blocking will be available? 11 months ago:
The instance blocking feature you speak of only blocks communities, it won’t block users from the instance, it says this right on the change log for 0.19 on join-lemmy.org
Users can now block instances. Similar to community blocks, it means that any posts from communities which are hosted on that instance are hidden. However the block doesn’t affect users from the blocked instance, their posts and comments can still be seen normally in other communities.
So the deep cultural and behavioral problems with these instance aren’t solved by this instance blocking implementation like everyone says, it can’t be considered a replacement for defederation or moderation. I really hope that people, especially Admins realize this before making decisions to refederate, otherwise it could end badly.

Yeah the whole idea of egg culture is very weird and restrictive. It imposes unnatural restrictions on people for how they should act and implies things about them that might not be correct and in many cases aren’t that other person’s bussiness (who are they to judge what gender a person is on the inside when they don’t even really know that person).
- Comment on It's a vibe 11 months ago:
I think mostly it’s the idea that people* who break gender stereotypes (or are thought to break gender stereotypes) are trans, I don’t think it necessarily implies that everyone is trans, I’ve seen people who claim that and act like it but for the most part it’s based on lack of adherence to gender stereotypes.
(*Most of the times this doesn’t include women who dress in a masculine way, tomboys getting egged definitely does happen, but it’s not as common since women dressing masc has been established as a normal thing.)
