But then how would the established aristocracy elevate themselves above the common rabble to justify a company position that already has their name on it thanks to nepotism? Surely those poor nepobabies won’t have to compete with The Poors in the future! How unjust!

Good we can get royalties from our gas exports to pay for it

Great idea! But I see the greens have decided to run on more “Pie in the sky” bullshit policies. Dont get me wrong, im not dumping on trying to do the right thing which this arguably is. But its yet another promise thats virtually impossible to deliver on that makes people think twice about voting greens.
Remember that time they were gonna make it so you could swim in the yarra river?
zero_gravitas@aussie.zone 2 months ago
Why is it virtually impossible to deliver on? Higher education has been free in the past, right?
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 2 months ago
it has yeah. But is this something thats going to move the needle for the majority of voters? The only people who care about this are young people, or people with ethics. And hate to say it but thats a lot shorter list than the greens seam to think it is.
They’ve gotta run a realistic platform, secure some more seats and deliver on some stuff. Bit like Trump coming out and saying “we are gonna make warp drive happen”. He knows he cant deliver. We know it too, and nothing in his past makes you think any different. Same deal with the greens here. over promise under deliver doesn’t work in politics.

Dont get me wrong, im not dumping on trying to do the right thing …
That’s exactly what you’re doing.

Agreed. They need to get back to reality if they want to pick up votes at the next election.
Ilandar@aussie.zone 2 months ago
It continues their recent trend of being a party overwhelmingly focused on securing the votes of young people above all else.

@zero_gravitas Back the way Gough wanted it. Next up: Medicare (totally free, no copayments, free tests, but with optical and dental)

“The Greens have said they will wipe $81 billion in student debt — but how will they pay for it?”
Well, how about a single mining company paying even a teeny bit of tax?
Imagine that!
brisk@aussie.zone 2 months ago
This is even worse than when journalists normally ask this question. It’s a debt not a payment.
They will pay for it by finding a $2 coin in the centre console of their government funded car to buy a biro to cross off the line item.

Fuck me, the “rhetorical” question in the lede is answered in the article, buried in the nteenth paragraph.
This is borderline disinformation by the national broadcaster.
