Iâve taken the dodgy finger to the doctor. I expect a tetanus injection and antibiotics are in my near future.

Just donât jam dirty things into your finger and youâll be fine. And if you do, donât assume âsheâll be rightâ, because fingers have lots of intricate moving parts that can get messed up.

I got bamboo splinters last week but I did dig them out and then absolutely soaked in savlon for a whole day

Ouch.
Hope it clears up quickly.

Iâm glad youâre getting it checked - finger infections can get nasty very quickly

Dr Google predicts a long stay in hospital followed by amputation. I donât think thatâs likely, but it is one possible outcome if not treated promptly.

I had an infected finger once (donât pick your cuticles, kids), and took a while to go to the dr so it was getting worse. She said that you need to stay on top of them as infection can travel fast in fingers, with not great consequences.
I also know someone who had a partial finger amputation recently, so itâs definitely something to take care of (their situation was nothing like yours, so please donât worry though)

A friendâs brother pricked his finger with a needle threading popcorn onto a string and got a very alarming infection that made his thumb swell up alarmingly. I also know someone else who got a splinter or something near a finger joint and was surprised to have it surgically treated as a full emergency. Itâs definitely not something to take lightly.

Had a nasty infection in one finger once from pruning a rose bush. Including the red streaks up my arm. Ended up having to have the hosepipe penicillin shot in my butt and another tetanus shot in my arm. Could neither sit down nor lift anything for at least 3 days. I think this was actually the start of my needle phobia.

My worst infection was from a coral graze on my leg. I had a lovely biro outline drawn around it to measure the spread of redness, and antibiotic and tetanus shots. I think any pain from those was overshadowed by the badly sunburnt butt I got while snorkelling, which made sitting down a rather painful affair on its own. Queensland holidays are such a delight.
