I don’t give two flying shots about how much money a movie bring in…why is this always the main focus for movies. So stupid…it’s just rich people slapping the population with how much greed they have

Deadline is a film industry trade paper, so success metrics like Box Office are of interest to it, especially insofar as those metrics guide the trajectory of industry trends.

Am I the only person suffering from Deadpool fatigue?

I’m suffering from Prognostication Fatigue. It’s Tuesday and they are already predicting a weekend total? What, they have a crystal ball back there?

They have the data on advanced ticket sales - they went up for sale very early and, if my multiplex is anything to go by, the popular screenings have been pretty much sold out for months.
There has been a series if reports since sales opened - it broke the day one record for amsale of tickets to an R-rated film, Fandango says it is steadily selling twice as many tickets for this than any other 2024 film, etc.
Conservative estimates suggest it will easily have the highest domestic opening weekend for an R-rated film (the current highest is the first film on $132m) and some suggest it could hit $200m (which would be the first R-rated movie to do that and only the ninth ever), so it’ll be interesting to see what the numbers look like next week.

Nobody cares about B-list superheroes. That’s the only reason this isn’t flopping. It only took them four years to figure this out.

I fucking love Deadpool but he’s 100% a B-list superheroe
CliveRosfield@lemmy.world 3 months ago
This day and age he’s absolutely an A list. But things like she hulk and moon knight? Not even close.

Also people love Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, or at least we used to. I’m sure some people are tired of the schtick but he does love the character. Hugh Jackman is also a highly respected Wolverine. So I think that’s part of it.

So tired of hearing about deadpool

Anyone thinking Deadpool success means something for Marvel in general, is stupid.

Yeah this feels like a headline written by a Marvel exec’s assistant.

I suppose it might mean something if they learned the lesson to that if you let creatives enthusatic to make a film just get on with it and don’t meddle too much or insist that it becomes just another building block in their franchise. See also: Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.
